Pino Bianco at Turning Stone Ratings and Reviews
Dinner was delicious. The Antipasto was so authentic and delicious! The potatoes roasted in duck fat were the best potatoes we've ever had! The big downside was the drinks. A single malt scotch tasted like it was fermented. We also ordered 2 pomegranate martinis and I don't think they were shaken OR stirred. They were very sweet with no alcohol taste. The waitress left a small glass the she said was a little extra that was made. I took a sip and it tasted like pur vodka. Very disappointed in that. It wasn't too busy for 8pm on a Saturday and the speed of service was just right. Not too fast or too slow. The waitress was adequate. There was nothing to set her apart. She was kind and did her job.
We have eaten here many times. This time I had made a reservation a week in advance even though it was a Wednesday night. I had requested a booth inside and not at the Chef's table.
When we arrived the hostess immediately started taking us to the Chef's table and I told what I had requested. Even though the restaurant was not even 25% occupied she took us to a small table that was just beside where the waiters made their bills, etc. My husband (gentleman that he is) took the seat facing the wall and had to listen to the waiters talk all evening. Although the meal was excellent and the service was good we were not impressed where we were seated. It was not even that the restaurant was booked for it was still only 25% occupied when we left.
Dined there last Saturday night and I had the chicken parm and my wife had veal parm. Both were very good and fairly large portions. Service was excellent. The only down side is the table are so close together you feel you are sharing tables with the people sitting next to you.
Great food, generous portions, friendly and terrific service. Restaurant was noisy with kitchen open to dinning area - authentic for awhile but created a noisy background, only so many times you want to hear what orders are ready in addition to the other yelling back and fore.
This may have been enhanced by the fact we were seated right next to the kitchen and the path were all the kitchen travel occurred. Should have asked for a table away from this once we realized there was going to be all this activity but we had show reservations and were a bit time constrained. We recommend the restaurant but be sure to get a table away from the kitchen unless those activities make if feel more like home for you.
We had reservations for 5 pm. We arrived at 4:55 and there were a lot of open tables. As the very thick accented women was seating us at an indoor (very tight quarters with other guests) I asked if we could have a table for two outside ( we passed 3-4 coming in) I was told in a very stern voice they had a lot of reservations tonight and this was it! I did make the reservations at least 4 weeks in advance. My wife's fish dish was excellent. My veal parm was over cooked and very dry (not good). There seems to be a disconnect between food server and the bar. It took way too long to get a drink. I asked for a chilled glass for my beer and got a room temperature water glass. I have been there several times over the last few years but no more.
We were sat right upon arrival. The tables were odd to sit, felt like we were positioned to stare at the people across from us as we were sitting in a 1/2 round booth. It was very loud. There was a table of very drunk people and they were very boisterous. Food was ok, nothing special. Service was good, we had asked for a bucket of ice to keep our wine in and he never brought it.
Nice ambiance food was very good the only downside was that it took a long time for our food to arrive however the waiter made up for it by constantly apologizing for it and gave all 4 of us a complimentary glas of wine . We were not in any hurry so it was not at all a convenience.
The prices are reasonable for where Pino is located. Nice atmosphere we had a drink at the attached bar before dinner.
It was a very pleasent experience.
Dinner reservations were for 6:00 PM on a Saturday. Very busy however we were seated promptly with a table location that we requested. We were informed that our server would be with us shortly and he was. Reviewed the specials and returned to take our order and wine selection . Excellent wine list. Ciabatta bread and olive oil were quickly brought to the table. Arugula and house salads were very good and came cool and crisp. The Shrimp Puttanesca and the "Signature Scallops"? came piping hot. The Shrimp dish was very good and the Scallops were exceptional! Our table for two was against the wall and next to other similar tables which meant everyone could hear the other's conversation. Luckily we had nice people on both sides. I would opt for one of the booths. They are large but offer more privacy. Your only other option is a table on the floor. A little pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
The atmosphere was very nice. The waitress was knowledgeable and friendly. The main course was disappointing. Salad was exceptional as was the bread but the entre was only fair at best. I had chicken French and my friend had chicken parm and we were both disappointed. The chicken French was bland and the sauce on the parm did not taste authentic but something out of a jar that we could have prepared at home. Neither of us finished our meal. The vegetables that accompanied the meal were very nice.
We tried to make reservation for 5 people for 5:15 only to be told that would not be available until 7:00.
I was able to get it for 4 people(which did work out). AND there were many, many tables empty. So why wouldn't it take a reservation for 5 people when they had the room and if I am not mistaken they were also taking walk-ins?
We showed up 30 minutes early, we were not seated. Asked to go to the bar to wait, but not directed where to go, eventually found it, but it was crowded. The dinner menu seemed to have a lot of seafood, the pasta was good, the wine was also good but pricey. We would go back to Turning Stone, but not only to dine there.
Asked 2 weeks before for a chef table for my daughter's 27th birthday and her 3rd wedding anniversary put in special requests about a chef table ....none available for 45 minutes....so WHY BOTHER USING OPEN TABLE...TOLD MATRI DI WHY DID I EVEN BOTHER MAKING A RESERVATION IN THE FIRST PLACE...HAD A TABLE RIGHT NEXT TO CHILDREN......WAS THE WORST SPECIAL OCCASION EVER AMD WILL NEVER TRUST PINO BIANCO NOR OPEN TABLE AGAIN!!!!! DISASTER
