Pier 29 Waterfront Restaurant
The "Piers" extensive menu has something for everyone using the freshest ingredients. There's Angus Prime Rib, steaks, seafood, chicken, pasta, lamb shanks, juicy hamburgers, pork chops, sandwiches, salads, fresh oysters, our own famous clam chowder and much much more! There's even a separate menu just for the kids too!
Nice location. Expected more from other reviews. Short on staff nothing special as expected. Will not return.
Several years ago I remembered how good the chicken fried steak tasted. I ordered this again and was so disappointed. The gravy tasted like it was made with margarine...
Otherwise, the restaurant is clean and the wait staff friendly. Other members of our party ordered fried chicken and thought it was good. Just do something to improve your chicken fried steak gravy...use butter instead of margarine?
The food is very good, with an extensive menu, the service is always excellent, and prices are moderate. The setting by the marina is pleasant. The view of San Francisco from the front of the restaurant is one of the best. Parking is easy.
Enjoy this restaurant very much. Good is good and service is excellent. Will definitely recommend.
A friend from out of town was visiting.
It was great as always, however, they did not receive my Open Table Reservation. It was not a problem, since they had tables available. Thanks
Relaxing view of the harbor. Our server thoughly knew the menu and she was delightful.
My wife had the sole with shrimp and crab and I had salmon. Both great. Nice spring salad also.
Definitely will be back.
Food was very good. Service could have been better. One salad had some brown lettuce but everything else was great. Thank you
Eggs Benedict had hard yoke.
All food average.
Nice staff, great biew
We have eaten at Pier 29 many times. It has a great view and very extensive menu. The Teriaki Pork Loin is excellent.
Bar service for Oysters and a drink before dinner was great. Service at dinner was poor at best, I am assuming not enough servers. Ordered the steamed clams (house specialty). The flavor was terrible, and the clams rubbery. I ate one and put them aside, 15 min later the waiter came back to the table. I told him about the clams, he said ok and cleared the table and dropped off the bill. What a joke. Great business model. I am guessing no one other than the waiter knows, or knew I was unhappy.
Servers were very nice. I tried sand dabs for the first time (would not recommend). It was a really beautiful place and after the sun sets the view of the bay is amazing. I would highly recommend this place for those that love seafood as everyone (other than myself) loved their meals, and from the taste they shared I understood why.
Went on a Sunday night and it was not at all crowded. Excellent service.
Service was so slow it was remarkable. Food was alright but not a knockout. I guess I just expected too much from such a pretty location.
Based on the descriptions on OpenTable, we had anticipated a more upscale environment and cuisine. It turned out to be a nice family-level restaurant that caters to locals and boasts great views of the Marina. The menu is expansive and provides a wide range of items. It is not a fine-dining destination
: our entrees were rather ordinary, but everyone we saw there seemed to be enjoying their food and experience.
It was a wonderful experience for taking both my Mother and Granddaughter out for a Girls Night Out. Thank you
I have been wanting to come here for a while since the view and location look ideal. I also love looking for brunch places on the island that take reservations. Well now I know why they do, because it's super empty. We went for Saturday brunch and sat outside. The best part about the restaurant is it's location on the Pier. That's where it ends. The food was bad (we ordered omelets, scramble and chicken fried steak), it was dry and super plain. The service was subpar. They were either understaffed (if I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt) or just super slow. My meal came out wrong, but since we had already waited so long, I had to keep it because we had to leave for another appointment. When the check came I asked if he would take off my drink least since my meal was not what I ordered, and he did. We will not be back unless they have a new chef or menu, which is a shame because sitting outside looking at the pier was very lovely.
food are great plenty of parking awesome view. service was good very attentive
We were excited to try the restaurant. But from the moment we stepped in we were disappointed. They were not busy even though it was a weekend eve, yet it took several minutes before anyone acknowledged us and even longer to get seated although there were tables open. The gentleman who sat us, owner maybe?, didn’t even provide us with menus to peruse, but himself sat down at a table near us to chat with other customers. A full 20 minutes later a young man with a sour expression and who also didn’t speak to us, came with water with scant ice, and a very small portion of fairly bland bread with nearly frozen butter packs. We finally went back to the front and got our own menus! Our waitress was scampering all over the floor and I believe she may have been the only one for the entire restaurant as we saw no one else taking care of the diners and no one helping her. Once she was finally able to get to us, nearly 45 minutes in restaurant at this time, she was extremely sweet and caring and was indeed the only pleasant aspect of the entire night. Our drink order was taken and then delivered. The mojito was full of chopped mint vs a sprig of muddled mint and was undrinkable. Appetizers were good but not at value. The bay shrimp are bought frozen then thawed! The clam chowder was tasty but the first round had hair in it and none of the bowls had even one piece of clam! I ordered the prime rib, which is the main reason we came, rare and the fattier the better. What I got was obviously a piece of meat that had been pre cut then warmed at some point. It arrived to me cold, grayish pink and juiceless. A proper slab of prime rib should be warm, cooked around the perimeter, red in the center and gushing juices. Such a disappointment. A $30 cut of meat that was barely fit to eat. They served a cream horseradish sauce vs real horseradish that was bland and old. Throughout the two hour plus stay our waitress remained a true delight and will be the only reason I would ever return.
