Piccolo Trattoria- Doylestown
In a garlic caper lemon white wine sauce.
Top of line Grande cheese, fresh garlic, basil, parmigiano cheese, oregano and extra virgin olive oil.
We go to Piccolo often and this is the first time the meal was sub-par. They seemed to be busy and the quality and flavor of the meals were not as good as usual. Even the cocktail was not as flavorful as normally.
Although we go here a lot for dinner, last night was definitely an off night. Food was good but execution was off. Some salads came, others did not. Everything came whenever, had to ask for one dinner which never showed until our waitress, Olivia, went and got them to make it for us. Not sure if it was that for a Wednesday it was an unusually busy night, kitchen help was short or wait staff, as for many restaurants is a problem. I'm sure they'll get things back together, this is a nice restaurant so I hope they do.
Food was delicious and plentiful!
They had excellent appetizers and bread. We enjoyed the olive oil mixture used for bread dipping. The grilled octopus and fried artichokes were standouts. The white wine mussels were decently done.
The fried calamari and pizza were at supermarket level. Tasted like something they had just unfrozen, nothing fresh at all about them.
Entrées of chicken pappardelle and veal in cream sauce were heavy, but I suppose that was what one should expect. The old-time "comes with a salad/soup and a side of pasta" were overkill. Once again tasted canned. If people rating by portion, which I am sure many folks do, then great. However, the sauces and enormous portions overwhelmed any finesse the chef may have exerted on the dishes.
My favorite restaurant. Love taking my mother here.
It is understandable that on a cloudless Wednesday night, as post-COVID restrictions have begun to lift, that it might be a little slower than normal. All the better for us. Food was very tasty. Chilean Sea Bass stuffed with crab on a bed of sautéed spinach was excellent. My wIfe, and our friend, reported that their two different salmon dishes were really good. Salads that preceded were crisp, bread was perfect, and the NY-style cheesecake scrumptious. Service was fast and extremely friendly. Only complaint, the decaf coffee was subpar. That’s an easy fix so hopefully they’ll step up their Java game going forward. Highly recommend.
Food was delicious. Our party had the two fish specials and the rib eye - food was prepared perfectly. Service is what was lacking. Server wanted to take our entire order when she stopped by initially for drink orders. One of the drinks was incorrect. One of the soups was “to go” but was delivered to the table in a bowl. And that was only the beginning. Would definitely return but would ask for a different server.
Great food. We had a very pleasant experience and will definitely be going back.
Our server was slow and kept bringing other people's orders to our table. Our drink orders took 15 minutes to come (2 glasses of wine). The food is was good and we're large portions. We had the eggplant Parmigiano and Lobster ravioli. Very Good!
We had a great experience on Mother’s Day! The restaurant was very busy and the Piccolo Trattoria- Doylestown team hustled to get everyone served; they did a fantastic job! Our server was awesome and ensured that we had everything we needed. The food was excellent and we will be back!
It was obvious they were short staffed, but the server did a great job and we weren’t in a hurry. The food was so good!
My wife and I visited twice in less than a month. Food was consistently outstanding both visits; flavorful, served hot, and a terrific variety. We are (were) considering Piccolo for our son's rehearsal dinner. The service the first time was very slow, initial bread, dip and water was quick; however, it took 15 minutes to see a server and place a drink order which took another 10 minutes to receive. Waited again for the server and once the order placed our meal was delivered in a reasonable time. Manager indicted the wait staff was short due to illness. The second visit, Saturday of Mother's Day weekend, we took our daughter who was in from New York and it was a disaster. The restaurant was very short staffed, we waited 35 minutes for our first glass of wine, and over an hour for our meal. Some of the tables were getting up and leaving due to the wait. When we asked the manager he stated that half of his staff was out due to the prom. Great food, suggestion to management: only book what your staff can adequately cover. There are many options for dining in the area and poor service will drive patrons away. We will not be back for a while.
They are just very under staffed
Found this place thanks to open table while traveling through Doylestown. The service was fantastic and the food was good. It was a great place to go with my kids and they thankfully ate. We left happy.
Excellent food, waitress was very nice, had a great time. Thanks.
Excellent food. Terrific service. Good company (not that the restaurant had anything to do with the company). I look forward to going back.
