Piccolo Mondo - Hyde Park

Our service was very good and the food was excellent. I had the spinach lasagna and had left overs. Always great service and delicious food. Looking forward to returning!

Great food, excellent service, delightful ambiance

This is a local hidden treasure! I really can’t say anything negative about the dining.. from the appetizer - calamari (prepared perfectly) to the desert (chocolate cake) everything was delicious! I will definitely go back and try more items on the menu!

We had a very good experience. The grilled calamari was delicious. I had the Norwegian Salmon special which was terrific. My friend had the French crepes. She wasn’t as pleased with her choice. All in all we had a good experience.

Quality food, attentive service

We shared a salad, had 3 different entrees (one fish, one pasta, one chicken) & had 3 different desserts. ALL were superb, as was the service! We'll be back!

The food was good and wasn't too expensive for lunch. The room was noisy. The service was spotty. It was open on a Monday. This restaurant doesn't give OpenTable points.

A friend and I went for Piccolo Mondo for lunch. It is a great lunch spot. Not too crowded and quiet enough for easy conversation. The staff is always very attentive.
My friend is a vegan. She had a salad that she thought was very good. I'm a diary-free pescatarian. I had the tuna-stuffed tube pasta small plate. It was delicious and was enough food for lunch.

The food was adequate but fairly over priced for what you received. We needed a place to go before a musical performance at UChicago, and it fit the bill. My husband and I had entrees, water and split a dessert and it was nearly $80 for lunch. While I don't mind the price, the food did not live up to the price tag. Although nothing was wrong with it per se, I was not wowed. The servers seemed somewhat bored.

Food was average at best and the prices were high given the quality. Dishes were very saucy and not particularly tasty.

It was great! Amazing food and awesome service! We will be back.

Food was very good. It was loud when we got there. We asked for a table where we could at least sit closer to each other so we could have a conversation but were told no. After it was half cleared out it got better. Wait staff was disinterested and not very attentive and at times rude. Our water glasses were never empty so that staff was very good and polite. I would not go back. Too many other restaurants with good food and pleasant wait staff.

But I would warn friends that there might be only one server. We waited a pretty long time to be seated, have them take our order, and to check in on us for refills.

This is a great place for dining with a group--the restaurant is conversation friendly and there is a large selection of entres. The service is attentive but not intrusive. I will be back!

My favorite restaurant in Hyde Park!

Any of the chicken or seafood dishes are great. I am not a calamari person so I have no experience in that but the chicken or salmon are great!!

We took our son there after the Museum of Science and Industry. Food was good, place was clean, servers were great

Piccolo Mondo offers excellent food in an unassuming, comfortable setting. It is both a wonderful neighborhood place for Hyde Park and a treat for fine dining. It is more like a place one would find in Europe than in the U S.

not italian food very bland staff is alright when they wanna be the prices need to go down

The menu was vast—-which may be why every dish couldn’t hit its mark. The calamari fritti was excellent; the eggplant parmigiana, just so so. The white fish was good but not great. The linguini vongole excellent. The service was superb. I’d say to the chef “focus”, show us the cuisine for which you have passion.

We went to the Chicago science and industry museum in Hyde park with my son for his birthday and I was looking for a nice Italian restaurant nearby since he is attending college in Chicago This was the perfect hidden gem right near the museum. We got there early so be aware that if you are seated make sure the waiter marks your reservation down so you get credit on Open Table since we made reservations ahead of time and it wasn’t notated The food was great we started out with calamari. My son and I had a seafood pasta which was wonderful and my husband had the salmon special that he also really liked I had a cannoli and my husband had spumoni gelato Everything was very good and I would go again if I am in the area ! Also the ambience is very nice and there is little bakery when you enter

Excellent dining experience at my favorite restaurant in Hyde Park. They allowed me and my guests from Italy to remain peacefully for three hours of wonderful conversation among good friends.

I take all my guests here no complaints ever food, drinks and ambiance are great
