Piccolo Cafe - Amsterdam Ave
It is our mission to serve you the best Prosciutto, Mozzarella, Burrata, Gnocchi, as well as delicious paninis and desserts.
Juansetter (Escaping in the City: A Taste of Real Italy) said: “Every other item has truffles/truffle oil in it, and every third has prosciutto or Parmigiano Reggiano. And none of it is the heavy saucy, fried stuff that you find in most New York Italian restaurants; rather, this green café goes for the fresh, healthy, Mediterranean feel that we love about Italy."
"That's probably because the owners - and, indeed, the guy behind the counter - are actually from Italy. Ciao!”
Piccolo offers daily and one-off special deals.
My Birthday dinner was just perfect!
This is our favorite restaurant in all of NY. The food is consistently outstanding, the servers are wonderfully friendly and fast, and the ambiance is chic and understated. We’ve celebrated many special occasions here, and also casually dined here. I highly recommend the gnocchi Gorgonzola!!!
Got there and was told that Open Table overbooked. 3 couples were turned away when we were there.
The restaurant is very small and quaint. They had to turn away customers because of the amount of tables they had. They do try to turn over their tables quickly. The food is delicious! I order the pasta with artichoke and truffles. It was our favorite!
Always a neighborhood favorite for us!
Loved our visit. Tiny restaurant so you are sitting close to the table next to you, but makes for a cozy feel. Great food at great prices. Drinks were good as well. Will definitely come back
We have been there a few times. This time was meh. Food wasn't as good as usual, service was terrible, the bread was stale (we had to ask for the bread), a server kept walking by us to a rack directly behind us with dirty dishes. It was really distracting.
We were underwhelmed by Piccolo and had a difficult time understanding the high rating. The space is tiny as are the tables - extreme even by NYC standards. The place appears clean but has a dirty, warn out feeling to it - looks like a former pizza place not really designed for a sit down meal. The food we had was only OK by NY standards for Italian and, for what we had, seemed overpriced. We've had better for the same or slightly higher prices at dozens of UWS Italian restaurants that had a much better feeling to them. Service was uninformed and not all that interested.
Very small, reservations are a must! Well worth any additional wait time. The food was very good, the experience and cozy atmosphere is one to be remembered! Thank you Piccolo!
We both enjoyed the food...Waiters were very nice and accommodating.
The food was pretty good, however, the service was not good at all. They did not have the wine I ordered and came over with a different bottle and very casually mentioned that they were substituting it AFTER I pointed out that it was not the wine on the menu. They brought over the wrong appetizer twice! The food was good. Not big portions. Took forever to get a refill on soft drinks. Very tight space.
Great food and service as always, we have been going here for at least 8 years and are never disappointed.
Piccolo is my new favorite restaurant. Chef Gianlucca’s passion for his dishes comes through with every bite and is only matched by his charm and the charm of this UWS find.
I can deal with small spaces, cramped tables, uncomfortable seats, and mediocre food. What I can't deal with is poor service.
The place was Tiny, which isn't surprising or a negative in the area it was in . The seating was uncomfortable, which again is fine, but the food was mediocre at best. The soup was 15 dollars a bowl for nothing even bordering on special. The lamb in my Lamb was extremely overcooked but the pasta was fine and my wife's order was okay. The waiter, however, wouldn't know because he didn't bother to ask. Maybe he didn't ask because he was too busy avoiding us so he didn't have to refill our drinks. Often we would see the server standing in front ignoring more than just us so at least we didn't take it personally.
There are many, many fine places to go in New York; this is not one of them
We had a tasty pre-theatre dinner at Piccolo on Amsterdam. Fresh pasta, great ambiance and super close to the Beacon Theatre. A rating in the window well deserved!
Delightful surprise! Although the restaurant is very small, the food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal!
Loved the ambiance. The place is pretty small, so it's better for a date night or at most a small 3-4 person group. I would recommend getting a reservation since it is easy to fill up at night for dinner, especially on the weekend. The short ribs were perfect - soft and easy to pull apart. The service could have been a bit faster, but since it is a smaller place, there was only two waiters, and one of them was mainly handling the drink service.
