We were seated and continued to wait for our server but the timely ness of the table visit wasn’t really the issue. I would have to say the service, or more to the point , lack of service.
We ordered water. Which never came. We ordered our drinks 2 DIFFERENT drinks and received two of the same drinks. Then I proceeded to grab the water pitcher myself and pour water for the table myself. After waiting so long and not being attended to we left for another restaurant. It’s too bad because it is a beautiful space. But I feel the service here was not up to the Ws standards. They may explain why there were only two tables seated at 12 pm. Just disappointing especially since it was for my friends birthday.
They made my birthday surprise for my boyfriend a wonderful experience.
Our breakfast experience was much better than the dinner experience we had at Pinea last year. We went to visit a friend who was staying at the W for a few days. Our breakfast order was served promptly and the food and fresh juice were good. During the middle of the meal the server brought over the check even though we were still eating and did not request the check yet. Our friend signed the bill to the hotel room. The server saw him do so, took the bill away, and then returned to the table with the bill portfolio and announces, "this is for my tip". Our friend who was paying for breakfast was going to leave a cash tip on the table. It was quite odd of the server to interrupt our meal twice with the bill and then a request for a tip. Overall we enjoyed our meal.
This place showed up on my short list as a Mediterranean place. It is NOT! It should be corrected. Food was barely average. Disappointing entre (paella, w hardly any vegetables, just squash or zucchini, bland).
Outstanding food and service. The best in DC!
Amazing food and service
We were rushed out because restaurant was closing.
We sat outside for lunch. Service was amazing. They were out of food choices on the limited menu. It was very pricy but good.
I originally booked a regular 7-8pm 1,000pt reservation for Saturday Sep7, however open table automatically changed my date to incorrect date, so they couldn't find my reservation. I went upstairs to terrace bar for cocktail, which was way over priced at $17.50 very small martini. It was too loud and unfriendly toward disabled person in wheelchair so I returned to ask about my reservation again but they couldn't find it, and tried to accommodate me any way. The wine list is OK. I tried three wines and opted for whiskey last minute because myboarty didn't want to come in without street parking being it was unavailable. View from POV terrace of whitehiuse executive offices and monument are OK but not worth the price. Food is good, appetizers good portioned. Thank you for accommodating since wheelchair entrance us under construction still. I hope you guys fix it. I've been to many terrace events much better than this time. I was not very impressed by the DJ as I work with too Chicago house and Berlin techno producers. You should go just for the food and the view. If you like the Washingtonian tourist sites. Outdoor seating is best for july4th however the fireworks only 25min during Obama admin. I will celebrate my bday and anniversary elsewhere. Thanks.
Great weather. Great service. Decent food.
Went for restaurant week, and we were the only table in the restaurant for a lot of the time. Table service was great, but there was no host, we had called the restaurant three times the day before and the day of our reservation and no one ever answered, and some of the staff didn’t know it was restaurant week. The food was fabulous, the portions were large, and the selection for restaurant week was numerous. Pinea didn’t post its restaurant week menu, so we took a chance by going, but it was delightful.
What can I say? It was amazing, everything was just beautiful! John and I lived in Maryland yet work in VA. So driving into DC for dinner is not something we would do on our two-days off. However, I just wanted to do something special, make the night over the top for our night out and I could not have selected a better place! Could not have, it was amazing!
Food and drinks were great, but the service was lacking. It seemed like every server was new and no one knew what was going on. Really weird vibe from the staff.
Fabulous Lunch with a friend. Amazing octopus salad and tuna tartare. Really enjoyed the quality, presentation and taste of the dishes we shared. Great outdoor seating enjoying the buzz of DC going by.
I will be back!
I dined here earlier this week and was surprised at being one of two (maybe three) tables in the place. And even with those few tables, service was still a bit slow. The food was mostly bland, not bad per se, just not strong in the flavor department. Also, we were told that due to the hotel closing for renovations, the staff were all told that they would be without a job for 6 to 8 months and that had brought morale way down. Will see what happens after the renovation - but if nothing changes, I would not return nor would I recommend it.
Great food, service and ambiance. The pasta is made on site and was excellent. To my surprise there was a kids’ menu and one with plenty of selections to boot.
The server was very responsive to my friend's complaint about her drink and offered to remove it from the bill. Everything else was delicious and it was quiet and peaceful despite the dj and happy hour going on outside the restaurant.
ROOF TOP TERRACE MORE FUN BUT NOT FOR KIDS UNDER 21. EXPECT TO PAY A LOT. I OPTED FOR A SIDE DISH AS MY MAIN DISH AND IT WAS STILL TOO MUCH.
We had a reservation for a nice evening to watch the fireworks in downtown DC. We showed up 2 hours early to enjoy some happy hour specials and simply enjoy the evening we had planned. The bartender rudely told us there was no happy hour and that he didn’t care if we stayed or went. So we left to go get drinks elsewhere before our reservation for dinner. Upon returning for our scheduled reservation, we asked to be seated outside on the patio since we planned to have drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts as we awaited the fireworks that would come later in the evening. We were seated outside and then a hostess outside came over and harassed us - asking why we thought we could sit there and asked for our names. We told her our names and that we had a reservation and that this is where we were seated. She rolled her eyes and continued to mouth off as she walked away. From where we were sitting, I could still see her talking to another host as well as servers about us as she was pointing at us and the people she was talking to looked around at us. Mind you, we had already spent a decent amount of money to stay at this hotel, and the least we thought we could do is bring business to their restaurant. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this establishment for dinner, nor the hotel, ever again. The service was sub par, and the food was overpriced. I do not recommend this restaurant or hotel to anyone looking to have a nice weekend in DC.
