Pre-theatre and after work specials are available daily. Petterino's location is ideal for business lunches as well as a break from shopping or touring in the nearby State Street and Millennium Park venues. Pre-theatre diners have the option of leaving their car with Petterino's while they attend the show and can then pick it up after the performance is completed.
our waiter was excellent..very friendly and attentive
Petterino’s is always good. Great location in the theatre district, valet parking, good food, good service. One of my favorite Lettuce Entertain You locations.
Great restaurant for pre-theatre. Good food, nicely prepared, generous portions and nice service. Mediocre coffee. What happened to the Fritzel salad?
Went for pre theatre dinner. Food was good. Service was great.
Wonderful service, atmosphere, and product! Our server was knowledgeable, accommodating, and fabulous. Can’t wait to return on our next trip to Chicago!
We loved the booth in which we were seated. The waiter was attentive and made sure we could get to the theatre in good time. We both loved everything we ordered.
Petterino's is a great Chicago standard for downtown lunch or pre- and post- theatre. If you haven't been there before, check out the huge collection of signed celebrity line drawings along all the walls. Great fun.
The food is good, and on our most recent visit, at 1 pm to avoid the most intense part of the weekday lunch rush, the service was exceptionally prompt and excellent. Staff are welcoming and helpful to newcomers and old-timers alike.
While vegetarian items are not in abundance, I have always found them to be accommodating in making adjustments. This has also been the case for companions with special diets or food allergies.
There is a great energy, and great tradition, in this place.
Although Petterino’s isn’t cheap, the food and service is outstanding!
We picked Petterino's on the fly because we wanted to eat Italian in Chicago. This was our first trip to Chicago and I'm glad to say that we loved our experience at Petterino's. All of the food including appetizers, main course and dessert were absolutely delicious. Our server was also top notch. We will definitely be visiting Petterino's again on our next trip to Chicago. We loved the city and will be back!
Great food and fun atmosphere.
Good food, good service, great prices, great atmosphere!
Good food. Good service. Always loud but that’s a given.
The walls are barnacled with framed caricatures of celebrities, living and long dead, giving the place a 50's retro vibe....but in a good way. The menu has American and Italian standards, nothing trendy or adventurous, but everything our large group ordered was good to excellent, especially the steak frites. Service was friendly and suitably prompt. Favorite thing about this place...with entrees mostly in the $20's to low $30's price range, this is the most reasonably-priced restaurant I know of in the downtown theater district. Worth a visit, would go there again.
This was our first time at Petterino's, suggested to us by a friend of ours. I'm glad we made reservations as the restaurant was empty when we arrived and almost completely full within 30 minutes. The characatures will keep your eyes wandering all over the restaurant. The atmosphere was great, dim-lit lights in each booth, music at just the right volume so you could hear it but not drowning out the crowd. Excellent service, friendly waitstaff and fantastic food. We will be back.
The chicken parmesan was absolutely mouth watering. Our server was wonderful as well. Thank you for making our evening perfect.
Our “go to” restaurant when we are in Chicago for theatre! Even though it was super busy, we were seated right at the time of our reservation....very efficient. The food quality is exceptional, and so is the service. We will definitely be back!
Petterino’s is our go-to pre-theater restaurant. I ordered the prix fixe menu & choose Caesar salad, which was very fresh and delicious. For my entree, I chose asparagus risotto, which I cannot recommend. It seemed to be lacking flavor, and I think it needed to be cooked with Parmesan cheese added to it. The shaved Parmesan on top (3 shavings) were not enough. My dining partner ordered the roasted branzino and loved it. She said it was cooked to perfection. I wish I had ordered it. For dessert, we chose the peppermint ice cream sundae and the vanilla ice cream sundae, both of which came with warm chocolate sauce. There is a good, varied wine list.
Table alittle too close together. Very very loud!!!
Keep the peppermint ice cream. It’s great and hard to find
If one needs to find a place in the vicinity, it would be ok, but nothing to write home about. Food is pedestrian and average, sense of mass production. My seafood salad was a disappointment, the chilled shellfish was dry and tough.
