About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
Our name, which means “little dream” in Italian, was chosen by partners Tony Priolo and Ciro Longobardo because it had always been their dream to open a restaurant of their own. “The restaurant fits our personal goal to get to the heart of Italian wine and food,” says executive chef Priolo. “You go to Italy for simple food prepared by hand with local ingredients. We wanted to bring that experience to Chicago.”

Piccolo Sogno features a menu of seasonally fresh rustic Italian cuisine. The impressive all-Italian wine list boasts over 400 selections to pair with your meal.

When the weather allows, enjoy al fresco dining in the hidden garden patio-regularly recognized as one of the best in the city.

Starting December 1, Monday-Thursday we'll open at 5 pm rather than 4 pm-just for the winter.

You are welcome to bring a cake to celebrate. If you do, we will charge a $3 fee per person cake-cutting fee.

Beginning January 1, all credit card transactions will be charged a 3% fee.

This is my go to restaurant for a special occasion. Friday night it was so crowded....our wait for a reservation was 20 minutes....I asked for a quiet table although that was difficult since the restaurant was packed. The only saving grace for the evening was our server who did a fantastic job under a very challenging crowded and noisy room. Our appetizer squash blossoms were dry and not warm...they tasted like they were much earlier and not heated. The artichoke salad had no seasoning or taste at all. For some bizarre reason our entrees were cut in half and we each received half of both entrees ( as explained when delivered -to be shared...????) so when we explained that was not what we requested, they returned the entrees after putting the other half on each plate) It was one of the strangest events of the evening. We were seated in a back room that was so noisy I could hardly hear my companion talk. If it was a holiday weekend, the restaurant should have anticipated the crowd and been more careful in over booking the reservations so that there could have been a more pleasant evening for diners. I was very disappointed in the food, noise, reservation wait and overall experience.

We were confused based on the reviews and full restaurant. The food was just disappointing. The noise level on the outside tent patio was extremely high. Felt quite disappointed having picked this with an entire city to pick from.

We came for lunch. I know this restaurant is known for their patio. Unfortunately, it wasn't open yet. Food was average. Service was not particularly friendly. Overall, nothing to complain about, but there's nothing notable either.

This is still one of Chicago's great restaurants. The food is inventively prepared and the flavors are subtle. I have been dining here for many years although not frequently since I live in North. Carolina. Piccolo Sogno has never disappointed me.

I thought the buffalo cheese app was fair. Served on mortadella. Very unusual. But flavors didn’t go well together The parpadelle with boar meat was not up to par. The branzino was very good. Cooked in salt was very moist. The desert was very average We we were packed in and couldn’t find a passage out since we were blocked by a 4 top. I asked the waiter how were we supposed to get out and he showed us a tiny walk on a step. We are 2 80 year olds and were shocked he didn’t make a path for us. We had to ask the person at the 4 top to please let us through. I was sorry I left a 20 percent tip. I will not be returning very soon if at all
