Pine Restaurant - Hanover Inn Dartmouth Ratings and Reviews
The food and service were unimpressive. French fries were terrible, soggy and greasy. It's amazing they don't know how to make French fries. Soup was OK but very bland. Main course was also uninspired, very bland, and cold. Cocktails were OK. We went there for a Thanksgiving dinner and were very disappointed. The place was also cold.
We've been to Pine many times. This was our least enjoyable experience.
Staff was very nice as always.
The waitstaff took orders from two tables nearby that were seated after us before our orders were taken. It took about 45 minutes to get our food when it wasn't even that busy.
Even though the waitress was standing 10 feet away from us all night- we had to wait a good while to get our check even though our food was finished and drinks were gone. Had she checked in earlier we would have had dessert and another drink- but we were pushing 1.5hrs and just wanted to get out.
I don't mind waiting for food orders- but waiting and waiting for a check to come effects my experience significantly.
Very nice restaurant with an interesting menu. Food was prepared and presented beautifully and tasted great. Serving sizes are small, with an emphasis on quality over quantity. Price is steep, especially for Hanover NH. Parking is difficult, so leave time to drive around or walk to the restaurant.
Pine was much better overall in the past. In the last three years it has declined in its menu choices and execution during high volume hours. The chef’s attempts at “fusion” dishes is wanting in flavor and content. The portions are small. The appetizer menu is small.
The prices are significant considering what is served.
I met my niece who attends Dartmouth for Sunday brunch. It was chilly outside and my niece was cold so the waiter (Dave) got the hotel manager who brought a lightweight coverlet for her. This was really thoughtful and appreciated. We enjoyed Steak Tartare and Steak frites --both were spectacular! Creme Brûlée was outstanding as well.
It was a wonderful experience !
The food was delicious and beautifully plated. Our server, however, seemed uninterested in taking care of us, and we frequently had to wave him down for basics like bread and utensils. Since our reservation was on the early side, it was hard to attribute the lapses to a full dining room. We were not demanding or expecting special treatment, but he simply was disinterested. Although the meal itself was good, the service pretty much ruined what was to be a special occasion.
This was our third time eating at Pine for my husband and I, but the first time for my mother. Three of our four children were with my in laws for the night, so we wanted to take my mother out to a nice dinner to thank her for all the effort she puts in helping with our kiddos as well.
As always, the food was unique and delicious. We split the Oysters, Deviled eggs, Beef tartar & General Tso octopus. My husband enjoyed the duck, I ate the Spicy Fettuccine and my mother tried the salmon. I love that Pine’s menu is seasonal and always fresh. There were two small issues however, that prevented me from giving Pine 5 stars in all categories.
Service- Our waiter was very kind and funny. At the start of dinner he was very attentive and gave good suggestions, but as the night wore on , it became difficult to grab his attention for things like water refills or to get the check. Granted, we had a late evening reservation and they were closing up as we finished, so it’s possible that he was just tired and distracted with closing.
Food- Don’t get me wrong, 9/10 their food is spot on, and there was nothing wrong with the food per se; however, I have small gripe related to the physical menu itself. The two dishes my mom ordered, the octopus and the salmon, came with “herbs” according to the menu, but I wish the types of herbs were mentioned. Both seemed to contain cilantro and my mom and I are “tasters”. While eating cilantro won’t do us any harm, like an allergy would, it has the potential to ruin a very expensive dish by making it taste like soap. I know it sounds weird, but it’s a thing, I promise. Fortunately, the herbs were mostly garnish so they were easy to remove, but we still wished the menu had be more specific so my mom could have asked for something different or just ordered the same dish without the herbs.
Despite these very small issues, everyone had a wonderful evening. We would most certainly love to go back should a free evening present itself again.
We had difficulty with directions to restaurant and Even after I called for clarification, the hostess cancelled our reservation (we were less than 10 minutes late!). I challenged the cancellation and it was reinstated.
Sunday brunch menu very limited and steak was not properly prepared.
We can always depend upon Pine to deliver a pleasant, relaxed and attentive dining experience. It's a great venue for a meal either before or after Dartmouth cultural events at the adjacent Hopkins Center. Our server, Mary Lou, is a treasure and is outstanding at making for an enjoyable dining experience.
Cocktails are outstanding here. Good food, not amazing - except the salads they were great, well dressed and flavorful. Creative menu but execution falls a little short of the mark. Fun vibe, great location. Have eaten here many times and will be back. Just need a little more attention to the details on the cooking to live up to the creative menu selections.
The food here is extremely interesting and good, but some of the service could use improvement, especially at the hostess desk. Two people were working there when we showed up and checked in, but they forgot about us for several minutes, even though there were almost no other people coming into the restaurant at that time. And after all that, there appeared to be plenty of empty tables.
We enjoyed a return visit to Pine while staying in the Hanover area on vacation. Pine's decor strikes a nice balance of elegant and casual, and the food reflects this balance. We started with the creative cocktail menu, and moved on to sample from every section of food menu. Everything we tried - the "snacks" to the entrees to the dessert (we shared, as we were quite full) - were delicious, well prepared, using local and healthy ingredients in a creative way. Service was pleasant, friendly, and fairly prompt. We will most definitely return when we are in the area again.
Took my wife here for her birthday and to celebrate our recent pregnancy. The truffled deviled egg snack was phenomenal, as was my flank steak. My wife enjoyed her fish, but absolutely devoured the dessert. It was a little noisy inside the restaurant, but it wasn't unpleasantly so and just added to the hip vibe. The service was also excellent. We look forward to coming back for brunch one day soon!