Was a really nice experience ever !!!
Delicious food and great atmosphere!
I was deeply disappointed in my dining experience at Pinea. It had come recommended by friends. We were the first table to sit for our 5:30 reservation. The waiter approached and stated "Can I take your order!" There was no introduction, welcome. He then preceded to reach across myself and guests as he served us water. The waiter never mentioned any specials or offered food recommendations. Another server brought us bread. When not waiting on us, we could see our server texting on his cellphone. The food was nothing special except for the inflated price tag. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. In fact, I would recommend the waiters go dine at Ocean Prime ( I had eaten there 2 nights before) they understand what it means to provide outstanding service, excellent food and how to be engaging to your customers.
Pinea was most accommodating to multiple changes in the number of people on our reservation. The restaurant is very attractive, the staff are friendly and cheerful, and the food was very good. The value was also excellent! This is a restaurant that will be on my list of places to go when downtown for business or on the mall with guests. Glad we found it!
Just OK. Had to wait for service the entire meal. Nothing was proactive. Meals were fine but no better
Amazing atmosphere but the food stunk :( wish it was better but the linguine tasted like ramen cup of noodles and the red sauce tasted like chef Boyardie. we ordered 2 salad apps, 2 pastas and 1 pork chop dish and it was $170 before tax and tip. I would not reccomend.
Fantastic venue with great atmosphere and modern decor.
Thank you for fulfilling my special request! I always appreciate the extra effort.
Terrific location; terrific food!
Great location! Great Food! Service was impeccable.
Staff were talking to each other and not attentive. Drinks expensive and short or ice filled pours. My dinner was awful.
Service was very slow for the restaurant to be practically empty. In addition, entrees for myself and another person were wrong (they gave us sausage as a side instead of potatoes). When they sent the right entrees out, the server commented that the potatoes were the same price as the sausage, as though we sent it back because we “feared” the sausage side was more expensive. We sent it back because it wasn’t what we ordered, and we don’t eat meat. I was offended. He did show patience with us as we paid the check though, as we had several separate payments. Overall, the food was very good.
Lovely place! fascinating decor! Delicious food! Try the Bucatini Gigante!
The rudest host and bus boy. We had a reservation from Open Table. Then the host said did you just make it. I said yes and she said well I can't seat you even though you made a reservation then she found us a table and put us in the sun. Then when the table next to us in the shade got up and left we asked for that table she said yes. Then we moved and the bus boy came over and told us the table was reserved. Then the server was very rude. Food was overcooked. And dry. Hard to get drink refills.
great food! we went on a slow night for the restaurant. service was great and so was the food.
My husband and I ordered warm olives and chilled octopus salad to start and the lamb porterhouse, crispy duck breast and a side of the barley risotto for our main. After 20 minutes, our appetizers came out. The olives were good quality and very salty. Great starter for anyone ordering wine or beer with their meal. The octopus was also delicious but the portion was on the slightly smaller side. After another 15 minutes, a couple next to us complained and actually went back to their hotel room to wait until the food was ready. My husband and I thought it was slightly odd. We noted that it was nearing 50 minutes from the time we ordered our food. We flagged down the hostess and asked her to check on our meal. She simply told us that the outdoor patio (which is actually a separate eatery) was so busy that the kitchen was delayed. There is something wrong with that response. First of all, we should not have to ask the hostess why our meal was so late. They should have explained and apologized for the delay before we even inquired. Second, if you cannot handle running a kitchen for 3 restaurants, either make another kitchen or consolidate the restaurants. We were patient, thanked her for the explanation and waited. She promised the food would be out shortly. It wasn't. After another 10 minutes, the couple that left returned and sat down. After 5 minutes, their food arrived. How was that possible when we ordered before them? In any case, our food came out after another 10 minutes. The front of the house came to apologize and informed us that he would apply a discount to the meal. I'm glad he did because it would not have been worth the price tag. The total for us would have been $130+. Honestly, I would rather spend that money elsewhere. The risotto was slimy, the porterhouse was tiny and my duck was not crispy. I also asked for it to be medium well, and it came out rare. In total, we waited over an hour and 15 minutes for food that left us wanting.
Pinea was absolutely the worst restaurant I've ever been to. The food was horrible and the service non-existent. There was one waiter for the entire restaurant including bussing the tables. When I spoke with the manager he shrugged his shoulders and said they were short staffed! Then he walked away, never to be seen again. I cannot believe this place is actually open for business, especially at a W Hotel across from the White House.
I will forever tell everyone I know how awful this place was.
I loved it
Changed menu on us Staff were pleasant but had to ask for coffee and water on several occasions. When asked if wanted chips or fries. Said chips. Got fires..ok. But on bill I was charged $6 more than menu stated for the burger. Be transparent!
