This is by far one of our favorite restaurants in Montclair. I love that they change their menu according to the season, so you know you are getting the freshest ingredients available. Highly recommend it, the ambiance is really cool and the service is superb.
Group of 6 out to dinner. Everyone enjoyed their meals, some more than others. Overall very good food, great service, lovely ambiance
I rarely review a place unless I have something concrete to share. The ambiance is great, service was good, but I had two issues. A) I saw a mouse running against the wall and when I mentioned it to the waiter he nonchalantly said “ oh yeah it’s cold out once in a while that happens” I say no more about that. B) the main dish arrived and my boyfriend and I had the same dish and for both of us the pasta was super aldente to the point I found it not edibale, to be fair when I mentioned it to the waiter he took it back to cook it more but it was still pretty disappointing!
The service and food have gone downhill. The menu isn't as diverse and creative and theres much more cream dishes then healthy dishes now. Sauces were overdone and service was accommodating but slow.
We loved everything about Pig & Prince, from the setting in the beautifully restored Lackawanna Train Station building to the creative cocktails and cuisine to the friendly, knowledgeable service. These people clearly take great pride in what they do.
App recommendations: Tuna Poke, Sriracha Brussels Sprouts, and house-cured Prosciutto with Burrata, Blood Orange and Hazelnut Brittle. WOW!!
Our entrees were also all outstanding: Pork Bolognese, Filet Mignon [although the presentation was very unusual, so be sure to ask about it], and Pork Osso Bucco so huge that I took a good portion of it home.
The Donut Bread Pudding with Cinnamon Toast Crunch ice cream was as crazy delicious and decadent as it sounds!
Great atmosphere! Ordered the pork porterhouse and was cooked perfectly.
Chef Carrino and crew run a tight operation. Food was fresh and just the right portion, as well as expertly executed. Service was attentive but not intrusive. One of the best ambiance’s without doing to the city. Great job!
The atmosphere, food, and service were impeccable. The tuna poké appetizer with avacado mousse was delicious. My husband got the foiegras, chilled in a turine style, and he was in heaven. The main courses; cauliflower with sage gnocchi and seared tuna were not overly stated and light. To end our meal, I ordered the pumpkin cheesecake with cranberry coulee and my husband ordered the tres foimage. Perfect ending.
Amazing. This place deserves the accolades and press it received constantly. Pork osso bucco was delicious, my brother absolutely couldn't get enough of his pork porterhouse. Doughnut bread pudding with cinnamon toast crunch ice cream was outstanding. I can't wait for the next opportunity to have a meal here.
The food was good, but needs a bit more attention to detail in flavor. The foie gras torchon was under seasoned and lacked depth. Otherwise, what we ate was solid: pheasant risotto, beef tartare, pork bolognese. The cocktail program is strong and the drinks are well balanced: grounds for divorce and Mediterranean mule.
I haven’t been back in a couple years but the menu had drastically shrunk in size.
The food was for the most part bland or not seasoned. The gnocchi was like dry breads crumbs with a bunch of things tossed with it. Not high caliber. Something about the presentation... My friends pheasant rissoto didn't look appetizing. Didn't want to taste it and my cod with black rice could have used more seasoning, even salt. Never go back, except for the drinks. The cocktails were on the money!
The interiors are great and the food was very good!
Truly disappointed in this dining experience. The restaurant has a cool vibe and upon walking in we had high hopes. We chose a bottle of wine from the wine menu and we were read the specials. The waiter came back and told us that the bottle we wanted was not in stock so we picked another bottle. We took our time ordering our appetizers and food and one of us wanted to order one of the two specials presented earlier. We were told that special was no longer available. We waited almost an hour between the appetizers and the main course and when we asked where the food was our waiter said “he’s cooking now for the whole restaurant”. We were confused since isn’t that what is supposed to happen all the time in a restaurant? The chef cooks the food for everyone? Totally bizarre. The food arrived undercooked and tasteless and the bill was not cheap. I would not be returning to this restaurant nor would I recommend it to anyone.
Highly recommend Pig & Prince. I have been there 4 or 5 times and the food gets better each time. The menu changes each season so it's not the same old thing every time. I have head pork, chicken, fish and beef on my visits and every time my meal was prepared to perfection.
I found place to be dark and gloomy, although it had a charm. It was hard to read the menu it was that dark. Food was just ok, presentation was poor for $30 a plate, definitely overpriced, not worth the value. I had Gnocchi and it was just ok, nothing special, it says sage flavour but I didn’t find any of it in my dish, in fact it tastes like Trader’s Joe frozen gnocchi. Disappointed.
I had not been there in years, I had so many restaurants to choose from but did not want to go and gave yo bring my own.
The Waite staff was very cordial, the drinks retro over priced and the food, although only appetizers were not that
Great service, very attentive but not intrusive. The menu is quite original and the flavors were extraordinary. Definitely will go back!
