Phillips Seafood - Atlantic City Ratings and Reviews
The look and feel of the restaurant is different in a good way. It's open feel, design elements and ambiance create a desire to look around and enjoy different views. The staff is friendly and caring without being annoying. Unfortunately, the food is lacking. Our appetizer of crab, artichoke and spinach dip was delicious but our main courses were bland and tasteless. I ordered the fried seafood platter which has fish, shrimp, crab cake and fries. The crab cake was probably the best item but I've had better from several other places. The fish had zero flavor. My wife ordered fish (I can't remember what exactly) and she was equally disappointed.
This place has 5 star prices with 1 star taste.
Not only is the food great at Phillips, but the service is outstanding. My girlfriend and I drive to Atlantic City from Delaware to patronize Phillips. On this last occasion there is a certain type of chicken wing that my girlfriend loves, but it's off the menu now. They were very accommodating and made that adjustment so it will be a special night for her. Not many restaurants will put something on the menu that has been taken off, but they did it because it was special for her.
Stuff sometimes happens, but a lot of it happened at my dinner at Phillips in Atlantic City on Oct. 16. First the waitress arrived at my table with several glasses of wine, one of which fell over, dumping wine all over the next table (but fortunately missing me). Then the oysters on the half shell went MIA. I did like the Caesar salad and the shrimp scampi over pasta entree, however, and would recommend them.
We had a very nice meal overlooking the ocean but also open to the walkway to another restaurant so a bit of passing foot traffic. Food was great and we enjoyed the current special of 6oz filet mignon and a 6oz lobster tail or 1/2 lb snow crab legs for $19.95!!! Sides are extra if wanted but this price was amazing for the quality of food you got. Regular menu prices are high than we normally spend so may not return only for that reason. Mom added $3 asparagus which she loved and I had crab mac and cheese for $8 which was very good even tho a bit rich! Our server was very nice and all servers help out and were very attentive. It's off season so a busy time could be different but overall we were pleased with our "splurge."
We were really disappointed. We've been dining at Phillips Restaurants since the 1960s when they only had a location in Maryland. The restaurant has really gone down hill. They used to serve fresh, high quality seafood but the crab in our crab cakes tasted fishey and was spoiled. The crab cakes themselves had more filler than actual crab meat and came burnt. Phillips used to have great crab cake but these were more filler cakes.
Made reservations for me and my wife back in September for a special birthday dinner for my wife and I for Thursday night at 730pm on10/5/17, my wife ordered the shrimp scampi and asked to substitute scallops for the shrimp ,$10 up charge(a little pricey) and I ordered the fried seafood combo which was pretty good until I tasted your world famous crab cake (absolutely cold!!) and needed to send it back TWICE!!! by a waiter who I had to walk around and find TWICE!!! my wife received a free slice of cake with a candle (I guess because it was free it was suppose to compensate for the cold crab cake I sent back TWICE!!!) apology was given by the hostess but no one offered anything off the bill. While the food was good the experience was very disappointing considering that it was supposed to be a special night for my wife and a little to pricey for the service, I’ve been to Phillips restaurant before in a different city and had a better experience and better food, i don’t think I’ll be going back to Phillips in A.C. anytime soon.
While the food was good, it was certainly over priced. I dined with three other friends and we all agreed the portions were small and not worth the price. Our server was attentive and helpful. I would recommend going for happy hour or when they are running a special.
I went with the Rib Eye steak and ordered the Lobster Tail add on , the Steak was delicious, the Lobster Tail came out cold and was sent back, the second tail was warm but for $20.00 it wasn't even as large as my neighborhood supermarkets 4.99 tails. Very disappointed with the Lobster tail
We both ordered the Sea scallops and shrimp and it was delicious. The waiter was very attentive friendly, replaced drinks quickly. He talked us into dessert. We had the chocolate lava cake with ice cream. I would recommend that it was very good. We were sat with a great view of the beach/ boardwalk. I would recommend requesting a table with the view. I was on a second date and it was perfect for that occasion.
Very average food for too expensive of a price. Nothing special here. Wouldn't go back or recommend. Over cooked my fish with my chips and there was zero dressing on the coleslaw. How can you mess up coleslaw? Way too much salt on my wives scallops and risotto.
Food was excellent, service was good and price was very reasonable. The only issue was that when we asked about any specials, we were told there weren't any. Luckily, we saw a sign in the walkway that advertised a surf and turf special. This was neither listed on the menu or mentioned to us by the server. We shouldn't have had to ask about it. We both ended up ordering it.
We had 6:30 reservations for four and were seated although only two of us were there. The waiter was very accommodating when we asked to move to a less sunny table. The waiter was very polite and change us the option of waiting for our two friends or order drinks before they arrived. All four of us ordered the $19.95 surf and turf special. The meal was cooked exactly as requested and it was delicious. The view is spectacular of the Atlantic Ocean and the AC beach. This was our third visit and just like the previous two everything was perfect. We will be going back again.
Very disappointed in food and service. My husband and I were celebrating a special occasion during our vacation to A/C. We love Phillips Seafood in Ocean City Maryland so we had no doubts about making reservations in A/C. We ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer - which were delicious. For our entrees, my husband ordered the broiled combination seafood platter and I ordered the lobster & filet special. When our food arrived it was cold, slightly warm at best. The seafood platter was very small in portion. My filet was ordered medium and was prepared well done, the lobster was chewy and flavorless and served with drawn butter instead of the browned butter I requested. Our server never stopped at our table to see how our food was (even though she was taking orders at other nearby tables). We had tickets to a show and did not have time to wait for our server or have the food prepared properly. Even though I requested that nothing be done about the meal the server did remove my meal from the bill. Needless to say I was very disappointed and will not be returning to Phillips in A/C and possibly Maryland.
Had reservations for 8:15. We arrived around 8 and were seated right away. We ordered drinks and an appetizer right away. The appetizer came out in a timely fashion and the food came out fairly quick. The food was outstanding. It was a great experience and we will recommend and we will be back.
Server was friendly, but some of the order came out incorrect. Wasn't fixed til meal was over. Value to portions was terrible & food was incredibly oily and flavorless. I am amazed this restaurant has been around as long as it has. If you are considering dining here my advice to you is skip it, wish we had.
