Philly G's is an authentic Italian eatery set inside a multi-level renovated house. It features multiple dining spaces as well as an outdoor patio for guests to enjoy when the weather is nice. In addition to its traditional dishes, Philly G's offers an extensive wine list for guests to choose from. The restaurant features live entertainment on many evenings.
Begin the meal with a basket of fresh Italian bread along with an appetizer like burrata over heirloom tomatoes with pesto and balsamic vinegar or a hot bowl of minestrone soup. Try classic entrée dishes like eggplant parmesan, salmon puttanesca, gnocchi with broccoli and chicken saltimbocca. Each entrée dish at Philly G's is served with a cup of soup and choice of side.
Had a lovely time and enjoyed the food. Unfortunately this past Saturday was their last night open. Will be missed!
We can always count on above average Italian fare at Phiily G's - we've been coming here since it was Gilardi's - and the food and service was as good as expected. The location of our table near the kitchen door was less than optimal and this particular experience was a bit disappointing because of the ambiance (or lack thereof).
Food is ok. However, service is extremely slow.
Bread wasn't served after our appetizer was finished. After we asked for bread, it took about 10 min for the waitress to serve it.
After we finished dinner, we asked for the wine menu, it then took the waitress another 10 min to get the wine menu. She was busy with a couple of other tables and we finally got the wine menu after we reminded her about it.
We have been there many times. The food was just fair this time and the service was aweful
We think the restaurant needs some refurbushing. It is looking very tired.
The service degraded as the evening went on. We had a similar experience the last time we were there. I found the menu pricey for the quality of the food. We did enjoy the porch setting.
waitress refused to issue separate checks until management stepped in.
Consistently delicious food. Calamari appetizer is a great value. We've never been disappointed at Philly G's.
Let me start with a positive comment. My wife's filet mignon dinner was very good. However, my bacala (sic) dinner was terrible. I ordered this dish with great anticipation because I had it before at Phily G's and it was the best codfish dinner I had ever had--and I've had it many times before in New England. The codfish dinner I had recently at Phily G's was the worst! The codfish was partially raw and the potatoes were undercooked. The whole dish looked like it was made days before and was just warmed up and served. The complimentary dessert really didn't take the edge off my disappointment with my dinner.
Good was fair
I have been here before and always enjoyed the food. This night however my husband complained the there was to much garlic in the Veal Piccata. I had the Seafood Diavola, some of the seafood was cook to perfection but the shrimp and lobster over cooked. We will give them another try because of past experiences
I've dined here several times over the years and always liked the old school, romantic ambiance, menu offerings and quality of food. Things must have gone down hill the last year or so. We dined at 5:30 on the way to Ravinia. The hostess seated us on the indoor terrace, alone, where we were forgotten about for about 15 minutes. A bus boy finally came with water and bread and he said a server would come. I went to the hostess desk to ask for a waiter. They did apologize, but oh well. The waiter was pleasant. The soup was cold and the salad had brown spots, but we were hungry/hurried and picked through the salad and left the rest. When we mentioned something to the bus boy who collected the plates and the hostess who also came back to check, no one seemed to offer an apology. We thoroughly enjoyed the spinach tortelacci in gorgonzola cheese sauce. The Pork Chop Gilardi was butterflied, bone in, breaded and tasty. My boyfriend's steak was average. I've had better meals and better service here years ago, what happened?
The terrace view is lovely. Tyler our service did a great job. Food was very good. Very nice evening
Food not as good as I remembered. I had shrimp which was very chewy. Salad was delicious.
Servers seemed to be in a rush. It wasn't very busy so I'm not sure why they did this. They even cleared the table completely taking my water while I was still drinking it.
I hope this visit isn't a view of future visits. I'm not ready to write Philly G's off yet. I've had too many wonderful meals to give up so quickly.
Dinner was delicious. Ross, our waiter, was helpful, honored our requests and attentive. We had seafood dishes. They were outstanding.
Have been driving by Philly G's so many times and saw the Groupon to finally try it out! Sat on the enclosed porch and enjoyed celebrating our anniversary! The pork chop Gilardi was excellent and my husband enjoyed the meat ravioli... The restaurant is within an 100 year Victorian home, which made it interesting. Service was excellent!
Been to Philly G's many times over the years. Have to say a little disappointed on this visit with the service. Our waiter disappeared for 20 minutes at a time and seemed more interested in other tables than ours.
Restaurant is very good. Olive oil is outstanding. Waitress was very attentive to our table. Enjoyed the food.
Will never go there again. Took 20 minutes for a server to come to our table. We ordered the appetizer special only to have a bug on the plate. When we finally found the waiter, and asked for manager, he was so unprofessional. Said that's what happens when the back door is opened, bugs come in. "you should have seen the spider last week!". the wine my friend ordered was "old". smelled old. The owner never came back! We left! Bathrooms were also unclean.