The ambience and quality of food is very good. However, having the caramel pasta special that consisted of 12 stuffed pasta (like ziti) pieces topped with bolognese at $32, I was feeling ripped off. Granted, the server provided the prices of all the specials. It was just that at $32 I had expected more than what amounted to an appetizer-sized portion. I know a bolognese can consist of quite a few ingredients and a long cook, but what amounted to about 1-2 cups of sauce doesn't equate to the price paid. I would be surprised if others having the same dish didn't feel the same disappointment. Perhaps P&P will take note on future items.
I've been to P&P a few times and, really, this was the only negative experience. It won't prevent me from going back. Next time I'll be more prudent and order the burger!
I had ostrich, which is kind of hard-to-find! The cocktail selections were creative and tasty.
Some dishes were excellent and a few were just... weird. Combinations that just didn't belong together as if they were trying too hard to be innovative.
The cocktails, however, were excellent.
Amazing! What a great atmosphere. Food was outstanding.
All dressed up an nowhere to go? Head over to Pig & Prince for a great dining experience. Staff is friendly and helpful. Space is beautiful. Food is fabulous.
The Pig and Prince was recommended by a family member. Unfortunately, it fell far short of our expectations. The food was average. The service was poor. It certainly was not an experience worthy chancing a second attempt.
Lovely spot for an extra special dinner with friends. I had the Icelandic cod, my husband got an entree portion of the pheasant risotto, my daughter had the gnocchi and our friend had the petite filet. We were all very pleased.
Food was flavorful and good. Service was extremely slow with at least 20 minutes between appetizers and main course. Wanted to stay for Desert but the process just seem painstaking long so we went elsewhere.
I did like the bar. It's a great looking building inside. Food was good, but portions are tiny. For $33. for Filet Mignon, if you got 4 ounce total, that was alot. Saw one mushroom on my dish, and something creamy, which could have been mashed potatoes. It tasted delicious, but....
Two of us had dinner here. Even though the restaurant was mostly empty, we were crammed into a tight row of 2-top tables, each about 2 feet apart, next to the bathrooms. It felt claustrophobic and conversation was not private. Removing one or two of those tables would make a huge difference. I had the mushroom appetizer on special, which was fairly flavorless. My friend had the honeynut squash bisque, and liked it. My chicken entre was nice and tender, but a little on the bland side. My friend's burger was ok. I asked for salt (there is none on the tables) and the waiter brought me a tiny salt shaker with a solid clump of salt inside. By the time I realized it, he was gone and it was hard to get his attention again. I ate about half my meal before getting more salt. I don't plan on returning.
My wife and I made the decision to spend our 4th anniversary in Montclair at Pig and Prince, and we were 100% thrilled with this decision. Between the attentiveness of the staff, the handcrafted and original cocktails, and the AMAZING treatment of every ingredient on our plates (Marrow, Rabbit, Arctic Char, Pheasant), I can honestly say that this was an anniversary meal to be remembered. We will ABSOLUTELY be making a return trip.
Very good food and atmosphere! Service was very helpful explaining the menu. Definitely recommend the Brussels sprouts! A bit pricey, but good for a once-in-a while treat!
This was our first visit to Pig and Prince and I'm sure we'll return. We went for drinks and appetizers, but ended up ordering dinner, too. We started out with charcuterie and cheeses and all items were quite delicious. Our martinis were perfectly made. We had the tortellini special and the gnocchi for dinner and both were excellent. I look forward to returning and trying more items on the menu.
A very interesting menu. Well prepared. Chicken Lollipops were tender and juicy although the sauce was a little thick. Mussels were also a little different but clean and succulent. Had the Ostrich and it was cooked perfectly and tender. Vegetables were also perfect. Hanger steak was a bit tough but Pork Chop was one of the bests. Place is cavernous and fairly loud. Lots of fun. Service was friendly and helpful and very very efficient. Definitely would go back
Great from beginning to end. Amazing appetizers, and entrees delicious. Menu was not overwhelming, nice selection and variety. Service was fantastic.
We sat outside next to the chefs garden. It was wonderful. The service couldn’t have been better. Very professional but also so sweet. Everyone had wonderful meals. The arugula salad had a creamy light dressing with beans - delicious. Other people ordered the Salmon Tar Tar which was beautifully presented. The entrees and dessert were splendid as well.
Fabuloso! Brussels sprouts a must, the tequila special cocktail a winner!
The menu is much more abbreviated than last time we dined there.
Welcoming and attentive staff. Clean and comfortable atmosphere with many different seating options. Varied menu but not over whelming. Overall a pleasant dining experience. Respectable craft beer selection (flights available). We enjoyed nicely shucked fresh oysters and other tasty starters. Fish entree special was very good as was sides.
Food is just okay. A bit pricey. The noise level is high. Decent service.
The charcuterie plate was good, although the pork terrine that was part of it was fatty and gamey. The steak I had was underdone and the dipping sauce tasted like an odd version of a sour cream and onion chip dip. The lamb was mostly tasteless and the chickpea side dish was flat. I have had good meals at this restaurant, but this was very pricey for the quality of what was served.
Once again, an amazing experience at Pig & Prince!!
Amazing servers, service, FOOD -- I always recommend!
