Pier 701 Ratings and Reviews
The food, service and location are very good. we had a nice meal and our waitress was very thoughtful and detail oriented, especially around making our 5 year old happy. we had a wonderful experience, until . . . .
The issue we had was with the valet service. They are a hot mess and ruined our experience. We gave our ticket to get our car, and they could not find our key anywhere. They found the car, and it was locked, but the key had simply vanished. We waited and waited, while they helped all the customers around us and basically ignored us. Throughout most of this exchange, one of the valets was taking a personal call and was very distracted while he was taking tickets and parking and retrieving cars. When no progress was made, we ourselves started searching through the key cabinet and on the ground to locate the key. After almost 15 minutes and us getting increasingly angry over the situation and the fact that we were being ignored, one of the attendants finally found our key in another car that he just retrieved for another patron. Can you imagine if he hadn't found it and that other patron had driven home with our car key? The whole situation was unacceptable. Valet should not be taking personal phone calls while doing their job and their lack of attention was appalling. If I can't self-park the next time I visit Pier 701, I will not stay for a meal.
We had very pleasant dinner at Pier 701 recently. The tables on the water are great, especially at sundown. We ordered different kinds of oysters and they were delicious. The choices of main dishes were steaks - one turned out a bit overcooked. Overall, very good experience, drinks were good too.
Went to dinner on Sunday night. Had a 7 pm reservation for six people. They ran out of Guiness beer. I ordered the ribs but was later told they ran out of ribs. I then ordered the pasta special along with two others of our group. Special arrived with tomato sauce instead of Alfredo sauce. They ran out of alfrado sauce. Took the dishes back and made us Alfredo sauce. Sauce was horrible and shrimp was left out incorrectly. Another one in our party ordered the pasta premevara. Dish was delivered with wrong ingredients. Dish taken back and corrected. Manager blamed the waitress and waitress blamed the Kitchen. Manager should of taken responsibility and ensure all was made right. To top it off the valay parking was not careful and my ticket was not assigned to my car. Luckily it was fixed quickly when I informed them that the car delivered was not my car. My family eats out dinner often (3 times per week). This was Cleary the worst experience we ever had. This restaurant is suppose to be high end. To be fair we have had lunch at Pier 701 numerous times and never had any issues.
We went for the Tropical Thursday Beach Bash, it was great! There was an entire roasted pig that was cut to order, a seafood bar (everything tasted as though it had just been caught), a salad bar, starch sides, biscuits as well as a small yet nice selection of desserts. It was a beautiful evening to be on the deck, the service was very good, oh & did I mention that drinks (not well liquor!) were included in the price.
It was a fun night, with great food, drinks, service & ambiance, all for just $55 - wow!
The food here is very average-considering the beauty of the view and the fairly pleasant ambiance and al fresco dining (and that the restaurant is in the heart of classy Piermont, NY), you'd think they could find a chef who actually cared about the quality of the food. A good chef and decent menu could make this place amazing. Nope. I guess they're making enough money that actually taking the time and effort to prepare fresh, good quality food and menus just ain't worth it. And-oh yeah-they'll try to charge you $8 per bowl of ice cream for 7 children, when the menu says $3. Then they'll argue that they gave you two scoops per bowl, even though you didn't ask for two scoops. You'll tell them you would never have ordered $8 bowls of ice cream for 7 children (who were all under the age of 8), and the manager will insist that the charge is correct, and you'll roll your eyes and say, "I'm not paying $56 because you decided to serve 7 kids $8 bowls of ice cream instead of the $3 bowls on the kids' menu that I ordered," and then they'll finally take the extra charges off your bill-after two tries. (You'll need to double check, because they won't remove the charge fully the first time.) Moral of the story? Only go if a) your parents are in from out-of-town and the weather is nice and don't know fine dining if it hit them in the head, and b) if you do go, check your bill (and order French fries or something-those are ok.).
Great outdoor pier setting casual summer digs, service can definitely use some help. Waited at least 15 mins after being seated to be acknowledged waiter was abrupt and was not that busy to have that edge. It was only 245p didn't have both chicken options on the menu.
Would return for the deck, short drive from home( fort lee) would be nice if staff was a bit more friendlier.
First off the view is beautiful! Perfect summer evening get togethers are a good fit for this place. However, the service was TERRIBLE! Our server came to ask us if we wanted drinks right when we sat and we asked him to come back in 5 minutes until the rest of our party came. He did come back.... about 15 minutes after we asked for him to. The food was not great at all. We had the half seafood tower and had about 5 clam shells without the clam. The cocktail shrimp had a weird after taste too. Then came our entrees... half cold and missing our side dish. When we asked for our server to please bring it, he never did but for sure charged us for it. Now for our server Chris R... talk about someone hating their job. No personality, no smile, no hello, nothing. Basically there by force, as it seemed. Anyway, the dessert was good. But the entire meal cost wayyy to much for the amount of the serving and the quality. The ambience all in all was great and thats about it! Will probably come back for summer evening drinks but will also be looking for another spot.
The weather was not good on the day we went to Pier 701 so the staff was caught off guard. The food was very good but a bit pricey for the portion sizes but I would go there again. Service was not great. We asked for another round of drinks at the end of our meal and they never brought them, just the check so we went outside to the bar since it had stopped raining and ordered a drink. The bartender was rude, just rude. Took my drink order and then went off and helped several other people?? Two other bartenders asked if they could help me and when I said I had ordered they did not follow up even though they could see she was helping others and they were not helping anyone. It was weird and when they could see my confusion, they all became rude. She came over and slammed my drinks on the bar and walked away, not taking my payment so I had to ask one of the other bartenders if I could pay so I could go join my friends. She charged me more at the bar for the same drink I had inside. That whole unnecessary encounter left me feeling kind of iffy about Pier 701. Not sure that I would rush back.
This is a place that we go to in nice weather to gaze out over the Hudson River and the Tappan Zee Bridge. Not only do they have a great big deck and bar area, but there is beach front seating. The added bonus is that the food is great and so are the cocktails. Seafood, salads, small plates or entrees. The service is always reliable and friendly. You can't go wrong!
The only thing this restaurant has is a beautiful view and outdoor seating on the water. Unfortunately the food leaves much to be desired, service is less than average. This is not a place for foodies but a great place if you want to sit outdoors on the water. Beautiful view, worth going to at least once. Not bad for lunch though.
They had wedding inside which had us sitting outside by open air bar. That contributed to noise level but was nice evening so not much of a problem. Food took long time to be prepared and waiter was non-existent. Waiter never returned when food was brought out by server so when we ordered another round of drinks, they never came. We had finished meal by the time the waiter came to check. He apologized but should have offered either comp drinks or dessert. Also portions VERY small for price and men at table left hungry. My husband got 4 Scallops on a dinner "special". Portions OK for women/children but prices very high and food was tasty but not great value for price.
Horrible on many levels...this place was reserved on open table with no notice that they were only serving a buffet for Fathers Day. I spoke with them as they required a credit card to get the reservation and they did not warn us. We requested an indoor table as they also have an outdoor deck overlooking the Hudson River. When we arrived, all were forced to sit outdoors to access a poorly made and poorly serviced buffet...think cafeteria quality except hot food was cold and cold food was not cold. Could go on and on about how bad it was but not worth the trouble. I own an event business and I would fire my managers if they EVER did such a poor job for a client...enough said.
When making the reservation for Fathers Day they did not indicate they were changing the menu to a buffet. If we had known we wouldn't have gone. The price was very high and they tacked on a 20% gratuity even though we did all the serving. The view was gorgeous but a very expensive, unsatisfying experience
