Pre-theatre and after work specials are available daily. Petterino's location is ideal for business lunches as well as a break from shopping or touring in the nearby State Street and Millennium Park venues. Pre-theatre diners have the option of leaving their car with Petterino's while they attend the show and can then pick it up after the performance is completed.
We came here before going to the Cadillac theatre. If you are seeing any show, this is hands down the best restaurant within the area. The food was delicious, atmosphere was great, and overall the service was good! Loved everything about Petterino’s and would recommend to anyone whether they are seeing a show or not.
Good place in Chicago's theatre district. Nice ambiance, good service. Food is fine but nothing great.
I was disappointed when I went for lunch before a play. I wasn’t in a hurry, but I felt rushed by the people busting tables. They were constantly coming around and asking if we were finished and asking if we were finished with the bread.
It was particularly noisy on Tuesday. Difficult to hear conversations. Don't remember this problem in the past because we love eating here?
Great waiter! He was very concerned bout getting us to the next door Goodman show on-time.
This is about as minor an issue as I've ever complained about but here it is. The Crabmeat Eggs Benedict was wonderful (but needed a bit more Hollandaise.) I got the requested extra and put it over the dish. Half of it was put into a doggie bag. When I got home, I found that not a trace of the sauce ended up in the container. A minor frustration to be sure. But there it is. Can staff be reminded we want all of the leftovers, and scrape a little more.
Went here for a nice dinner and I must say it was extremely nice. Food was excellent, service was quick and peaceful. Will definitely return next time I’m in Chicago.
Fine place to have a quick dinner before a show, but not outstanding. While we were seated right away, it took 10 mins for a waiter to come by. The soup of the day Chicken noodle was delicious. Chicken Parmesan was on the salty side and sauce was uninspired. Trout was very good.
The food and the experience was very good.
The food is excellent. Salad and especially the dressings are fantastic. Food is well-prepared and tasty. Service is not as attentive as it could be. This is the second visit and both time service was lacking in attention. This time our wine did not come out until we had our meals and asked where it was.
everything very good excellent service the food very well.
The ambiance was fun and reminiscent of Sardi's in New York. The food was great and our server was very attentive. We did the prix fixe menu and the food came out very quickly.
We are return diners at Petterino's and had another wonderful dinner! Cocktails and wines are varied and prices are fair. Their Caesar salad is as good as anyplace in the Chicago area! The chicken vegetable soup was excellent. My wife loved her salmon, and I went out on a limb to have the trout (which I never try,) and was rewarded with a delicious filet of tasty fish! Service was excellent, the ambience old school classic, and overall a great experience.
Except...my wife, whose birthday we were celebrating, was wished "Happy Birthday" three different times, and...nothing!!! Not even a cupcake. The takeaway? Don't celebrate anything there and expect recognition other than lip service.
Menu was varied enough to suit everyone’s varied tastes. The proximity to the theater is ideal. Value was typical for a downtown restaurant. Service was efficient but bordered on dull. I guess we like to have genuine interaction with the wait staff, but either he was tired or not interested as our inquiries were given brief and unenthusiastic answers. With so many options it may be a long while before we choose to eat here again.
We had the best server and our food was amazing! We all got the price fixed menu and we were so happy with our food. I recommend the crispy burrata and the chicken Armando
Excellent dinner. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and chose this restaurant for our “pre-show” dinner. The food was delicious. Their Prix Fixe menu had great options for a great price. The ambiance was nice. And they were playing top 40 music. Which was just fine by us. Overall we had a great experience and would gladly dine there again.
Great food and great service as always. Love the pre fixe menu for before theater dining.
Took my daughter there for her 16th birthday before going to see Hamilton. She loved the food and the environment. Thank you for making her birthday special!
Excellent food and service however the chicken and crusted Parmesan had too much cheese and was very very salty. Need a few more healthier items on the menu in today’s environment
Six adults seated in a booth which should have held four. Short ribs tasted like they had been sitting for a long time.