Friendly staff. Satisfying food. Pleasant music. Will definitely return.
Love this place but the small table could not fit our dinner plates across from each other and the tiny stools needed a little bit of padding. No big deal and will be back soon.
Small and intimate restaurant.....hard not to chat with the people at the next table! The staff was excellent and the chef came out to chat with us. Food was excellent
Restaurant is very cozy & warm. Wait staff friendly & knowledgeable of the menu. The chef is creative with food & flavors. He is also friendly & asks your opinion on what you ate. I can not wait to go back. Reservations advised, they only have 6 small tables & a small bar area. You will not be disappointed.
OpenTable and the restaurant do need better coordination or a review of the on-line reservation system. The staff was put in a tough situation as there was not actually a table, nor reservation to accommodate our group of 7.
Kudos to the manager and staff for re arranging tables to accommodate.
Quiet hole in the wall type of place with excellent creative food and service. Will definitely go again.
Behind the Beacon Theater. Nothing elegant or classy, but casual and fun.
Good food, service excellent. Chairs not very comfortable.
Went there on a fluke find off the Internet. heard some old friends were in the city and met them there. Nice small, cozy, romantic place... Great food, portions are fine, and great desserts and cappuccino...
Highly recommend it to any one looking for romantic cozy and warm service....
before the show at the Beacon its a Perfect location....
Great place.....My thanks to Owners and Staff for your Wonderful Restaurant...
Our reservation wasn’t ready, and someone had to offer to move so we could have a table. The wait staff seemed annoyed when we asked for things like an extra fork or water. They charged $16 for our daughters Spegetti with butter, same price as the Spegetti with sauce & meatball dish. They were cooking something that made all of our eyes burn, maybe onions. We live in the neighborhood and was looking forward to this but can’t say we are going back anytime soon.
Our table was small and right next to the kitchen. We were given the wrong appetizer and our pastas were bland and over cooked. Very little bread given and my debit card was dropped on the floor when they returned my check. Good thing I looked for it immediately. Their ineptitude did result in a free drink and free appetizer, but stupidity doesn’t get a good review. My search for authentic Italian food continues.
Feels like it s/b in an alleyway in Little Italy! Piccolo Café is a gem for locals looking for quick, but quality sit down Italian. Very tasty, fresh food at a good price but don't look to spread out (I've been in New Stands with more room)! Décor not worth rating (there is no décor :)
Piccolo is a small, sparsely decorated and cozy place (seats fifteen or twenty at most) that serves very good Italian dishes. It is reminiscent of some of the smaller places in Italy, where the attention is on the food rather than the “atmosphere.” The staff are friendly and responsive. Great spot for a bite before a show at the Beacon, or just if you want some really good food in a casual setting. This was our first visit. It won’t be our last.
Could be better . Eggs were tasteless and flat. It was just okay. Not good if you’re in a hurry.
Went before show at the Beacon Theater. Had special home made Ravioli and Pasta with Vodka sauce. Both were excellent. Place is very small but I would recommend it.
Very enjoyable. Good food. Friendly helpful staff.
Small & cozy.
Great option before a show at the Beacon. It is a very small space with a limited number of tables. As such it has a small staff and small kitchen so the service can be a bit spotty. That said the food is delicious and well prepared.
Cozy - small place with creative - delicious - well presented food - can’t wait to go back!
Best last minute find and amazing food. I can't wait to go back
I had the Penne a la vodka with Salmon. It was heavenly.
The food was great! A tiny restaurant with a big, delicious menu.
From what I could remember, it was terrible. It’s a small and cozy place. Dinning and bar are super small, defiantly make a reservation, the gnocchi was very tender- the tomato sauce was a bit too acidity for my liking.
Got alone to this tiny Italian gem due to a friend advice, best advice for a comfort Italian meal and amazing bellini, had a great brunch at the counter , all the waiter were smiling and kind they made my day and today they were shaving fresh truffle from Italy