Food server was efficient but was rushing around, restaurant looked short handed and hat evening. Table behind us waited at least ten minutes for menus and left.
Beautiful view, decent dining experience. All tables provide a waterfront view. Service was slow despite the restaurant not seeming to be very busy. The menu was expansive and our food was good, but not extraordinary.
Terrible service - the waitress was slow, didn’t refill drinks, etc
The food was very good and the water views are beautiful. The service was excellent - friendly and helpful.
The space could use a little "refresh" as it is very dated. Also, when you are paying these kinds of prices, one would expect that you wouldn't have paper place-mats and little plastic "to-go" type containers that you serve ketchup, cocktail sauce, or aoili in.
Prime rib, now only on weekends, is always good. Other dishes are so so. Service was usually pretty fast but had an off day. Waited more than 30 minutes for entree.
It took over ten minutes for a hostess to seat us. Not because there were no empty seats, but because the staff was so overwhelmed. Food needs a refresh. I think they are holding onto an old fashioned menu that doesn't much appeal anymore. Calamari and pasta was POACHED calamari rather than grilled, sauteed or even fried, a top a bed of angel hair pasta with a jar of Alfredo sauce. This was the first time in my life I have had poached calamari. It tasted undercooked and completely void of any flavor or interest. Clam chowder was from a can, and Country Crock butter spread was served with the stale bread. Shirley Temple drinks for my girls came in terrible plastic cups, were not tasty or true to the recipe, and did not even include a cherry. I am not sure what is going on at this restaurant. Better to park and enjoy the view than to eat the food.
pier 29 is one of my favorite restaurants in the bay. good seats everywhere w/ a view, attentive, reliable service, good food & good menu options. it's a great place for a casual meal or to easily accommodate that special occasion. i highly recommend pier 29!...

My favorite place for family and friends get-to-gather. Loves the early bird manual and excellent view on both sides: bay view on one side and boat view on the other.
I seldom tip less than 20%, today I tipped only 10 and that only out of concern the server may have had too many tables.
The restaurant did not seem busy for its size, drinks were prompt but everything slowed to a snails pace after that. After finishing the first round of drinks and water glasses we had to flag the server for another round. The 2nd drink had soap in the glass and had to be replaced. The main course was not served for at least 45 minutes. The meal was OK but ho-hum at best. The server seems unconcerned and was unapologetic about the drink or the excessive amount of time.
I seldom write negative reviews but this restaurant failed to meet any reasonable service expectations.
Good options on early bird specials including vegetarian entree.
This restaurant experience was awful. The service was the worst. Shrimp appetizer consisted of baby shrimp that looked as if they came out of a can.
What a surprising find! Very old world, but in a good way! Great view, great food, great value, and great service.
Our server was very sweet, but there weren't enough servers to expedite the food. My husband's lobster and filet mignon were cold.
A pleasant surprise. My wife and I had a good time.
This restaurant going further downhill... we need a makeover. Food is not fresh. My husband complained of stomach cramps and a guest at another table sent her food back. It is so disappointing to see this restaurant getting worse and worse. It's such a great location but we have seen a serious decline in the portions over the last few years and the quality of the food has slipped and slipped and is no longer there. It is not a good value any more. Maybe the menu is too much? It's time to simplify and plan for the future. What happened to the good ol' days with the excellent fried zucchini appetizer and the Teryaki steak? That was the best ever. Go back to basics! Somehow Pier 29 must find new customers and find a way to impress them.....Pier 29 is losing their old customers... that old crowd is thinning out... it's time to revamp and appeal to a new crowd. Keep the early bird for those customers who love it but fix your food quality issue. Bring in a consultant and get squared away before it's too late.
Great place. Early bird special wonderful. Service is outstanding and a party of 15. We we're all well taken care of... even the kids..
We kinda took it over.
Made reservation via Open Table for dinner. Had out of town friends, one of whom had a birthday. Staff was courteous and accommodating. The menu is what you find at old style seafood restaurants. Food was prepared well and we all enjoyed our meals. Server brought dessert for friend with birthday. We lingered, talking, for about 45 minutes and were not rushed by staff. It was a good experience. I've eaten here several times during the past 2-3 years and have had no complaints.
Very nice experience. Wait service very helpful and friendly.
Used OpenTable it's still had to wait 45 minutes with the reservation and plus they didn't have the reservation confirmation.Sat us at a table right next to the food in and out kitchen. Thanks
