Piccolo Sogno Ratings and Reviews
Staff was superficial and rude and rushed for us to leave within an hour, despite not being at capacity. We didn't get to taste the bottle of champagne we ordered as the waiter pretentiously said there is no need. We also got pressured to order entree with appetizer orders due to chef limitations. I was there with a female friend and the treatment we received was different than all the families around us. We were served by multiple waiters coming by almost every minute. I've had Italian cuisine both in Italy and worldwide and this restaurant has no reason to act like they are the customer and we're there to accommodate their needs.
The food was solid Italian, but nothing special. The service was personable and very attentive. The noise level was out of this world high. There was a large party of about 16 people who were drunk sitting behind this. My boyfriend and I were disappointed to be seated this way, since we had made advance reservations. We just dealt with it though, since we were coming from the ballet, and at 9:30 pm (our reservation time), we were starving. I would not return.
Piccolo Sogno was well recommended by Chicago diners that eat there regularly, particularly in the summer when the outdoor patio is open. Our three-person meal was generally good, although the calamari was served with lemons but no sauces and was very plain, and there was a very limited drink selection (other than wine). On the downside, we were seated in the back room near the entrance from the courtyard, and it was in use by a large party at a long table that was intolerably loud. I would not recommend accepting a seating in that room unless you want to scream to be heard.
The service at this establishment was impeccable. I took my daughter before a concert at the United Center. The recommendations were very good. The outdoor patio is closed, of course, but they have closed in a section and you get the feel of being outside. We came very early so that it was empty, but before we left the place was filled completely. The only regret I have is not ordering a pasta dish. The good news is that I will be back to get that sometime soon!
Simple Italian food cooked to perfection. Had the lasagna, recipe from Bologna, tasty yet light. My husband had the parpadelle with boar ragu, amazing, and our group also had the paglia i feno with a light meat sauce, delicious. Wine list is extensive. I had a Chianti from Toscana and it was really good. Service is pristine.Highly recommend.
It was a great dinner, split the chestnut pasta as an appetizer, had the cod, the duck, & the egg less custard along with wine, tea, & a cocktail. The ambiance is stellar and the location is easy to get to. This place will always be a go to for me, whether it’s a date or a business meal. Service and food are always impeccable.
Piccolo Sogno is a great go-to and has never dropped the ball on quality. Their daily specials are always fresh, made from scratch, and aim to please. The Italian forward wine list is always a pleasure - waiters are knowledgeable on recommending good options. Piccolo Sogno is one of the few restaurants I'll order seafood from in the city - cooked to perfection and so fresh tasting. The lemon panna cotta is always ridiculously delicious, so I highly recommend ordering that!
Our experience at Piccolo Sogno on Sunday night was delightful. We had unbelievable service, our server was exceptionally good with the kids that were with our group (1.5 and 4 years old) and helped to keep the kids attentive and engaged. She had fantastic suggestions for wines based on the food we ordered and the food was consistently out of this world. All pastas are made fresh and the specials (Penne Ragu and Whole fish cooked and fileted) were totally worth spending the money on. The food alone makes this place worth going to, but the added benefit of the spectacular service and little details is what makes this place so great! I highly recommend Piccolo Sogno, and suggest making reservations - especially on busy nights.
On a recent long weekend in Chicago, we met friends for a get together. Was pleasantly surprised by the menu and quality of the food. Entrees + pastas were Excellent. Didn't realize what a popular place this was until we left....the bar was packed and long wait even for reservaton holders.
Great date night with the hubby. I love that they serve the option of "appetizer size" pasta dishes. The brown butter sage squash ravioli was sweet, but to die for. I will be having dreams of that dish for a while. Salmon was just salmon. Excellent service, delicious food.
Everything we've ever had at Piccolo Sogno has been delicious: mixed seafood grill, pastas, pizza, roasted whole fish. Upon our most recent visit, the absolute standout was the pasta with wild mushrooms. Every time we visit this restaurant, we get full before we can try all of the menu items we wanted to. Can't wait to return.
We had a later reservation in the evening. The waiter was not friendly & acted as though, since we were his last table for the night, that we were not as important as the tables he most likely had earlier in the evening. He was rude & short in his service. He actually left before we were done dining & another waiter introduced himself & took over the original waiter's shift. The bus boys were actually the nicest. The food was mediocre to poor & it was overall a very disappointing experience. We will not be going back, nor recommending it to others.
It was my first time to Piccolo Sogno. It had been recommended by a friend a few years ago and I had never had the chance to try it out. I was celebrating a completion of an event with two friends. They had wanted an italian restaurant with good food and a lovely environment. I suggested we try Piccolo Mondo since i trusted my friend's recommendation. We were able to achieve those 2 requirements, and in addition, all the staff from the valet drivers, to the greeters at the entrance, and the wait staff was so attentive. We never felt rushed or hurried to place our order or eat our meals. We felt like we were luxuriating in time, taste and attention. We each ordered a different entree and all three were delicious. It was a lovely and leisurely luncheon and a perfect place for a celebration.
Love the food and atmosphere. Have dined here several times, most recently for our anniversary. Was surprised that we weren’t offered a complementary dessert, with that being so common anywhere else. But still one of my favorite restaurants.
My wife and I were quite surprised by our meal here. We've dined here several times and always had a great experience. We're quite picky about Italian food and this is one of three Italian restaurants we'll eat at in Chicago. This time, however, the food was flat. Authentic ingredients, well put together, but the flavors were flat. Table service was wonderful, as always, but we had reservations for four, were seated first, and the other couple was taken to the bar without telling them we were already there. We all waited twenty minutes before texting each other brought us together - a bad mistake. We'll return, and write this off as just a random bad night there, but it was a bad night.
