About Pietro's Coal Oven Pizza - South Street

Pizza is a family affair for me. My Uncle Angelo arrived in America in the 1930s with a passion for pizza. He worked hard and eventually bought his own pizzeria in Brooklyn. It was there that Uncle Angelo invented a recipe for coal oven pizza. That recipe has been perfected over 60 years and passed down through the generations.

My brothers and cousins in New York know the recipe. Diners at Patsy's, Nick's and Angelo's have enjoyed their pizzas, pastas and salads for years. Here in Philadelphia and New Jersey, you can feast on my Uncle Angelo's secret recipe dishes at our three Pietro's locations: 1714 Walnut Street, 121 South Street in Philadelphia and 140 W. Route 70 in New Jersey.

I hope that you enjoy our classic style pizzas and pasta specialties "alla familia" for many years to come. Buon appetito

Completely average in every way. No need to rush here, but if you do go, the Caesar salad and chicken parmesan are good bets.

We have been before and had a much better experience. Our waitress was very dry and barely spoke to us. Food was not especially well portioned this time around. Better service could have made more enjoyable.

Excellent coal fired pizza! My friend went so far as to say it is the best tomato sauce, and the best mushroom pizza he has ever had!

Food overall was decent. The kids spaghetti and meatballs were overly seasoned with italian seasonings. Didn't try the pizza but want to.

Big fan of Pietros, however note the location in center city has better food. Attention to detail by the staff is much better at the center city location

We were at Pietro's to celebrate a birthday. Angelo was extremely accommodating regarding food selection, and made recommendations that helped us save money. We ordered pizza and arugula salad. Our group loved the pizza, and the salad. The servings were large, and so delicious. Pietro's service was excellent, and made our overall dining experience a pleasure. Everyone is asking about a return visit. Looking forward to another dining experience at Pietro's. Thank you Angelo for your kindness, and food recommendations .

First off, the restaurant canceled my reservation and I didn't receive points. Why? I along with the other (3) had a dreadful dining experience on Mother's Day. It took over 40 minutes for a pizze, few mins. later a pasta dish and a few mins. later Chicken Parm for mt Mom. Hellooooooooo, serve everyone at once especially the mom first. Inexperienced, understaffed lousy excuse for a restaurant

Food is excellent. Maybe the best pizza around, (including NYC). Service was slow and server seemed to be overworked.

We were a party of 8 with reservations for NYE. It was also my birthday. We've been here the last two years and it's been great however, this last time really upset me. It's like they sat us and completely forgot about us. They were serving every other table and skipping us. They took our orders in a rush and we finally got our food an hour later. Our app (fried mozz) came out AFTER our dinners came out. All the while, no one checked in on us to refill drinks or make sure the food was okay.

Icing on the cake, it was my birthday and we weren't offered dessert just given the check in an effort to get us out of there.

I don't know what the issue was but so disappointing. Might have to look elsewhere next time I'm in the area!

This is our go-to place 4 delicious Caesar salad & Pizza. We go there every New Year's Eve before going to a show. Their ingredients are so fresh and good! The prices there are a little high but worth it for the high quality.

Very good consistent food here. We often come after we've been away for a salad and pizza. Good cocktails and wine. They gave my favorite pizza because it's never too greasy.
Also a good place for larger groups. We came to celebrate daughter's birthday with her friends and everyone loved the food. The waitress also remembered it was her birthday and put a candle in her dessert.

Staff was cold, food was not especially great. We went for a special occasion and made it known to the staff and got a reaction back like "yeah so what". It was a major lost opportunity for them as they could have used it to sell, "well on such a big day id recommend this drink and this meal etc".

Our party of 3 was there for lunch. One said the calamari was excellent. The rigatoni in vodka sauce was very good, not exceptional. The calzone was a little salty-granted there was prosciutto in it, but there was too much salt in the whole thing. The option of family style platters is a wonderful option. The waitress was great, very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was lovely, quiet and pleasant. It's a nice hide away in the city and seemed to accommodate all sized-parties. It was easy to make a reservation on line, which was unnecessary, but nice to have. Overall we give it a 4/5--definitely recommend it and sure to return.

HUGE fan of this place. The servers are kind and accommodating, particularly when we eat here with our pizza loving toddler. It's great to have a neighborhood spot with awesome service and good food that's kid friendly without being a "kids" restaurant. We love Pietro's!

our server did not get our order correct. it took 3 trips and more than one person to bring us what we ordered. i asked for steamed vegetables and they definitely had butter or oil on them- I gave up. the pizza did look good and that is the only reason i would suggest the place to others. i don't eat gluten and they do not make a gluten free crust.

THE best Chicken Ceaser Salad I have ever had. It's a little pricey at about $16 but so worth it! The cheese, the dressing, the grilled chicken was perfect and HUGE!
Pizza we shared was great too! crisp and fresh ingredients.

That pizza was excellent. Really liked the crust. Thin crunchy. Just the way we like it. The shared Caesar salad was really good too. We were a group of 7. Service was good. Price reasonable.
