Piccolo's Ratings and Reviews
Our server , Janet, was excellent. Pleasant and efficient. Did not mind taking time to explain the menu.
Ambience is old school Italian, not a fancy place. A lot of the customers were regulars.
Food was excellent. I had a fantastic salad with green apples and gorgonzola. Entrees were pasta with sausage. Pasta was cooked just right and the red sauce was very good.
I would come here again.
Had dinner on Valentine’s day. Food was good. Menu is short, but covers the bases and has nice variety. Well written -every entree sounds good. Wine by the glass had few, but pretty good, pricey selection. Tables in front room were so close waitstaff could not work around them. Not enough waitstaff -they seemed harried and rushed.
I've had a couple of good meals at Piccolo's so I can't say this is the norm, although it was a few years ago that I had those meals, but our Valentine's Day meals left a lot to be desired. Firstly, even though we made our appointment a week in advance we were sat right in front of the entry door, getting blasted by cold wintry air every time someone walked in. I asked to be seated anywhere else and they would not comply. Secondly, they couldn't make a Kentucky Mule at the bar, made my wife's Extra Dirty Martini straight up, and lastly never asked us if we wanted a refill. They also brought 1 glass of ice water to our table...1. I ordered the eggplant manzana. It was served as a side to pasta that had what tasted like a can of diced tomatoes posing as a marinara sauce, and there was not an ounce of extra "sauce" served on or near the eggplant. Overall it lacked any sort of seasoning. My wife ordered the pepper chicken & broccoli. This dish was definitely better but lacked enough sauce and was much more than al dente and my wife found bones in the chicken. Our server was ok, but the person who came out to grate fresh cheese had no idea what she was doing. She could barely operate the grinder, spilling loads of cheese on the floor and not even picking it up. I hate writing bad reviews, but I can say for sure that it'll be a while before we head back to Piccolo's.
First time visit before a show at the Hanover Theater. Read previous reviews and they were right. Every dish was well made and delicious--shrimp & salmon over linguine, veal scallopine and chicken parm-like special. House salad big enough for 4. Asparagus appetizer fresh and perfectly cooked. Our server, when asked about servings was honest that they were big and shareable--thanks for that! Good value to price and a very good wine list. Great service.
We recently visit for New Year's Eve. It's such a busy night for restaurants, but despite the holiday, the food was great and the service was excellent. We started with bacon wrapped scallops and they were perfectly prepared. Both our entrees were excellent! No room left for dessert. Maybe next time. Would highly recommend!!
Our party of four thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Piccolo's. We had patronized the restaurant a couple of times in the past and the food, service and ambiance has been wonderful each time. Our friends had never been to Piccolo's before, but loved the food and the entire experience. We will definitely be back!
The food was delicious. had the papardelle pasta with spicy sausage. outstanding red sauce and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. My husband had veal parmigiana. The veal was tender and the portion was large. Both meals outstanding. If you love traditional Italian food you have too try this place.
The food was very good, however the service was very slow. The place wasn't packed when we arrived but by the time we left, it was hopping. Parking is extremely limited. The place has great ambience, however the biggest detractor is that the tin ceiling reflects a lot of sound. You can hear pretty such everyone's conversation even though it's difficult to have a conversation with the person across the table. Overall, I would recommend the restaurant.
My daughter and I went before a show at The Hanover Theater and our dinners were very good. The service was great as was the food. We have been to Piccolo's before which is why we went back.
A helpful tip, always choose the dining room side during the winter as the bar area gets cold when the front door keeps opening.
This place is truly a time warp experience. It reminded us of the 'old neighborhood' Italian decor and ambience wise. Don't be detured, embrace it. The food is AWESOME. Started by sharing a Margarita Pizza with anchovies, YUM. Then had one of the best veal porterhouse chops ever and my husband had Linguini with clams and mussels. The drinks are generous and service warm, friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this spot over its higher priced neighbors.
