Although we had a reservation, it took a few minutes to figure out where to seat us, even though there were many open tables. Our server was inattentive. I waited a long time for my cocktail which finally arrived as we finished the appetizers. The food was nothing extraordinary and when it was served it was not very hot. We won’t be returning.
It used to be different. The staffs were all new except the sushi chefs. I might still drop by once in a blue moon. I will stick with sushi not Chinese food there. We sat at the bar area.
Hostess was unprofessional (about to throw something at the bus boy as we walked through the door almost hitting my boyfriend). The food was good, the sushi definitely out shined the actual entrees which were good but not great.
The food was not fully cooked and when we complained, they promised to allow us to reorder, but never came back. The waitress was nasty and, to quote the owner, "arrogant." Will not be returning.
We made reservations via OpenTable for Sunday at 9:45pm (after movie dinner date). When we arrived at the restaurant at 9:45pm, it was closed : (
Advise that restaurants only advertise available reservations when the restaurant is actually open. Otherwise, Ping is a very good restaurant.
Generally Ping is really good. Tonight it fell far short.
Not the fault of the restaurant, but parking was really difficult. We have a nice lunch although I would have enjoyed a few more small plates but the people I was with didn't want to have those. I did, however, buy the two types of buns to share and they were good. I personally had a bento box and was not impressed with the couple pieces of lettuce with my favorite Asian dressing.
Server was nice but was not as attentive to unfilled drink glasses at the table. That could have been because of the number of tables.
We have been going to Ping for years! They had a bit of a lull.. but Bam! They are back!! New chef- additions to the menu and we had the Best sashimi! Keep it up so we can continue to love Ping!
We came here with 9 for a birthday dinner and were so pleased, we returned 2 weeks later for another dinner and it was just as delicious! My father-in-law was so impressed, he'll return any time any of us want. In our opinion, the best Chinese dinner in the area!
The score would have been less. Please talk to your host. She is rude, has an obnoxious attitude, and does not fit your restaurant standards.
The service not the food was not very good, the waiter was unsure if something we ordered off the menu was actually something they served. When we got it, it clearly wasn’t something they wanted to make as it was overly breaded shrimp with salt and pepper on it and was very dry. The sushi we ordered came out after our meals and the the order was wrong after all the waiting. Non of these things were *that* terrible, however, for the amount we paid it was not worth putting up with.
Enjoyed a fun xmas meal with family in from out of town. The cocktails were superb, and the food was delicious! It was a busy night, but we were well attended.
Food was mediocre not real Chinese food not even Americanized Chinese food. Service was outstanding but probably won't be back
Food was OK...nothing special. I have a better take out Chinese place near my house. The dumplings and spring rolls were good though.
Four of us got together to catch up and enjoy a relaxing night around the table. Atmosphere was nice for that. Food was enjoyable!
So I was nursing a beer at the restaurant while waiting for my date to arrive. This lady walks up to me and asks if everything was fine and if I needed anything. I said everything was fine but would prefer a table next to the transparent glass with a view of the street. They were all occupied and she said she would look into it - and she went back to the table she was sitting at with some of her friends (I figured she was someone important at the restaurant). After some time the folks dining at one of window-tables got up to leave. This lady immediately got up from her table and started cleaning up the table, readying it for me - and invited me to occupy the table once cleaned up. We got talking. She introduced herself as Christiana one of the owners of the restaurant (later introduced me t o Charlie, her husband). This is service! She cleaned up the table herself (she could have asked one of her employees to do so) for a customer who she did not know from Adam (my first time to the restaurant). She later chatted with my date when she arrived. What a welcome feeling! Good food and ambiance as well. Recommend folks to have a meal there.
Ping is a dependable local option for well-prepared and attractively-presented Asian cuisine. WIth a pleasant selection of Chinese and Thai dishes it also has good sushi options. The service is efficient and attentive without being invasive. The food quality is a always good to excellent. Prices are reasonable. Parking in Shirlington is plentiful and free in the evening and the area lends itself to an enjoyable after-dinner stroll on the boulevard. It is a good spot for a pre-theater meal.
Service people forget what you ask for...
Amazing food and service we go every time we are in DC.
Great location is Shirlington with horrible Chinese food. Each selection from appetizers through the multiple entrees were either tasteless or over seasoned. Although there were maybe only 6 customers on a Saturday night, the wait staff congregated at the hostess stand and chatted while they braided hair. Time to get a new chef and staff or move on.
Tasty food. Decent beer selection. Good prices. Great service. Lots of sushi options, but also Chinese dishes. Favorites are: beef scallion pancakes, little green chile pork, spring rolls, edamame, spicy tuna roll, avocado roll and veggie lo mein.
The food was good but not hot. The Sake was not good.
