Welcome... In 1989 Pierpoint opened to immediate rave reviews with local reviewers, as well as national reviews from magazines- Zagat, Womans Day, Conde Naste Traveller, Apple Guide, Fodors, New York Times, Chicago Times, and the subject of others. Pierpoint opened with the concept of serving Modern Maryland cusine, at a time when the local cusine restaurants were dwindling, and Chef Nancy Longo wanted to offer a modern more healthy approach to Maryland cusine, as well as create new Maryland classics- such as her Smoked Maryland crab cake now known and shipped Globally. Now into our 21st year, Pierpoint offers unique catering, childrens cooking classes as well as adult classes. And as usual, we are continuing to create NEW classics in Maryland cusine for all to enjoy. I must admit, we were a bit surprised there was no one else dining at 7:30 on a Thursday night, but it was worth trying after all. That being said, it started to get busy at 8:30-9:00 while we were finishing up dinner.
The menu was very creative and everything we tried was really good. The pumpkin pierogies in a gorgonzola cream sauce was the best menu item we had. The bread was excellent and we used some of it to sop up that great gorgonzola cream sauce left over in the pieriogi dish!
We had only two things that we felt needed attention. The restaurant inside smelled of heavy grease, most likely due to not enough ventilation. And they really need to do some upgrading as far as the interior is concerned, it was a bit rough around the edges. The exterior also could use some repairs as far as the windows and exterior of the building itself.
We really liked Pierpoint - new twist on crab cakes, good scotch selection, small and intimate. Our server was a dream. A bit strange to be pointed to our table when we walked in rather than being taken to our table but no biggie. A new place on my fabulous eating places in Fells Point. Highly recommend it.
Five of us headed to Pierpoint for dinner Friday - two for the first time. It did not disappoint! The chef came to our table to visit and shared some wonderful stories. The food was all locally sourced and DELICIOUS! The price for an appetizer, wine and dessert was very, very reasonable
Once we got past the "ambiance" we were glad that we stayed to eat. Needs a decor update, brighter lighting, just a general facelift, as the environment does not do justice to the good food served here.
The crab cake (smoked) was, as promised, delicious, and worth the visit all by itself. My scallops were very nicely done, and the accompanying pasta sides were very tasty, though a bit over sauced. Still, we left somewhat amazed that a tired and unassuming restaurant could serve such good food. Owner/chef was delightful and justifiably proud of her food.
We ordered halibut fish and my husband asked if he could exchange it and the manager/chef started yelling at the waitress. All our appetizers were great. The four of us ordered main course meals as well. Out of 4 appetizers and 4 meals , we asked to exchange one meal that had no flavor and the owner went crazy. She started going on and on about how expensive that fish was. It was an embarrassing and exhausting experience. We will never return. Our server was extremely kind and kept apologizing for the owners behavior
Crab cakes were delicious and I am not a huge crab cake fan.
Felt like our own private dining room, wasn't very busy for a Saturday evening.
Decor is a little tired but a great dinner and prepared by Nancy Longo, not many owners/chefs cook the entrees anymore.
I love Pierpoint and especially Nancy. I haven't been there in a year. I live in north Baltimore, but I just love it when opportunity rises. We went to the FPCT and Pierpoint is so close by. Plus they have parking. We were early and sat at the bar and Nancy poured out the wine. I called another friend who joined us since we had to wait until the official opening at 5 to be seated. My lamb chops were mouthwatering delicious ad OMG the potatoes! One friend had the rockfish which she loved and the other, the braised short ribs with pasta. No trouble scoffing them up. I have to sign up one of these days for the cooking lessons. They also honored my $10 coupon.
It was a rainy night, and we used taxi service to get to the restaurant from the hotel. I had traveled from NJ to Baltimore for the crab cakes as featured in the Coastal Living Magazine.
We arrived to a dark closed restaurant. We were not notified of the closure even though we had reservations. So disappointed.
This is my third time at Pierpoint. We had our book club here after seeing the play at Fells Point Corner Theater. It never disappoints. All seven of us raved about our meals. I got the lamb chops and they were delicious--medium rare. They opened just because we had reserved 7 seats on Open Table. It was Superbowl Sunday. We had a lively discussion of our book and the play over a wonderful dinner. Couldn't ask for more.
saturday night, 6:30, 3 of us. as usual, the food quality was very good, and somehow, the place was not full; this is a good thing for me, because the food comes faster~! well, not that fast, but this ain't McDonald's either.
the server, Annie was great. and the chef (not Nancy but someone who we have seen there in other visits) came to every table to ask how everything was. and the flavors were good, let there be no doubt.
my only complaint, especially considering that the place was essentially empty (only one other table at all times), is that my food was pretty much lukewarm/room temp. i don't appreciate very hot (or cold) food anyway, but it was too cool even for me. my point is of course that everything needs to come out at the same time (it did), and at the appropriate temp (it did not). this did not happen, but it wasn't a disaster, and it won't stop me from coming back, or recommending the place, but it was a little disappointing.
this restaurant is not inexpensive, at all, so having a black cod dish come out room temp, and of course continuing to cool even more while eating, is as I said a disappointment.
We went on New Years Eve for dinner, it was one of the few places left in the city that we were able to get a reservation at. Luckily we were in no hurry. Service altho friendly was extremely slow, and there was no reason- there were only about 3 other tables filled. For a prime location on New year's Eve that speaks volumes. The smoked crab cake appetizer was excellent, but that was about it. The rest of the food, which took probably a full hour after ordering to come out, was marginal, not bad but certainly not great. We will not return.
I was really excited to visit this restaurant after hearing about the smoked crab cakes, but unfortunately that was the only highlight. The ambiance is just terrible; outdated and sad looking. The crab cakes were a delight, but the rest of the menu is horribly overpriced and fell flat. The only other possible highlight was the squash soup, but otherwise, it was disappointing. I could not imaging bringing a date here or coming for a special evening; the restaurant itself is something fit for a restaurant renovation reality show. If the menu had been half the price, I might have given it a bit more leeway. But if you are going to spend $200 on 3 people, it would be better spent at other places in town.
Don't let the outside fool you - we almost walked right past it! It has a cool, neighborhood, hole-in-the-wall vibe to it - excellent and fresh seafood served in some creative ways with great service. The truffle soup was incredible and the traditional crab cakes were very good. I would have loved to see a more robust beer selection, but white selection was solid. Definitely recommend.
I have eaten maybe 6 times at Pierpoint in the last year. I am not a complainer but I'm afraid I find it quite hit and miss, and I am always shocked when the bill comes. For example three of us paid $170 last time and only one person had a glass of house wine. I have no doubt that Nancy is a very skilled chef, but my sense is that she is a little jaded with the business. I like the concept of her menu and it's great that she improvises. But I doubt I will be going back there to risk a mediocre meal at an inflated price. It is time to rethink Pierpoint IMO.
