I came here with a friend because I'd walked by some time ago and noticed this beautiful spot with a lovely decor. On that nice summer early evening, it felt a bit chilly and darker on the inner part of the restaurant than the outer part. Still, I love the design and architecture. We had monkey bread (with chicken wings, potato, and artichoke barigoule), crab, shrimp mandu, and crispy poussin. We weren't blown away by anything, and only the crab was memorable because it's so hard to get fresh pacific crab on the East Coast. The service was well intentioned, and everyone was polite and had personality, but the team was very forgetful. Several times they had to be reminded to bring our drinks. One took 30 minutes to come. This affected our flow of conversation and the experience. It turns out my friend was documenting her culinary experience for New York Magazine. We struggled really hard how to put a positive, or at least neutral spin on this experience but it was hard. All in all, I regret picking this spot for us to meet up, and generally feel we didn't get a good experience. In the write up, she was neutral, but I would not recommend this place. In retrospect, a quick drink at the bar may have been a better deal.

We had a really great night! Service very attentive, food super seasonal and surprising (we took the tasting menu) and the decor is stunning too. From a European perspective we were a bit surprised by the fast pace (hardly any time between the first 4 courses), but we asked them to slow down a bit and they were happy to accommodate.

Piora is a hidden gem. Everything is understated. The food is top notch, and you almost get the feeling that the chef is still striving to make it, and doesn't realize he's arrived. The service is attentive, and unpretentious. It is obvious that the people at the restaurant care about the experience of the diners. Highly recommended.

Very tasty food, but less ambiance than I was hoping for - felt a bit stuffy. Service was attentive, but not very fun. Prices were likely in line with most higher end NYC spots. I really enjoyed our $68 bottle of wine, but wished they had a greater range of price options to choose from.

Piora in New York City is a very stylish and eclectic restaurant that has more than the sum of its parts. Negroni and Perfect Manhattan cocktails set the mood. For the parts, there are a la carte dishes served as HOT and Cold, Mandoo, Pasta and Entrée. Unless one orders the Tasting Menu, you have to navigate through a Q&A session with the waiter on what each category offers and what food pairings go well together and what wine complements each. As a first time diner at Piora, I felt a list of FAQs on the menu would have answered my culinary questions. We started with the Pacific Crab from the Hot and Cold selections. The dish consisted of cucumber, kumquat, Thai basil and wasabi. It tasted salty to my tongue. Next was delicious Pasta called Bucatini, which was Dungeness crab with black garlic, maitake and chili. The Entrée was Wild Mushrooms served with artichokes, sunflower and aged balsamic vinegar. Service was attentive, the dining room stylish in a refined West Village elegance and the bar was designed to draw you into a culinary microcosm shaped by its differences. Together, the dishes were a mishmash of assorted demi amuse-bouche sparklers that delighted the eye and offered promise for more. By meal’s end, the sum of all these parts served a peaceful minimalism to the table.

I found Piora to be as creative, precise and delicious as any of the 6/10 Michelin 2*'s I've been to in NYC. I'm almost angry with myself for not visiting sooner. The entire FOH staff made me feel special (For no good reason other than my being their guest. Priceless.). Cheers, Piora!

This restaurant was punching above it's class. The food was admittedly tasty and we sat nicely (helped that the restaurant was mostly empty). There seemed to be a lot of rules and because one in our group was delayed we had to sit around without food or drink. There was one waitress permitted to take orders and she was often absent for what seemed to be a long time. The food was pretty good, but the portions were tiny and VERY expensive. It just didn't strike me as a restaurant costing well north of $100 per person. The wine list was presumably fine, but there were two bottles at $50 with the sky the limit on the rest. I'd say any annoying, presumptuous place. Too bad, because the food was actually quite good. Won't go back.

Loved our evening at Piora. The service was amiable and professional. Cocktails were superbly done. And the food was inventive and perfectly done. We went ala carte. Highlights were the vegetables, the bucatini with crab and the turbot. One thing that was particularly lovely was the fact that while the food was top quality the atmosphere and vibe is not formal or fussy. Most other restaurants of this caliber tend towards the overdone.

A bit disappointed with overall experience. We had chef tasting menu - 6 courses. 2-3 were great and original, the rest was lackluster. Service started good but we assume our server left during our meal since we never saw her again, didn't get an intro to anyone else, etc. last two plates were sweets -- but drinks were empty and cleared yet no one even offered us a cup of coffee or tea. We ate dessert with our water, paid and left. Our rez was 9:15 and we were done by 11:30 but felt like they wanted us to leave. Having spent $400 for two ppl for dinner with only 2 drinks we felt the service was a bit rude. There were still others eating after we got up to leave. We gave the coat check tix with our paid check and the waiter picked it up like it was a dead bug and gave it back to us. Nice buddy - we just spent $400 on dinner for 2 and you can't even pass the tix to the host for us -- meanwhile there's only 3 other people in front bar/area, not like anyone is that busy. Wasn't worth it. Wouldn't go back.
