Piccolo Sogno Ratings and Reviews
We had a later reservation in the evening. The waiter was not friendly & acted as though, since we were his last table for the night, that we were not as important as the tables he most likely had earlier in the evening. He was rude & short in his service. He actually left before we were done dining & another waiter introduced himself & took over the original waiter's shift. The bus boys were actually the nicest. The food was mediocre to poor & it was overall a very disappointing experience. We will not be going back, nor recommending it to others.
It was my first time to Piccolo Sogno. It had been recommended by a friend a few years ago and I had never had the chance to try it out. I was celebrating a completion of an event with two friends. They had wanted an italian restaurant with good food and a lovely environment. I suggested we try Piccolo Mondo since i trusted my friend's recommendation. We were able to achieve those 2 requirements, and in addition, all the staff from the valet drivers, to the greeters at the entrance, and the wait staff was so attentive. We never felt rushed or hurried to place our order or eat our meals. We felt like we were luxuriating in time, taste and attention. We each ordered a different entree and all three were delicious. It was a lovely and leisurely luncheon and a perfect place for a celebration.
Love the food and atmosphere. Have dined here several times, most recently for our anniversary. Was surprised that we weren’t offered a complementary dessert, with that being so common anywhere else. But still one of my favorite restaurants.
My wife and I were quite surprised by our meal here. We've dined here several times and always had a great experience. We're quite picky about Italian food and this is one of three Italian restaurants we'll eat at in Chicago. This time, however, the food was flat. Authentic ingredients, well put together, but the flavors were flat. Table service was wonderful, as always, but we had reservations for four, were seated first, and the other couple was taken to the bar without telling them we were already there. We all waited twenty minutes before texting each other brought us together - a bad mistake. We'll return, and write this off as just a random bad night there, but it was a bad night.
Had a wonderful celebratory lunch here. The service was top notch and we enjoyed sharing the Prosciutto di Parma, the Bronzino special and a cáprese salad as well as a beautiful chocolate “birthday” dessert. We literally lingered for hours without being rushed and the service was attentive throughout.
A nice offering at lunchtime is complimentary valet service. Shame on the attendant who accepted the usual parking fee plus a generous tip without alerting me to the fact that I had overpaid. Another customer in the lot brought it to my attention.
However nothing could sully the perfect afternoon we spent at Piccolo Sogno.
We went here on my first night in Chicago. The food was all excellent! I got the gnocchi for an appetizer and the pancetta wrapped cod for my entree - it was all amazing and flavorful without being too heavy. We added a bottle of Chianti for the full experience and it was wonderful! The restaurant itself was warm, so dress accordingly.
amazing regional italian, not what i would expect in chicago. food was all tip top, service was a bit over the top. too hurried and too many people on the floor. made you me think “can you guys slow down clearing off and resetting for the next course. it was a little nuts.
Service was ok. The waiter was nice but made bad recommendations, although I don't think it was necessarily his fault because he's not the one in the kitchen. Started with the cold antipasto by his recommendation which was a plate of underseasoned grilled vegetables with some sliced meat and cheese. One of us ordered the tagliatelle while the other ordered the pappardelle. When the entrees came both pasta dishes were pappardelle and seemed to be the same exact sauce while one should have been a veal ragu and the other wild boar. And my shortrib was rather dry and the sauce was bland. On top of that the service was very rushed and we didn't feel like we were able to just sit and enjoy the meal. And also the ricotta cheese cake must have been frozen 2 months ago after being over baked for about an hour then thawed out and served to us. Probably the worst dessert I've ever had would not recommend. Needless to say I'm sure there are MUCH better Italian restaurants in Chicago.
Calamari was great! Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Timing for food and drinks was spot on. Enjoyed the Polletto, cooked perfectly and was a good sized portion - not too small, not too big, just right! And the Rapini side dish that came with it was a delight. The desert special was a pumpkin creme brûlée which we enjoyed. Served in a mini pumpkin / gord, great presentation
The service was very attentive. Great advice was given by the waiter for wine, entrees and dessert. We chose the squash pasta and the seafood with black spaghetti. Both were delicious. We decided to forgo antipasti so that we would have room for the desserts which were wonderful. We again went with the recommendations from the waiter and we were delighted with the chocolate hazelnut lava cake and the pumpkin creme brûlée. A couple of espressos finished the evening. We highly recommend Piccolo Sogno.