Reservations on time, check! Service very good, check! Food great, check! Requested seating on the veranda, that was where we were seated. Enjoyed the evening very much. Already looking forward to our next dinning experience there.
The flavors and smells are wonderful. We ate outside to take advantage of the weather. We usually have at least one of the daily specials and have yet to be disappointed.
I have been there many times before and have always been happy with my dinner and service. This time the service was the worst I have ever had. I don't think I will be back.
Salad leaves were not looking good. I ordered chicken parm and the flavor was poor and chicken was tough.
were awesone! Didn't know we could have requested porch seating when making reservation. That would have been perfect.
Disappointed in the food and the price. I got the Chicken Gilardi. Ended up mushy in
Gravy. Husband got sausage rotini which at least had some flavor.
I would not go back.
Thought the food was mediocre; overpriced...and don't get me started on the accessible access. The only worse entrance would be through the kitchen while passing the garbage cans. I regret bringing our friend utilizing a walker to endure such a humiliating experience.
It's a shame the restaurant does not make note of a failure to comply with ADA.
What a disappointment. The food tasted terrible. $28 for shrimp scampi with 4 large shrimp. What a ripoff. Husband only ate a quarter of it. Said it had a weird taste. Daughter's vodka sauce ravioli tasted bad. she didn't finish it. My minestrone was not good. They had complimentary valet parking. He parked our car two spots from the front door. And of course you have to tip him, even though we would have parked further for the exercise. Just stupid, though he was a nice guy. Our waiter was nice but a bit chatty. Olive Garden's food is half the price and tastes soooo much better. Sorry to be mean, but when you spend $100 on dinner you expect it to be much better than this was. Would not go back. Much better and cheaper Italian food at Olive Garden, Biagi's, even Dover Straits.
I had been to Pilly G's for lunch with friends a year ago. Food was good. This time for dinner with husband. Very disappointed. Ambiance was nice--requested "porch" and got it. The bread was so dry as if in warming oven waaay tooo long and hard all around and not even Italian as one would expect. My bone in pork chop was not bone in and was pounded so thin, absolutely no moisture left. I had to ask for applesauce to go with it to cut the dryness. I only ate half. Potatoes were definitely not hot and were also dry. Husband had chicken saltimbocca-very good. We were disappointed--will not return.
Our server was very friendly and accomodating to our needs -
but he was very hard to find! Our meal lasted a lot longer than usual...
Always friendly and welcoming. Giambotta is outstanding - have tried this in many Italian restaurants and Philly G's Giambotta can't be beat!! Their fried shrimp are huge and delicious. Soups are very good, also. Leave room for coffee and their 7-layer chocolate cake! Service is always good.
We went to PhillyG's for a Father's Day eve dinner. The food was very good, hats off to the chef. Our server was very unattentive, which was surprising because the restaurant was not crowded at all. The rest of the staff seemed on their game. The restaurant itself needs some updating and the facade could use a good powerwashing.
Reserved a table at the edge of deck 3 days in advance at a time the restraunt said was available, But when I got there I had trouble even getting a table on the deck a 1/2 hour later
The food was kind of cold for my taste almost room temperature . Soup tasted salty. We got filet minion and Parmesan crusted salmon. it was ok.
The restaurant was packed. Service was very slow. However if you are not in a hurry the food is worth the wait. We started out with the calamari appetizer: half grilled and half fried. Huge portions that were delicious. The grilled was a bit better. I had the salmon special. Very generous filet cooked to perfection. My wife ordered the rolled egg plant but asked if they could also wrap it with veal. The chef came to our table and explained what he could do to satisfy her request. It turned out fabulous. We ended the night with key lime pie and a big lemonchello cordial which was about 3 ounces. Terrific dinner albeit a 2+ hour experience.
I love eating here but it is pricey. Great food and great service. Love their steaks.
Excellent place we will be back again
The food and service were vey good! Love the fact that we could talk to each other, as the noise level was low. Only reason I took points away was that prices were on the high side for pasta dishes. Also, my husband had to pay an additional $3 to get the vegetable of the day, green beans. We mentioned it was our anniversary but there were no perks for that. Too bad...even just a free cup of coffee would have been appreciated.
Needs renovation; the food outshines the ambiance which is really needing an update; the service tries to be more upper class but just doesn't match with a magician or screaming kids in the same room. Should be more casual if orienting to a family restaurant. Food was excellent however.
This is my last visit there. Food was fair. I had my left overs boxed up and the waiter left half of what was left not in the box to my surprise the next day.
We have eaten at Philly G's several times and this time was before going to the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre. I have to say that dinner was much more enjoyable than the play, which we abandoned during the intermission. The service was good as was the food. We will definitely eat at Philly G's again.
