Petty Cash Taqueria Ratings and Reviews
I brought 15 of my girlfriends to see my Comedian daughter perform at the ACME Theater.
Rachel was very pleasant over the phone and even came to check on us after we were all seated to just say Hi. Food was great, and we got in and out in pleanty of time to see the show.
The restaurant is great and the food is good but the service is terrible. This is the second time that our meal was essentially ruined by poor service from the same waiter.
When we sat down, the first thing I️ did was request a cup of hot water to warm a baby’s bottle. We finally got a mug of lukewarm water 45 minutes after we were seated, even though we repeatedly asked for it. (We were told that they don’t use hot water in the kitchen and that they had to boil it, which is ridiculous) it would have been faster to walk home, heat the bottle and come back. Besides that, the waiter essentially ignored us for the first 15-20 minutes, and when we were finally able to order he could barely be bothered to answer our questions about the menu. As we were ordering food for the kids, he assured us that food comes out really quickly. However it took nearly an hour to get 4 fish tacos while the rest of our order came out so haphazardly that we couldn’t really enjoy anything.
I️ could maybe understand his attitude if we had come in and made a mess or all kinds of unreasonable demands, but that wasn’t the case. We made a reservation, we ordered food for the table and tried to enjoy ourselves in spite of the fact that we were made to feel like we were annoyances.
This is the first time that I have been compelled to withhold a decent tip from a waiter. I’m usually inclined to be understanding and always give at least 20% of the bill, but not this time, especially since this is the second time that we have a bad experience with the same waiter. We left a tip, but only so that the rest of the waitstaff didn’t lose out because of him.
It’s reason enough to not go back to the restaurant, which is a shame
Menu is straightforward. Tacos are priced individually. The cauliflower nachos were interesting, never had anything like these before. They were topped with crispy kale and jalepenos. I liked them a lot. We had the mushroom quesadilla which was very good as well. It’s Mexican street food with a twist.
I love this restaurant! I live in Pasadena, but am always happy to make the drive to Hollywood to meet at this amazing place for drinks, dinner, whatever. The margaritas are so yummy! (Especially with the good stuff.) The octopus tacos and Kale nachos are to die for. Love!
We were a large group (11) celebrating a birthday. I have to first say the customer service was just outstanding. From accommodating a large group to making sure the birthday girl felt special and to talking to the hostess on the phone after we had to add a few more guests, everyone was just so wonderful. Food is really delicious especially the tacos. We had vegetarians in the group too so it was overall a crowd pleaser!
Food was excellent, yummy apps and good for sharing. Tacos were on the smaller side but delicious and included several vegetarian options.
Service was sporadic and inconsistent. For each drink or food order, they would bring them out 1-2 at a time and just yell out what the order was and leave it to our group to find the right person. Had a group of 10 so understand they maybe couldn't keep track of each individual person's order, but they didn't bring things of the same category out together - one taco was delivered 10 minutes before anyone else's, and not even all the same type were brought out together (all shrimp, then all carne, then another type etc) it seemed completely random. Not sure if it was lack of experience by the food runners or disorganization from the kitchen. Also had to ask for our waters to be refilled multiple times.
We had a birthday at the table and asked our waiter to put a candle in one of the desserts. After about 30 minuets of waiting without anyone coming by, he unceremoniously tossed it on the table along with a few other things, then disappeared without a word, and came back 5 minutes later with the rest of the desserts. We weren't expecting him to sing or anything silly, but a little more professionalism or enthusiasm would have been nice.
Restaurant itself is cool, mix of two-tops of friends and couples and large groups.
Amazing food for the price. Great service, only downside of my experience was the noise level. I could hardly hear myself, let alone my friend I was with. Not really anyone's fault but just take note when you're going. The atmosphere became a little too much for me.