Food okay. I had the lunch bento box, it was lacking in flavor. Probably won't go again.
The "Drunken Noodles" were excellent, tasting just like the dish prepared in China.
I had drunken noodle, veggie spring rolls, and egg drop soup. It was awesome! I will be back again.
We ate here with our four children, two older and two younger. The restaurant is definitely not child friendly. The hostess was incredibly rude and glared at our two year old the entire time. We were there before the crowd and it took two hours to get our food. We had to ask for our server 5 different times. The food was definitely overpriced for what we received. We will not be coming back.
Great food and service! Met friends and no complaints. Shrimp Pad Thai was delicious!
Am a repeat customer who really likes this restaurant!
Disappointing limited menu. Went for dim sum on a Sunday & very few items. Went back for 9-item item & 2 of them were sauces and small bowls almost impossible to eat out of.
Very slow, seemed short staffed even though they really weren't that busy. They may want to lighten the amount of hostesses and bring in more wait staff. The food was not much different than what you'd get at a regular Japanese restaurant, don't think it's worth going back. The only nice thing was the ambiance.
Continues to be our go-to place when we're in town. Wednesday night is half price bottles of wine. Excellent food variety and well prepared. Great spot in Shirlington.
A bit disappointing. Was expecting it to be more flavorful. Spring roll was dripping grease. Presentations just ok. Food did not come out hot.
Food was not good at all. Besides that, one of the main dishes arrived while we had barely had time to star the appetizer.
Good before Signature Theatre
I got the Groupon here and normally order crispy beef. It is wonderful but doesn't reheat well, so this time, I decided to try the sushi. I got a salmon roll and a spicy shrimp roll that was fantastic (I had them leave off the masago.) Service was great, and my friend and I really enjoyed our meal! I also ordered the shrimp Vietnamese summer rolls. Yum!
Great food and service. Waiter was friendly and the location was great. Clean, eclectic atmosphere that was very welcoming!
We went there late on Valentine's Day and they must have been exhausted because the service and kitchen were very slow. It took a while for someone to take our order, etc...and they weren't busy then. I'll give them a pass since the food was good. Not the best day of the year to go out for dinner!
Food did not seem fresh
We were sat immediately. Our table was decently sized, and the decor was chic and appropriate with good ambiance set by the dim lighting. The restaurant was not packed but most of the tables were occupied. The atmosphere was overall quiet. The service was cut and dry but exactly what we needed as we had somewhere to be afterwards. Our food came out promptly, our table was cleared efficiently, condiments were brought out quickly when we asked for them, it was perfect for eating and running.
The food: Children's menu was a hit. My son ordered the pork dumplings (a la carte), breaded chicken breast nuggets, and tater tots. That was $11.99 total. Not bad. The tots were good, the chicken nuggets seemed homemade and fresh which was definitely the most impressive part of everyone's meal, and the dumplings were gone in a flash.
The adult menu was mediocre at best. The prices were on the higher side of average but the food was on the lower side of that same scale. We had combination fried rice and general tso shrimp. The rice was luke warm and lacked flavor. The shrimp had a nice presentation and decent in number with 4 small broccoli spears on the side and brown rice. The rice was good. The broccoli was excellent, especially dipped in a little of my son's dumpling sauce, but the shrimp themselves were like eating textured air. No spice is fine but we all shared and agreed that there was zero taste to this dish. I asked for hot sauce and drenched my portion. Some flavor is better than none. At the end the bill was $50 having drank only water.
The check came promptly, no issues with the Groupon (we saved $11), it was as smooth of an exit as possible, which was perfect because we arrived at our next destination with time to spare :).
The verdict: great atmosphere, great service, great children's menu. Our food being flavorless and cold however means checking out reviews for their food before ordering is a must if one is to dine here.
We made a reservation through Open Table and when we arrived the put us a the worst table right in front of the doors on a very cold night. We asked to be move and simply moved ourselves. They slowly cleaned that table for us to sit. Brought out appetizers/soups at the same time as the meal, except they didn't bring anything to one of our group of 4 for at least 10 minutes. He sat there without any food and no I'm sorry for the delay, offer to comp anything on the bill. The waitress asked if we wanted brown or white rice. Everyone ordered brown, but they only brought out white rice. We had to ask that they bring the brown rice instead. One server actually set a meal in front of the 4th person (The one without any food) and he didn't think it was what he ordered and within a couple minutes the same server simply snagged the plate and took it to another table! After yet another wrong meal was brought out they finally brought his meal, with white rice... which he had to request again the brown rice. My wine did not arrive until well into the meal. Potstickers were served cold. All 4 of us simply called it food, not a nice meal. If we were not in a hurry to make a show at the Signature we would have had a talk with the manager. Don't bother going here...
