Piccolo Sogno Ratings and Reviews
I think Piccolo Sogno just gets better and better with each visit. Service from host to bartender to waitress and bus service were all wonderful and they were gracious to a fault on a very busy Tuesday evening in January.
Food was delicious and salad was perfectly dressed and mushroom pasta special had an earthy, robust flavor and I love that they do half-size orders!
A favorite place for all occasions!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Chicago. I can't wait to return. The food was excellent, though very rich. We had entrees of duck, gnocchi, ravioli and salads for dinner with a hazelnut chocolate dessert with ice cream. The atmosphere is cozy and attractive with brick walls. The service was excellent except they served a different wine than we had ordered and had apparently run out of two that we requested. Nobody communicated that they were serving us a different wine. It made me wonder if that was intentional.
Piccolo Songo was recommended to us by several acquaintances and it did not disappoint! The wine list was amazing and the food was authentic and delicious (we are Italian and picky about what we will eat outside of our own home). Portions were more than generous, ambiance was perfect and we will definitely go back when we have the opportunity to do so. Buon appetito!
Enjoyed our dinner, food and service, but were not pleased that we had a reservation and our table wasn't available until almost 25 minutes past our reservation time. And the hostess was not apologetic about it. Apparently that was the case for many other reservations as well . The restaurant needs to do a better job of managing that so reservations are honored on time.
It was the worst dining experience that we have had in over 40 years. Our table was by kitchen and staff kept hitting my husband. He was hit over 10 times by elbows, bodies, pitchers, and chairs. The hostess even elbowed him in the back of his neck. We moved table as close to wall as possible making it uncomfortable for our friends. We also moved as close as we could to the next table without much improvement. The manager was called and all he did was apologize and give us his card. He said he would get us a better table next time. All the tables in back room are too close together. There is no room for workers to walk through. I am very aware of the low profit margin in restaurants but the owners should be ashamed to put their guests in such an uncomfortable environment.
Excellent place for intimate dinner or with friends. Attentive staff. We ordered beet salad and calamari to start. I had the lobster risotto special and spouse ordered the black spaghetti with seafood. My rissoto was slightly undercooked and overly salted, husband's dish was good. Would returb to try other items on menu
The food was extremely bland, very disappointing for this type of restaurant. I've been there once before years ago and it's no longer up to standard. We had to salt our food, which i haven't done in a restaurant for a very long time. Also, all 3 of us felt sick to our stomachs that night and the next day. I will never be eating there again.
Enjoyed every part of the experience except our table location. We were seated in the tented area at the far corner. It was cold, drafty and uncomfortable. Additionally, seating was tight; the couple next to us were only a few inches away and we could hear everything. I don't think you should seat people against your plastic windows on a cold winter night. It really detracted from our experience of enjoying your wonderful food and service.
Great example of how a otherwise wonderful meal can be ruined by seating. The 4 of us had a lovely little 4top until a party of 8 bachelorettes got seated next to us. Not that I deprive anyone of a good time but I don’t know how 8 people can produce so much noise. 2 of is left with a headache and I spent the evening saying “what?” to my friends more often than I’d care to. Pity. Moral of the story- never sit next to an empty 8 top
This is one of our favorites in the City. Our last visit was Saturday Jan. 6th and it was one of the best meals I have had. Service is impeccable and food is always spot on. I would recommend this restaurant based on food, service or ambiance but it is also a neighborhood spot out away from the River North area.
Food and service were good. The restaurant has a beautiful patio, where you wanted to be seated in the Summer, but it's not ideal in December. On this night, it was cold, and we could hear the street noise. This atmosphere, combined with the several families with small children seated next to us, dampened the romantic evening.
I love this place, but must have hit it on an off night......They made good on the bad food by taking it off the bill, buying desert and offering to fix the meal. I think this is a beautiful restaurant. Chef Tony is a wonderful guy too. I will go back again.
Our waiter made sure we were comfortable on a frigid cold day. He also helped us with our dietary restrictions and the food was delicious. The Griglia Mista salad never disappoints and i tried the beet salad and it was delightful. Another great meal at a neighborhood place.
Recently, on a bitterly cold evening, the lady and I had a wonderful meal. The soup special, with potato chunks, white beans, herbs, and some vegetables, was hearty and delicious. I've visited Piccolo Sogno many times, and usually order pasta. A small order of pappardelle with wild boar ragu was a great deal of food, a hearty, stick-to-the-ribs option well suited to a wintry Chicago night. A side of arugula with white beans with tomato-based sauce was a feast, and the mille foglie dessert, with crème fraiche, was big enough for 2 to enjoy. It's especially nice to park in the Piccolo Sogno lot and not worry about street parking. Piccolo Sogno is the most fun in summer, out on their terrace, but in winter, the menu offers good choices also.
We were very disappointed with the risotto and ravioli we had. The only good thing about the entire experience was the gnocchi we had as an appetizer. The place where we were seated was extremely cramped to the point that my hair kept touching the person who was seated at the table behind me every time I sat back. The restrooms weren’t exactly clean either. It was our wedding anniversary and I regret choosing this restaurant to celebrate it at.
Went on the day after Christmas & place was surprisingly crowded. But wait staff did their best to cover everyone. Food was great, especially the grilled calamari, risotto and spaghetti. I was with 2 people & we shared everything. Portions were perfect. Closed out night with biscottis & they were great & popular in our group. Would come back to try other dishes.
This was our second visit to Piccolo and as often happens, it wasn't quite up to our first visit. We were seated next to the kitchen entrance which is not the most enjoyable place to sit. The mixed seafood grill was excellent as was the arugula salad. Unfortunately, our main courses didn't live up to the openers. My spouse had the blue crab pasta special. The pasta and sauce were good, but the crab was dry and sort of tasteless. I had the duck as recommended by the waiter. There were two large legs and thighs. The duck was also somewhat dry and not very flavorful. However, the sides of pureed cauliflower and sautéed kale were outstanding. I had to request a second opinion on wine pairings as the first server advice was "it depends on what you like" when I was looking for his expertise. Overall, I'd rate this experience a 3.5/5 compared to the 5/5 for our first experience.
My wife and I ate here on a Saturday evening. The fried calamari was lightly breaded and delicious. My wife ordered the gnocchi and I ordered the rabbit. Both the dishes were very good and no leftovers were taken home. My only concern was our waiter seemed to be hurrying us through our dinner so that they could fill the table again.
