The food was decent and the views were very nice, but the service was slow.
Never a fan of a "holiday" buffet brunch . My father in law wanted to go there for Father's Day so off we went . On a side note , they had had brunch here before ala carte and it was reasonably priced and good .
The buffet : Scrambled eggs that were fine . Bacon that was entirely fat . Salmon that was not fresh . Tilapia that was meh . Skirt steak .....meh . The bill came to about $40 a person without drinks . I live in Manhattan so we are accustomed to steep prices but we also expect to pay for a well prepared meal . This felt like a lazy Father's Day cash grab .
There was a pig roasting in a pit below maybe for lunch or dinner but I'd hate to see what they were charging for that .
Note to self when placing a reservation on a holiday , check to see if they are only serving buffet style.
Pier 701 is a complete disgrace. I took my father for Father’s Day brunch. The staff showed up simaltaneous to the arrival of the guests who arrived for the 11:45am brunch seating. The staff was disorganized, rude, unprofessional and uncaring. I was told upon my booking the reservation that my father and I could sit inside the restaurant. Instead, they took 20 minutes to show us to a table that was wobbly on their deck area near the bar. Our table was bare without a tablecloth as some of the other tables had. We were not served water or approached as we balanced our wobbly table. The guests to the right of us were also complaining. My father and I decided to leave and go somewhere else. I told the hostesses that we are leaving and I asked them to not charge my credit card that I used to hold the reservation due to us not staying for the “brunch” which was not set up yet. One hostess told me that “I’m lucky that we will not charge you because there’s nothing wrong with our restaurant”. I will literally never step foot on that restaurant again. It was supposed to be a special day and there was complete chaos and no professionalism at all. Complete nightmare.
We had a beautiful night for dinner on the patio. The food was better than we had been warned about. We arrived on time but the line for the valet was down the block. I hopped out of the car and headed for the hosted desk (5 mins past our reservation start time) and they told us they wouldn't be able to seat us for awhile as they were still organizing tables and waiting for more staff. The patio was packed and loud but good energy. We found a four person high top table overlooking the water with several RESERVED signs on them. We promptly sat down and flagged down a waitress to take our order. It took 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive and another 25 minutes before our first course arrived. The oysters were great, the grilled octopus appetizer was fantastic! For entrees we were very pleased with PEI mussels, Branzino and the beef special. The margaritas were good.
Was way overcrowded and overwhelmed.
The view is tranquil and beautiful and while the food and service were adequate to good they pale in comparison. Overall, a recommended place to eat particularly in fair weather!
I would recommend drinks here not dinner. We got served frozen bread which we had to send back. Food was ok. Would go back for ambience and drinks only.
My husband and I ate here on Saturday. We have given this place a few chances lately, yet they can’t seem to get it together. The management seems unorganized and the staff; inexperienced. The hostesses, seem to run the show there, accommodating, friendly and the only people who know what they are doing. I think they were even sisters !
Anyway. Several mistakes were encountered starting off with the drinks.. I ordered a mojito which was extremely muddled and unpleasant to drink. But I didn’t complain. Next I ordered a white wine which smelled like vinegar so I couldn’t drink it
After about 40 min, waiting for our shrimp cocktail appetizer, our meal came. AND then our shrimp cocktail. Seems like the waitress forgot or just a back up in the kitchen. After that we never saw her again until finally she wanted to bring us our check after another 40 min. The food was good. The view and atmosphere can’t be beat. The staff needs to get it together.
Had the pancakes a little thick & slightly undercooked
Went here for my 21st Birthday lunch and it was great! This wasn’t my first time here so I knew it was a beautiful spot. Everyone was so nice and sweet! Loved my food very good
Waiter did not go out of the way to please us.
Food was good, atmosphere was great. Service took long however, waited an hour and a half for food to come.
The food was poor quality. The raw clams were not chilled enough
The branzino was dry
Vegetables were over cooked and poor quality.
Very expensive. Very poor quality
Very nice atmosphere. Great service. Good food. Nice portion size.
Lovely day for lunch outside by the water. Salads, ribs, and dessert were all very tasty. Beautiful setting.
We went to this restaurant because of the location. The food was nothing special.
We had burgers, fish and french toast... I wouldn't go for the food.
If the weather was nice, it would be great to go and sit out by the Hudson. Just don't get a bloody mary!
We love going here and always enjoy it, back in November the service was impeccable, this past Saturday our waitress was horrible, would pass by our table over and over, my glass had been empty for about 20 min and not once she bothered stopping, until we had to stop her and ask for a drink...she was very unprofessional, food was good and atmosphere is always great, I just hope she gets either re trained or replaced!
Spacious outdoor seating section and a notable improvement in quality of food since our initial visit.
Normally we enjoy pier 701. Unfortunately we had an extremely disappointing experience on Friday night. We knew it would be busy but our waitress forgot to put one of our entrees in and never came back to check until it was too late. Then too many excuses and then it took seeing the manager to finally pay the bill. An extremely poorly managed night that ruined the evening for us
Valet was a mess, backed up into street and causing traffic jam when we arrived and when we departed. A neighbor was actually taking pictures to file a complaint.
Service non existent, when we were waiting for our car, a couple told us they were waiting over an hour for their order so they just left. I had been considering having my husband’s 50th Birthday here, but after this experience would never. This is my 2nd time here and service was poor on my first visit, but love the deck and wanted to give them another chance.
Wonderful! Very romantic setting in the evening. Speedy service. Excellent food. Can get a little chilly this time of year but they have blankets! And heating lamps! Still it wouldn’t hurt to have a sweater and a scarf. Otherwise—lovely. Can’t wait to go back!
