Pier 23 Cafe Ratings and Reviews
The main attraction of Pier 23 is location-view-ambiance with decent comfort food and service. They could improve their menu with the following (1) more options for vegetarians (there are practically none; (2) drop the pizza , its awful and this establishment does not have the facility for making decent pizzas.
We started coming to Pier 23 30 years ago when they had some great local musicians. The live music is not so great now and not the attraction for coming.
This seems to be an off the beaten path spot in the perfect location. Just West of the Ferry Building, but quieter with tremendous old San Francisco charm. Our server, Dean, was friendly and efficient. The food, especially the chowder, was scrumptious. The patio, with transparent walls, made for perfect enjoyment of the boats and ships of San Francisco Bay. Very high quality food and charming environment for a reasonable price. I love this place!
This is usually a favorite of ours and we go specifically for the whole roasted Dungeness every year for my birthday. However, this has been the third year in a row that there hasn't been whole roasted crab. The season is in full swing yet they didn't have it. I have now learned to call before we go, as we drive two hours to get there! It was a real disappointment.
I wasn’t expecting the live Honky Tonk music and that made it an adventure. Service was fast, friendly. I gave 4 stars because the guacamole sucked (sorry Pier 23), but everything else amazing. Baked Hawaii was amazing (I think they put crack in it), the sole special with zucchini noodles sooo good. The shrimp and crab sandwich should have had the bread toasted and buttered - c’mon it was cheat night and i thought it was like a crab and shrimp roll. Fish n chips - delish, and the tuna (not quite poke) bowl was tasty as well. I recommend for drop-in. I was there with out towner’s fiends and they said, weird set up but great food and service is excellent.
I was looking for a memorable dining experience neat AT&T park that would be fun and romantic. I was sold on the fish and chips review of another and wasn't disappointed. The batter was perfect and the fish just melted in your mouth. Was hoping to sample the legendary octopus tacos, but that was not on the menu. Staff was very friendly. Made reservation on Open Table and was seated immediately on time which was very nice. Heard service could be slow, but the garlic fries appetizer came out quick and was perfect to munch on until the entree arrived. LOVE this place. Will be coming back to check out the local music scene.
Very disappointed. This was a special birthday celebration. Reservation was made weeks in advance. Received 4 phone calls that morning that the credit card machine was broken and I would have to pay in cash. Not a problem. I arrived to find a sign on the door that the restaurant was closed. I asked the hostess who said if I wanted to order right away, the kitchen was still open. We did. The appetizers, drinks, salads and entrees all came at the same time. Then the check. No dessert. Disappointed for a celebration. No apologizes from the management, nothing.
Hostess forgot I told her I had reservations I guess, they sat us at the bar because food service hadn't started yet. Once it did, she sat people who just walked in even though we were first people in restaurant. I had to approach her to be seated, She sat us away from water, another couple asked if they could sit closer to water and they were told it was for people with reservations. Disappointed for my nephew and fiance from back east.
Really love the seafood here. Food is delicious and like casual setting. We shared the mussels, baked oysters, and carnitas quesadilla with a bottle of whit wine. Perfect for a hot day and desserts were really good too. Service was prompt and friendly. Kids liked it too and they have a good kids menu that includes seafood. Only downside was it took a long time to get the check. Other than that was a fun time with delicious food and will go again. Craving those baked oysters.