We've been enjoying Johnny Piccolo's cooking for ages and he never fails to please. If you want a Boston North End experience in Worcester, Piccolo's looks, tastes and feels like it. With so many Italian restaurants to choose from, it's always nice coming home!
I recently had a very important out of town customer visit our business and decided to reserve someplace other than our usual restaurants -and chose Piccolo's . I was really happy with my choice. The service was friendly and our waitress was really helpful and informative. The restaurant itself was really conducive to our business/ social dinner - the ambiance is nice and rather "old school", and the noise level actually allowed us to talk without raising our voices or cupping hands to ears! Best of all - the food was excellent, and even the one person who is gluten free found an excellent selection. I would strongly recommend Piccolo for anyone looking for a place to accommodate a moderately large dinner group or a small intimate one.
Once seated, waited a long time before anybody acknowledged us. Servers kept walking by us, no greeting, no water glasses, no offer to get us something from the bar. Are we invisible? Finally were able to order a glass of wine, my Sauvignon blanc from the wine list was out of of stock, ( the only one they offer by the glass). My husband ordered a merlot, but they brought him a different wine (of their choosing) because they were out of his selection too! If you don't have it - take it off the wine list and offer something else! Why not offer the alternate selection by the glass? Would it kill you to to open a bottle of something you don't normally sell by the glass?
Somebody else's app & salad were brought to our table. They left the salad with my husband as it was the same one he had ordered, but mine took another 10 minutes to arrive.
It was not an issue of being understaffed - the dining room was only 1/3 full on a Sat. Night.
The food was a step above the service, but by that time our expectations were not high. Will not be back.
My friends and I attend this fine establishment every year the first Friday of August . We have had the same smiling , grateful, and energetic waitress for the past three years. Very accommodating family style restaurant that will leave your stomach's full and satisfied. Great menu and perfect wine pairings. We will always feel as though you welcome to a great meal !!

The service was wonderful and attentive. However, the food fell below par. Of special note, one of our group requested a very plain pasta Alfredo with no garlic, pepper, or parsley. There was still a flavor in the sauce that didn't work for him, and as he has digestive issues, he suffered later. I didn't taste it. Perhaps it wasn't made from scratch, which should be a simple cream and butter sauce with some parmesan which he regularly orders with no problem. He ate less than a quarter of the portion, and while the server noticed that he didn't seem to enjoy his meal, there was nothing offered in exchange, other than to take the remainder home, which he declined. The rest of our meals were quite passable, desserts were very ordinary. This is not a restaurant I would revisit.
Our waitress was fabulous! She was very patient & guided us through the wine and food menus. It was the first time any of us dined at the restaurant and she made it a reason to come back. The restaurant also let us bring in a homemade cake to celebrate a friend's birthday. The staff even came out with the cake lit up & sang happy birthday. It made my friend's night.
We have dined at Piccolo's a few times now and always love it! Theresa was our server tonight (and the time before actually) and she always does a magnificent job. I found a new favorite wine tonight - the Gascon Malbec along with a new favorite pasta dish, Gamberi Juliana. My fiancé loved his meal too - veal but I can't remember the name... We love the food, ambience (music and lighting is always on point), and the service! Can't wait to go back!
Had a great experience at Piccolo's. The service was very good, we had a main server and she had help. We weren't rushed, she was attentive, kept water glasses filled, etc. We shared several dishes and they provided us with serving spoons - so often that doesn't happen and so that is why I am mentioning. There was a nice selection of dishes - Italian staples and several specials - everything was very well prepared. We ordered two different veal dishes. Delicious! Didn't take forever to prepare and arrived steaming hot. It was loud as other reviewers have said. There was a large table of 12 behind us and hard to talk over them. Adding table cloths would improve the experience. We are planning to return!
We made a reservation for a bachelorette night kickoff. The food was incredible, the service (Teresa) was very friendly, helpful, and attentive. It was great to meet Piccolo himself and enjoy the no-nonsense, wonderful ambiance. The value of the food here is unbeatable.