I would not go back- especially for a special occasion. Food was horrible and service even worse. It was also very expensive. Would have a bbq next time for Mother's Day. Their deck is the main draw and it was raining that day. Also- our sauces came in plastic fast food containers. Not classy.
We dined here for Mother's Day, overall the dinner was good. They attempted to seat us outside on a 50 degree weather in the rain but accommodated us inside when we objected. It was a pre-fixe menu with a good range of choices. My only complaint is that for $45/per person- you wouldn't expect clear plastic containers on your plate to hold the sauces. It was a huge turn off, and the restaurant wasn't even packed. Bartender made good drinks and valet was friendly.
I loved the place in the past went there for Mothers Day and it was a big mistake over priced food that was already prepared I get the whole prefixed but the least you can do is cook fresh 30min family looked at each other no bread apps cam out cold still no bread main course comes out while apps where still being worked the feeling of being rushed awful. 4 tables sat down around us they got bread in 2 minutes mind you same waitress never once noticed we didn't get bread. Dessert comes and no coffee all alacart. Best bet don't go for a holiday you if you want to sit outside enjoy a beer on a weekend great spot. To bad my wife and mom had a terrible mothers day not the way to spend a special day.
The place was overwhelmed by the weather, not enough space heaters to let the terrace open on a cold and rainy day. Prix fixe menu was a little bit overpriced, especially for children. Did not appreciate to see tip added automatically added to my bill.
seafood tasted like nothing, calamari, octopus, muscle were all over cooked and The clams tasted like water. The bathrooms were so filthy as well.
Great night out. Perfect weather. We (4 adults) ordered many small plates. Everyooooone of them was super.
The Place it’s very nice; appetizer was great. Unfortunately the e main course was not good. Pasta very hard, the lobster roll left a lot to desire.
Awesome food the wait staff is incredible so missing out on the border under the awning just an all-around really relaxing dinner
I LOVE PIER 701!!!!!
A wonderful experience every time we go there, WHICH IS A LOT!!!
We were greeted by Lora as soon as we entered the reservation area!! Lora is the most amazing woman in Pier!!! She is so helpful and accommodating!!! She is a wonderful asset to this restaurant.
Dennis, the owner, stopped by and welcomed us. Pete also came by and made us our favorite drinks, something he does WONDERFULLY!!!
All in all, we ALWAYS know that we will have a great time here!!!
For my sons 17th birthday and it was wonderful. The weather was perfect which added to the experience since we sat outside overlooking the Hudson River. The food was wonderful. I had the branzino, my daughter had the Mahi mahi and my son had the seafood risotto. Everyone was so pleased. A bit pricey so we won’t be back too soon but we’ll be back for a special occasion for sure!
Unfortunately I was not able to attend at the last minute but my 7 friends did. And, as I have eaten at Pier 701 several times I can attest to their reviews.
They came late on a Sunday night from a performance in Nyack (some of them were the performers) and the kitchen closes at 9pm. so they chose "small plates" Everyone enjoyed what they had. One friend, who really stays away from fried food had the deep-fried shrimp. " I didn't even burp once!" was what she told me. And that, for our age group, is a compliment to the chef!!!
We love to drive up to Piermont from Edgewater NJ to shop, walk and eat. Just a change from our own riverview. We always enjoy Pier 701. Especially when we can eat outside.
We have also had birthday parties there.
The inside looks like it needs to be redone. It’s definitely a casual place. I was expecting a nice looking place on inside. The band took up half the room and couldn’t have a conversation. Outside seemed like a great place to hang out by the water though (again casual nothing fancy). That said food price was too high for what you received.
Maybe because it rained and they had to squeeze everyone insuide? But we could not hear ourselves speaking to each other because of the noise level of everyone screaming to talk to each other. We were sitting in what we thought would be a quiet corner. The band was in the other room and we could not even hear them. The food: both fish plates were teeny; the vegetables looked like they were from a frozen supermarket bag; and the chicken was tastless. Our waitress was too busy and ignored our requests for water and more bread. We got the water from another waitress. The valet was no where to be seen when we wanted to leave and we had to go find him in back.
Our waiter and waitress were excellent! The outdoor bar on the other hand needs to be re-trained, we were there on Saturday evening and it was not even that crowded by the time we got there. Took forever to get a drink and then when our table was ready my husband stood there about 15 minutes waiting to get his credit card back (never got it) we had to ask our waiter to get it. about 2/3 of the dining room had no drinks.... they need to get it together at the bar... Food was delicious though, would go back if they get more organized.
Although we had reserved an inside table over OpenTable, the hostess said they had only two waiters and were seating customers outside. It was chilly; the hostess offered blankets. She did offer us a table inside, but having warned us that they were short-staffed, we figured that if we sat inside, it would take forever. As we left, we noticed that there were people eating inside. The food was mediocre. The waiter was good and personable. Since there are so many good restaurants in the area - in Piermont, in particular - there's no reason for us to return to Pier 701
Food is awesome. Must try the Spanish Octupus grilled ! I've only eaten here in the winter but looking forward to being on the tiki bar in the warm weather - great views of the Hudson River.
Very disappointing experience at 701. They seated our party outside on a night where it was in the 40’s, and wouldn’t seat us inside even though we made a reservation. Needless to say the entire night was ruined because we were freezing. The menu was limited and the food bland and the wine overpriced.
Go there for the view & drinks, the food is nothing spectacular.