My guest and I both ordered calamari as our entrees, but I ordered soup. Another server brought out a cup of soup but, he brought out the wrong one, and exchanged it very quickly. I was also pleased when our server apologized for the mix-up. This showed he was aware of everything involving his table section. Also, We were seated outside, and, I want to commend our server Teddy, who noticed we were being swarmed by bees and immediately saved us by moving us to an inside table. I really appreciated his attentiveness and obvious desire to ensure our meal was not spoiled by mother nature. As usual our food was prepared perfectly.
We've been enjoying Monday Night Live since it's inception !
Brava's, Bravo's & Kudo's to all! Especially Denise McGowan-Tracy. Denise is such a supportive force for Chicago's entertainment industry. "Hat's off!"
Paula is a GEM! Please let it be known! Every venue should have someone just like Paula.
David Aaron & Johnny Bash (Performers & patrons)
It had been our favorite restaurant. But, my wife and I were disappointed almost immediately. The hostess was under-dressed. Surprisingly, the person who sat us was as well. The waiter was unusually not friendly. Most disappointing, the steak we always order, while cooked well, was swimming in an awful, perhaps tomato-based sauce, rather being served with simply its juices. Now we have to find a new favorite restaurant downtown.
Once seated, everything was wonderful. The waiter whose name is Daniel Smith was so attentive. The food - chicken/red bean soup, branzino - wow! The only negative was the check-in process - I was treated as if I were a burden, not as a welcome guest.
Wonderful experience. Food was amazing. I ordered the crab cake benedict (soooo gooooood). Everything was just great and will definitely be back and look forward to it.
Excellent service! Seated us a little early since we were seeing the show that night. Our waiter was very attentive but not hovering. Very easy to engage in conversation. Love the ambiance of the place. Food was very good. One of the top 3 crab cakes I have ever had. Caprese salad was excellent though I personally could have used more fresh basil. Complimentary dessert for first time diners was a nice unexpected surprise. Definitely coming back.
Its not as use to be portions are smaller and taste isnt good. it's been in this location for while now. but seems like new 'update' isnt successful.
Dinner before the Theater
Petterino's responds to their patrons' request. We dined after a matinee and told our server to take her time which she graciously did. Our meal was leisurely and enjoyable.
We were seated at table #75. It was perfect because one member of my group of three has severe hearing loss. She wears hearing aids. The location of table 75 was perfect for her to be able to engage in conversation without being overpowered by the environmental noise around us. She and I have three tickets for 5 matinee plays and always bring a friend. We also have lunch at Petterino's prior to every performance. To date, this was our best experience for hearing.
The waiter was very slow we asked for bread 3 times and received it when our meal was almost finished. Ordered the daily special steak was dry.
The food, from the bread to my entrée, was absolutely phenomenal. Genuine compliments to the chef. The menu is large and appealing and it’s difficult to decide what to get because it all looks great! Our Waitress was not particularly great. She was a little rude and not all that attentive. However, one of the gentleman that were keeping an eye out on all the tables need for refills on drinks and bread was absolutely awesome. He was very on top of things and efficient. Not to mention, he was very kind and look like he actually might’ve wanted to be there. He didn’t make us feel like an inconvenience as our server did. We tipped him.
I have been there many times we sat in a booth along the wall.) I will be back, but this was disappointing.
Wonderful experience at this restaurant with my group. They accommodated our group seating with no problem even as they came in bunches. The service was great- especially considering usually groups are a problem. The food is excellent. I recommend on all fronts.
We found this place because of Open Table reviews. We came in between showtime hours so we missed the rush. We had a fantastic meal and exceptional service from Daniel S.
It was very reasonably priced too.
I love Petterinos! Fabulous food and service. Delightful atmosphere and love the music they play.
Arrived 15 minutes early & were seated right away. Food was great, server was attentive. Nice ambience, a little loud but there was quite a few people dining so I'm sure that is hit & miss.
Great. Updated old school dining. Professional waitstaff. Great food. Lots of selection, not just Italian.
Delicious food. Impeccable timing. Seated immediately when we arrived. We were a party of five. We all ordered something different and each meal was perfect. Our waitress was the consummate server. And, she got us out in time for the symphony. Perfection.
We booked late for dinner before s play at the Goodman Theater next door. We had efficient, thoughtful service with excellent recommendations for food.