The new menu is horrible, a lot of old time favorites taken off, like country rigatoni, the wedge, the fritzel
I was disappointed this time. I've been there before, but this time I was not happy. We arrived ten minutes early for our noon reservation and were brusquely turned away until noon, even though there were open tables. It took 45 minutes to get our salad orders. That's excessive, but no apology. We asked for separate checks and were told it could take up to 20 additional minutes. Come on!
Bring back the fritzle salad!!! SO disappointed
Nice place to have a wonderful salad glass of wine and people watching; our waiter T** was fabulous!
Food was undercooked
But the manager was very helpful.
The kitchen needs an over haul
Also the menu is limited
Excellent food and the best server (DAN) ever! Parking is great for the theater in the surrounding blocks. Never disappoints - a solid choice for a great meal.
We arrived for our reservation on time only to have the manager hold up seating those waiting. We waited 20 minutes when there were clearly many empty tables. As a restaurant in the theater district they should know when the plays get out and have their wait staff there.
Food was very average, my chicken paragon was very tough. My wife had he put pie was lacking in taste, very ordinary. Appreciate a different approach but it missed it's mark.
The food was fantastic, great service, and they really accommodated the two kids with us (made a 1/2 order of a pasta not on the kids menu, brought more bread, etc).
Great location and good food. The service was attentive yet discreet.
We arrived early due to an added Metra train and still got to be seated early. We enjoyed the sliders with a cup of tomato soup. Nice to have brunch menu available. Crab cakes benedict was a nice change.
Service was very good but we did have 3 or 4 different servers stop.
We loved our first visit to Petterino's with friends! The service was friendly, yet professional. We enjoyed lunch before going to see the musical, Hamilton. Parking valet, was very helpful, especially considering it was the weekend of Lollapalooza! Always so much happening in Chi town! We will definitely make a return visit!
We like going to Petterino's before we attend the Sat. matinee or any other time we're in the Theater Dist. We like their food, but we wish they would put back some of our old favorites. However we can still find things we like and one of the best things is the fixed prixe section of their menu. This gives a first course, main course and dessert.
We were not seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. The waiter never came to take our order. I finally got the manager who took our order. The food was not served until 30 minutes after the order was taken. I had to find someone to pay the bill and we almost missed our theater time. Overall a very bad experience.
Our server was gone for long amounts of time and had no apology when he did show up. We ordered appetizers and dinner at the same time and specifically asked that the appetizer come out before the meal and guess what! They came out at the same time. The food took a really long time to arrive and you could tell it had been sitting in the kitchen for a while. Petterino’s has a great location and the outdoor seating on this beautiful summer evening was second to none, but that still isn’t enough to make me go back.
Went to petterino's for early dinner after play at Goodman. It is always reliable. Had old standbys tomato bisque, cheeseburger and hot fudge sunday and they were all as good as I remember.
Petterinos is a fun place to dine before a play. The ambience is quite theatrical with the celebrity caricatures all around. The service was very friendly and efficient. the bread was outstanding and food was good with a great selection including for children. The location is perfect for the theatre district.
We love Petterino's! What's not to like? The bartenders were super nice! Lunch was delicious and they even kept our leftovers for us until after the play. It's SO convenient to the theaters!
This review was for a dining experience on a weekday evening during showtime rush. I have dined in several of theatre districts restaurants at that time and I would say Petterino's is a place I would not dine at again at before a show. The place was very busy.
The food was OK for the price
The waiter was very polite
Even with reservations they still didn't seat me with 1 member of the party missing ( a pet peeve of mine.)
The menu was rather short on options with little creativity.
Drinks took almost 30 minutes to arrive.
Food took almost an hour to get the table.
Never got asked if we wanted even a second drink.
service was exceedingly slow.
all in all i think the price was mid range and the service and speed was on the low end. I would not repeat for a before show meal. I would consider going again at another time, but it would not be my first choice.
We really appreciated that our out of town guest could check her luggage as we were going to the theatre after lunch. Also a plus was the ability to leave our "doggy bags" to pick up after the show. A very efficient experience.
