Phil Trani's Ratings and Reviews
I had the halibut and it was tasty and fresh. It was cooked to perfection and very moist. Vegetables served with the meal were well seasoned. The only criticism I have is that the salad that comes with the entree is a little boring. Only lettuce and dressing. Cucumber, tomato, etc. could have added so much
Loving our last minute decision for an anniversary dinner celebration at Long Beach's oldest school restaurant, Phil Trani's
Back lit menus and back lit bill folders
Being the youngest couple there
Hendrick's martinis, dry, olive
Super Colossal Shrimp cocktail with ketchupy cocktail sauce
New England Clam Chowder with soda crackers
Frequented this restaurant when working in that area and was always impressed. I arranged a retirement dinner for one of our clients. Everyone who joined was very impressed. The service was exceptional and the variety of our appetizers and dinner selections would appeal to everyone's taste buds. Upon opening the menu it was a first for all of us. The menu lights up and eliminates the need for phone flashlight that sometimes we have to use at other eateries.
A gem of a place.
The place was okay but I wouldn't recommend it. I had to seafood dish there was more broth then seafood or pasta and someone else had the steak ordered medium-rare came out well well cooked. It took a long time to be served drinks and food but the check came before we even finish the desert
I absolutely LOVE this restaurant for it's amazing food and fantastic drinks. On certain nights they have entertainment or Wine dinners and those make your experience even better. This is a long time establishment that has both indoor, outdoor and bar seating.
Extremely disappointed with everything from the watery ranch salad dressing to the over salted halibut to the filet which I know was not filet. Maybe strip if you're lucky which was overlooked. The microwaved two pieces of broccoli were cold and there was a couple at another table who definitely needed a room. Not the experience I hoped for.
We have been to Phil Trani's several times and we always have a good time. It's a great local restaurant, full of sports memorabilia which is fun to look at. The restaurant is nice, but not stuffy. Our server was friendly and the food was excellent. The final bill was very reasonable. They had a fun band playing in the bar, and we thought about staying for a bit to listen but had to get going. We were celebrating my parent's 49th anniversary and Phil Trani's was perfect!
Our family get together was comfortable at Trani's. We like the comfortable seating and relative quiet. There were several seafood specials on the board, and we all picked something there. Broiled Halibut was adequate but very expensive--$33 for only adequate. Baked potato also fine. Salad fresh and crisp. Side veggies fine. My dad's lentil soup was pushed away uneaten. He said it did not taste good and was lukewarm. My sister and I had glasses of Wild Horse Pinot Noir which I enjoyed. Overall, I would give the food a lukewarm rating--to go with my dad's soup--because, given the prices, the ingredients and preparation are just so-so. Love the relaxed atmosphere in the dining room, the well-lighted menus and attentive wait staff. I think our waitress was a little inexperienced--didn't know much about some of the entrees and had to come back to confirm some choices we'd made. But she was very personable. When I'm in Long Beach, if our dad wants to come back, I will.
After years of driving by this establishment, I finally made reservations and checked them out. I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonably-priced and varied menu. Their Center Filet Cabernet steak was perfectly cooked and full of flavor from the crumbled bleu cheese and cabernet reduction. This was served with a baked potato and vegetables (which were perfectly cooked). Their wine list is respectable and the pricing reasonable. On the night we were there (Friday), they had a roving magician that entertained the tables with his slight of hand. We are certainly looking forward to many more dining out evenings at Phil Trani's.
I hope it was just a bad day for the restaurant, but the customer service was below par and my order was not filled correctly due to the "computer winning that day" according to the waitress, who not once told us what was going on for the 50 mins we waited for our meal. We ordered 2 flat iron steaks medium, one came in rare, the other well done. Other steak plate, can't recall which one, but also ordered medium and came well done. Although tasty, it's not what we had ordered. I also ordered the lamb special for the day, ordered medium, it came pretty well done. I believe our ordered rested way too long, because it wasn't that warm once received and clearly overcooked. The rare steak that came in was too red for my co-workers taste but he had to wait additional 10 mins for his steak, which they apparently forgot and seem to have rushed to get it to our plate. Very disappointed since we work literally across the street . . . I wanted to love this place too.
One a more positive note, the servers were nice and well mannered, we were seated right away. Plating decent and the taste of the food was excellent.
Just lacked communication as to what was going on with our order and by the time we got our ordered, we had no time to complain as we sat for 1 hours during our lunch break.
Seven of my friends and I met at Phil Trani's to celebrate two of our birthdays and to have a girls night out. The ambiance was nice and quaint, the service and attention from the staff was excellent. The food was good. Ample pour of wine and great price. I will return, maybe take a date. The lounge was fun and lively, one of my friends even sang with the band, it was great fun for everyone.
Been wanting to try Trani's for a long time and our 20th anniversary was a good time to finally do it. We were so very pleased with every aspect of this wonderful restaurant. We are in our later years in life and it was a breath of fresh air to experience this wonderful restaurant. We will no doubt go there again and not wait for a special occasion!
Wonderful food, as always. Service friendly. Phil Trani himself stopped by our table and chatted for a few minutes. Then sent a magician over who really entertained and amazed us. Have been to Trani's many times and have never been disappointed in either the food or the service. It truly is a neighborhood gem. And they have some wonderful wines on the wine list.
Would recommend Trani's for any occasion, from "just dinner out" to a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary. You just can't go wrong with Trani's!
We found this place on OpenTable after flying into LA and checking into a hotel in Long Beach. We arrived for the last seating on a Sunday night and were welcomed graciously. Our 16yo was the youngest person there by about 50 years! We enjoyed delicious traditional Italian food, a very nice wine, and a leisurely dinner. It was very nice not to be rushed despite our late arrival time - other diners were still lingering over conversation when we left. The only shortcoming was courses that arrived out of order. This is an old school gem. Nothing flashy, just fine traditional Italian.
We are always looking for an"old fashion " restaurant. Comfortable booths, nice ambience, good service and a menu that has all the favorites ,e.g. rack of lamb, Italian choices, etc. The cocktails here are also generous. They also have music in the bar and sometimes dancing. It is nice to feel like a grownup again rather than dinning in a warehouse with tiny portions of strange food. The owner Phil comes around and chats at every table and is proud of his restaurant as he should be.
