Petterino's Ratings and Reviews
I work in the loop and have dined here many times. I always order the simply broiled white fish with broccoli and it has been delicious- except for my last two visits. The fish was dry, no flavor and clearly looked like a frozen piece of fish gone bad. This restaurant is so busy and bustling yet the decor is old and tired, the bar ceiling tiles are brown and gross from water damage. Get it together Lettuce Entertain You and Petterino's.
Dinner after Goodman Theatre show of A Christmas Carol ... after the Sunday matinee. Make sure you have a reservation - no walk-ins allowed that we overheard from the hostess stand. Foyer packed and uncomfortable with servers walking among waiting patrons to deliver food. Felt sorry for the servers - rushed and hustling all the time. Difficult to hear everyone at our table of 6. Food outstanding though. Salmon with teriyaki glaze typical and uneventful, but filling. Chicken parm again, typical, but filling. Would visit again due to location in the City, but definitely off Goodman Theatre hours.
The overall experience was wonderful. My wife and I have 2 lil kiddos and getting out on a date is something very special for us. From the attentiveness of the friendly waiter to our flow needs (we wanted to stretch everything out), to the amazing Manhattan's, to the food selection choices and tastes. The meal closed with some homemade Strawberry sorbet (highly recommend that) and one of the best Key Lime Pie's I've ever had (and it's my favorite dessert, so I've had a few in my time). The coffee hit the spot from Big Shoulders. All good and such a cool vibe
Our server & the food were very good but the check in was VERY disappointing! Our reservation was for 3:45 for 3 guests. The hostess told us she couldn't find our reservation & called another hostess who also tried looking but couldn't find it. It was very embarrassing. Because of the time the restaurant was pretty empty as the matinee hadn't gotten out yet from the matinee performance so there were plenty tables. We requested a booth but was told they are saved for parties of 6 which I understand for those in the main dining room. But the smaller booths in the aisle held smaller parties and where available but not offered so we were seated at a table. I didn't want to make a big deal about the smaller booths that they later sat parties of 2-3 at as I didn't want it to spoil our day. It was a very special day as my son was a former Tiny Tim at the Goodman Theatre & was invited to a Tiny Tim Reunion & to enjoy the evening performance Nov 18. As we have been coming to the Goodman Theatre & Petterino's for years we usually have a great experience. But this time the way we were treated was very unfortunate. When we were leaving & I mentioned to another host, the comment was, well you got a table didn't you? And was told that they don't always receive reservations from Open Table. That's news to me.
We took our young granddaughter to Petterino’s before we saw A Christmas Carol at the Goodman. Our server, Daniel, was so nice and kind to our granddaughter and gave her a special treat. We love that the restaurant is directly connected to the Goodman and that we can leave our coats and even our leftovers to be picked up after the show! Petterino’s is very in tune with the theatre schedule and makes sure we are finished in plenty of time for the show. We love Petterino’s and our granddaughter had a wonderful special occasion thanks to Daniel.
The atmosphere is good but it can get a little noisy. We went for dinner before a play. The waiter asked if we had tickets for a play and what time the play was which we appreciated. It got a little hectic when it was time to receive the check. We planned on ordering dessert but didn't have time as the waiter was busy with other tables.
We enjoy Petterinos every visit. The food is prepared and presented well. The fixed price menu is a nice feature especially for those having a meal prior to the theater. The staff always asks about your "plans" (i.e. theater, train to catch etc.) and reacts accordingly. Like almost every other restaurant these days the price of wine by the glass is outrageous. None-the-less an above average spot for a meal.
We met our niece for a quick birthday dinner while we were in town for a play. She was late but our server was so accommodating and even made sure there was a piece of cake with a candle for her, which we did not request. How nice! The place was packed with the theatre crowd but the staff just whizzed through it all. Food was delicious though on the high side cost wise. Nice drink selections too.
When in Chicago attending a play we always enjoy dinner here pre show. Prompt service and excellent food always. The wait staff always friendly, courteous, and professional and make sure dinner is a delightful experience with plenty of time to get to the theater. Always an outstanding dining event.
We ate here before heading to the theater. We were seated immediately, and our waiter was very cognizant of timing for us to leave for the show. We truly enjoyed our food, the trout and almond-crusted whitefish. We had the prix fixe dinners, a great value. We were seated in a booth which allowed us to talk easily; it wasn't too noisy. I came here once before and ate at the bar and had a good experience then, too.
Great place to go before the theatre. Yes you need reservations as it gets vey crowded. The bar is very nice but also very crowded. Food is good and not over priced.
Our waiter was vey attentive even though he was quite busy. He made suggestions and made us feel that he was glad we were there.
A pre show dinner with my daughter: the staff was very friendly and helpful. My daughter ordered the 5 cheese ravioli and the waitress offered a half order. I was not aware this was a option and it was the perfect portion. I got the filet and they both were fantastic. Also you have to get the peppermint ice cream.
Always a favorite with the pre-theater crowd, the service is geared to getting you to your performance on time. We were four, we all ordered something different, and we were all pleased. Cocktails are excellent and they have an excellent wine list. It's a big plus that you can leave your car with the valet until after dinner and theater.
It was incredible, the atmosphere just walking in was welcoming and friendly. The pictures on the walls were entertaining and it was neat to try and recognize the stars. The waiter was attentive and friendly offering lots of suggestions. My wife is celiac and they were more than accommodating, she said it was the best gluten free pasta she had ever had. If we lived in Chicago we would have been taking the leftovers home. Amazing meal, when we come back to Chicago we will return.
Our server was not friendly in the least! He never smiled, never made eye contact and really took away from the experience. Our bread basket contained one section of bread for four people. We watched as a table of two received a very generous portion of the same bread; probably twice as much as we received. Also, our ravioli was only "warm" and our green beans extremely undercooked. We sent the green beans back and they were replaced with extremely hot ones, which we did not eat because they too were undercooked. We asked for separate bills and the server made the decision to put the undercooked green beans on the wrong bill - he did not ask!
The food was good, just the entire experience left us disappointed.