Great food, service and ambiance!
Delicious appetizers and Great service from Diana at the bar.
The chef accommodated our request perfectly. The service was wonderful
Food is delicious
Love the beautiful decor
Table was ready upon arrival
Service was professional , courteous
Water was replenished plenty,
Bread was fresh, with a unique dipping sauce
App / entrees came out same time.
Food was very good, small issue with the pasta slightly overdone and the sauce was soupy, but the chicken parm and white pizza was great.
It’s a little pricey but the food is high quality
We are likely to come again for special occasions.
Great food, great atmosphere, great date night with my husband!
Good food, good service. No complaints whatsoever. Always enjoy our meals at Piccolo’s.
The food was fantastic!
The service was amazing. The staff was very attentive. The food was delicious. There was something for everyone.
An overall good experience -- excellent food -- and the setup was good, considering spacing.
A nice atmosphere with great service and a variety of daily dinner specials that appeal to all, fish, pasta and meat.
It was a Tuesday so maybe there weren’t enough servers or cooks, but service was slow. I remember the food being much better in prior visits 2019/2020
Very noisy to the point where it was hard to hear my wife. We sat near a table of kids, with one kid fidgeting and constantly out of his seat, on the floor, and generally moving about. Crowded, and not with as much social distancing as I would have liked. Food was excellent. Service was a little slow, but waiter was very pleasant.
They seemed to be totally overwhelmed. It took 30 minutes after being seated to take our order. Not one thing we ordered was correct. The pizza was soggy, the pasta came out with no taste pasta, just sauce, my cousins entree was not made according to the description etc. The only thing good I can say is that the manager was very apologetic and comped our entire meal. Having been a restaurant owner I would expect the owner to care more about what is going on in his restaurant. It’s a shame as it used to be a pretty good restaurant.
Disappointed with chicken piccata. Was not seasoned, lightly floured or pounded flat. Seafood Bisque bland.
The service was very good, food was delicious!! Beautiful place, very nice atmosphere. Would differently go check it out.
Poor service, ordered a second drink with dinner took 15 minutes to come. We were just about done with dinner told the waiter to take them back witch he did. But somehow they ended up on the check.
This is my favorite local Italian restaurant. They have a variety of menu options and the portions are a good size. They also have a dessert tray with various options and their specialty drinks are delicious too!
Although we had a reservation it took 10 minutes to accommodate us . They didn't have room in the dining room so they seated us up front in the small take out area, which was cold because of the two entryway doors being constantly opened by patrons. Then it took an additional 20 minutes before a waitress came over to greet us, partly due to the attendance to an elderly couple who wouldn't stop complaining. The food was mediocre and the waitress unapologetic. We will be taking our business elsewhere.
Greeted at reception and seated quickly. Friendly responsive staff. Food and drink were so good!
Awesome meal service and environment
We are happy we found this restaurant!! The food is AMAZING!!!! Service is great as always.
The only thing we missed, and it is due to Covid we are sure, are the couple that sings while you eat. They are great too and really missed!!
I was excited for valentines. Ultimately I had three major issues though.
1. They have a beautiful kitchen that you can see, watching them cook. Only one cook was wearing a mask. Many had them under their chins or around their neck. I told the waitress of my concern. She relayed to a manager evidently. I saw him individually tell all the cooks. They corrected, for about three minutes. Then the masks returned to being non existent.
2. I have a very strict diet due to many allergies and restrictions. That’s why I heavily use open table to seek out menus and do my homework. The normal menu worked where I found one item off of it. Then we went and they had a valentines menu. They should of put that menu on open table versus it being a surprise. I ended up having to go against some restrictions.
3. The restaurant has ample space to accomodate the current restrictions. Having two dining rooms. Yet, they chose to not have the one dining room used for eating and chose to cram all guests in the one room. We sat at a regular table, not a booth. And we were surrounded by other patrons within 4-5’.
I’ve always enjoyed this restaurant. Dined many times prior. I will not return with how this night was.
Went out for a birthday dinner. We haven’t been out to eat for awhile. We found Piccolo very safe, service was very good and food was very good.

Yes, you can generally book this restaurant by choosing the date, time and party size on OpenTable. Due to local restrictions, this restaurant may not be accepting reservations at the moment.
