Pier 701 Ratings and Reviews
WE had a disappointing dinner at Pier 701. The food was mediocre at best. The fish was definitely not fresh and not well flavored. The salad appetizer sounded good on paper but was actually a very bad combination with a weird taste. I would not go back. Because of the cold weather we could not enjoy the view, but it is probably nice to have a drink outside in the warmer weather. The service was good.
The wait staff was pretty good and attentive. The food was not worth the price by any means, it was ok. Also really don't appreciate going to dinner and spending over 100 dollars and being served sauces in plastic to go containers with the lids on them. The restaurant was also extremely loud, made it very hard to talk to the person I was dining with. I would like to note that not even half the restaurant was full while we were there at any given time, and it was still way too loud.
Amazing food! This stellar food is losing out to uninformed, disheveled servers, an ice box of a dining room with zero ambiance, and a surly receptionist who may be better suited for work at a food truck. Wait until summer and dine outdoors overlooking the majestic Hudson. Hopefully, by then, the staff will be replaced with a competent waitstaff.
This was a Friday night choice for Restaurant Week. The food was delicious, the service was great and the band - a bit of a surprise - was great. The setup of the room when we walked in left something to be desired, which is the reason for less than 5 stars.
Ugh! Big disappointment! Our waitress was so nice and her descriptions of the specials made our mouths water. BUT, when the food arrived, it was dry, overcooked (actually looked like last week's leftover...yeah, awful). Plus, no wild fish available...all the meat and foul are from the big industrial, torture manufacturers. Nothing organic or natural. Now, granted, I didn't book our Birthday gathering for it's organics...and I suspect that even those foods would have been badly prepared anyway. DON'T GO to this restaurant! O'Lar and Sidewalk Cafe are far superior! Good things about Pier 701: on the water / the staff is friendly and nice / the buns are crunchy on the outside and warm and moist inside. Sorry, but that's all I can say that's positive. OH...and, despite mentioning it 2X and online reservation notes: they DID NOT bring out a piece of chocolate cake or some dessert for our Honored Birthday Guest. The celebration all in all was a bust.
Bread plates but no bread
Poor layout of restaurant, have to be shown a shortcut near the kitchen to find the bathroom.
Sporadic service at best
Ordered an angus burger with cheese, bacon and fried egg. A store bought pre-made patty with a fried egg eventually came to our table. When we finally got the waitress' attention she brought out three pieces of cold bacon and two pieces of American cheese on a plate and told us that it was the third time that day the burger was made wrong.
Also... they almost force you to use valet parking by walking up to your car and telling you that you can't park in their lot and they're not even nice about it.
Wouldn't recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy.
Wow! The view from the outside dining area is just about perfect. Located on the Hudson just south of the Tappan Zee bridge, this perfect spot is ideal on a warm day. I had lunch with an older friend who was easily able to walk through to the deck where we enjoyed the warm weather, the view and a very good meal. Mussels in wine sauce was a perfect appetizer. I had grilled salmon that was not dry at all. My friend had a steak that she enjoyed, though the vegetables were cold. Could it have been because we ate outside. This is a wonderful place to eat in good weather.
I would only recommend coming here if you want to sit at the bar and just enjoy the view and the atmosphere. Once we sat at a table, the service was non-existent. We sat with no water, no drink refill (we sat down with drinks from the bar), and without even an explanation--we made eye contact with the waitress several times, but she never came over--for 40 minutes. At that point we decided just to leave. When we said we were leaving, they explained they were understaffed, but it wasn't really that busy. We are reasonable people. They could have refilled our drinks, and explained and apologized for the slow service after 10-15 minutes and we would have been fine.
The deck seating was very nice. The waiter was extremely helpful and attentive. However, the food was a disappointment. Not a good value for the price. I ordered a special of salmon wellington over spinach. The spinach was actually arugula and there was very little salmon in the wellington, mostly rice. The waiter was very apologetic and even brought me another piece.
I think this place would be great in the summer for drinks on the deck, but we will not be going back for dinner.
The service is very good and polite. The food is fair. Order roasted chicken with broccoli rabe, which had no taste. My wife’s pasta dish was swimming in chorizo and the pasta was over cooked.
The deck dining is beautiful but we ate inside due to the temperature.
Overall it was a great experience. It was my wife’s birthday. She loves everything about the restaurant: the food, the view, the ambiance. Her two best friends who were there with us that night felt the same way about the Restaurant, except our waiter. He was not attentive at all to our table compared to the way he was with other tables. At first my guests & I thought he was having a bad night from his demeanor which is typical, but when we looked & saw the way he was chatting & laughing with other tables around us; then we realized that it wasn’t a typical bad night. Besides that we love everything about the restaurant. My wife bragged about the food and we will be back.
The dreary day was the only downer on this Sunday early afternoon visit to Per 701. The hostess was friendly, the waiter was attentive and friendly and the French Toast was awesome! Despite the weather, we sat outside under cover and had a wonderful experience.
Looking for a waterfront restaurant. Fit the bill. We decided to share several small plates, Tuna Loin, Oysters, Grilled Octopus, Butternut Squash Raviolis and Tiger Shrimp. All were excellent and spot on. Service was a little spotty given the crowd was not large, but we were not in any hurry so we will give them a pass.
ur male waiter wasn't too attentive, he mentioned that he had eight other tables he was working on. He seemed very flustered and definitely didn't want to be there today. Fortunately for the women waitresses / helpers they made our date a little more smoother. It seemed our bill came out a lot higher then what the price was on the menu, as well as I mentioned to the waiter that my glass was chipped, he didn't really seem to care too much. I'd have to think about it 2 or 3 times before I visit the place again, the view was great though
Went recently for a casual dinner on a warm Sept. evening. Had a quick drink and relaxed before being seated. While the wind was picking up, we could only be seated outside so we endured the conditions. We started with the burrata salad which was delicious. Great, fresh arugula and proscuitto also with roasted chick peas. Quite good. We then shared the lobster pot pie and tortellini and lobster special. The pot pie was mediocre-not as flavorful as we hoped. The tortellini was average-the pasta itself was average and the lobster was a good amount, but overall the dish was just fair. As for service, really didn't see the waitress much nor did she check in during the meal. Anyway, the location is good and the view is great on a clear night. Good for outdoor dining.
Considering they were so busy on an 80-degree Saturday eve in mid-Sept they were very accomodating. Bridal Shower in the afternoon and a Wedding onsite that evening. A lot of activity but didn't seem to effect any of the diners. Grilled Octopus appetizer was very good, dinner was good as well. I love the views, the comfortable ambience and the casual dining.
Stopped in while taking a nice walk on the Piermont Pier.
Their outdoor area is great and it's also very large which is fantastic on a beautiful day because everyone is trying to get a seat outside, so they're more than able to accommodate a lot of guests. There's even a cool little beach area below the outdoor deck, right next to the water. If I lived closer, I'd definitely be coming by during the early evening for happy hour. The place just has a great "shore" vibe to it.
The service was fine. Nothing special or bad about it. Appetizers, which were a salad and clam chowder were really good. Our entrees could have used some sprucing though. I ordered the catch of the day which was pretty low on flavor. My wife ordered the penne in vodka sauce w/ chicken and that was ok.
Price appears to be right in line with what the area is asking.
Overall, nothing spectacular about the meal, but the location is pretty cool. I would probably not return to eat, but like I said before, a visit for happy hour and drinks would certainly get me back here.
