We dined here with our nephew and his wife visiting from Switzerland. We'd been here before and chose it because it has been an island in DC's sea of noisy restaurants. It was perfect for this get together with good wine, food and relaxed conversation where we didn't have to strain to hear or shout. Highly recommended when this is your objective.

We ate brunch at PP on Saturday with a group and it was delicious. My husband and I needed a place for Sunday night dinner and close to our hotel. We decided to return to PP. Dinner was wonderful, the restaurant was busy and everyone was talking about how delicious their food was. It is a quick 5 minute walk from Marriott Wardman. We will return on our next DC visit.

Everything was great...except that the ventilation in the restaurant was either deficient or not working. The result was that my clothes and coat smelled like fried fish by the time we left. I had to leave my coat on my porch to air it out when I got home.

Petit Plats is a very pleasant restaurant for friends to get together. The dining room is small, so the general noise level never prevents us from good conversation. The food is creative French bistro, reasonably priced. We’ve eaten here three times and have never been disappointed. Last night all four of us wound up ordering cassoulet; huge servings, delicious and filled with tasty morsels. Duck is always a good choice, and the appetizers are very nice.
Our waiter this time was very friendly, attentive without being intrusive and made great suggestions.

My friend and colleague and I were looking for a place close by the Marriott Wardman Park, where we were attending a conference. We both love French food and decided to try this place because it was located across the street. We opted for a $35 prix fix menu of three courses that was delicious! We had a champagne and elderberry liqueur cocktail, a delicious lobster bisque soup, and a roasted chicken and french fries entree. For dessert, I opted for the chocolate mousse, which was rich and delicious, and my friend had a decadent bread pudding with an almond sauce to die for! The server was so kind and accommodating! He made the dining experience a wonderful one. It was a very quiet restaurant, which was perfect because we wanted to catch up. We attend this conference once a year so we wanted to discuss some business but also catch up on each other's families. It was just perfect! I highly recommend it!

3/4 of us enjoyed our food but the waitress was relatively non-existent. The room we were in was very small and quiet so I felt very self conscience talking amongst ourselves with a man eating closely next to me. Wouldn't return.

Elements of the food were really good, but there was an odd assemblage of parts in two of the dishes that made the whole, well, odd. Service was okay--mixing up plates and wines when there were a total of four guests at two tables in the restaurant struck us as sloppy. The wines by the glass were also more mediocre than not, with some of the blame appearing to go to pours from bottles that had been open too long. At least the quality of the wine made us less unhappy that the pours were so skimpy, although the waiter did offer a replacement for the glass that was clearly bad. Overall, we'd love to find a place like Petits Plats in the neighborhood that lived up to its cheerful and attractive decor, but there were simply too many misses in our meal for us to recommend it.

I selected this restaurant due to its location; boy was I glad I did. The ambiance is good, a "town home" right on Connecticut Avenue, next to a row of restaurants. The seating was prompt, a bit noisy due to the proximity of the tables but not bothersome at all. A warm welcome by the owner, with a quick offer of drinks. The octopus appetizer was superb, salad was fresh and tasty. The main courses of fish were perfectly cooked (Bronzino and Rockfish) and the accompaniments were delicious. Desert of three different sorbets were perfect. Overall, a wonderful dining experience at a reasonable (for DC!) price. We look forward to returning!

When I checked out the restaurant for a large group, it was so elegant and so subdued. Unfortunately, the night we went, almost every table was taken and they were understaffed so It's really not a fair assessment. Service wasn't up to par but only because of circumstances. Probably on an average night, it is great for a nice, quiet dinner in an elegant setting. However, there are several steps to climb to get in.

Recently visited Les Petit Plats and it is anything but "small plates." Petit Plats delivered BIG!
I had the escargots and the Bronzino. Everything was prepared beautifully. Excellent food, spices were subtle and not too much salt! We sat outside and had a lovely evening. Inside is cozy but very noisy. Would go there again and would definitely recommend. It's a neighborhood gem!

The foie gras is divine and all the rest of the food we tested was perfectly executed and tasty, satisfying the taste buds of this picky French reviewer (not picky eater, just picky reviewer!). Service was excellent. The wine selection could be improved. Sitting on the tiny upstairs patio, a bit removed from the street was perfect. The inside was quasi empty. We weren't tempted to sit inside as there is a strange musty smell to the place when you come in.

This restaurant does a great job on French cuisine. We had filet mignon with a peppercorn sauce that was excellent. For desert we had ice cream with chocolate sauce that was also very good. The service was attentive but not in your face. Since we ate early, it was not crowded although by the time we left all the tables outside were full. A very enjoyable meal, and we definitely plan to go back.

While we were impressed with the restaurant and menu, we were less than pleased with the noise coming from upstairs. Someone was moving furniture and chairs around so our dinner conversation was interrupted by the sound of chairs being dragged along a wood floor. Kind of killed the moment.

Our meal was great. One person had the Bronzino, one had the steamed mussels and I had the free range chicken. Everyone raved about their selections. The chicken was the best I have ever had. The frites are extremely habit forming. This is the closest you can come to great French bistrot food in D.C..

I love this traditional French Restaurant. It serves delicious, well prepared dishes with expert, courteous service. In addition to a limited but well chosen wine list, there is a full bar.
I began with a Manhattan, which was dry and delicious, and then had the onion soup as a starter, and the Moules marinières with french fries - which were thin, crispy and delicious, as was the french bread with olive oil dip. My friend is a vegetarian, and she was able to put together a satisfying supper with two starter salads. I was away from Washington for almost 8 years, and I am very happy that Petits Plats is still in the neighborhood - it is a favorite, and I will come often.

The food was extraordinary, the service attentive, and the ambiance sublimely cozy. We are foodies who have explored hundreds of restaurants in France, so our expectations are high. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of food and the delightful setting in what was once a home. Fred (the owner and Chef-de-cuisine), spent a lot of time at our table advising on dishes and was particularly helpful with the wine selection. I was leaning toward a 2010 Pomerol based mainly on the vintage, and he steered me toward a less expensive 2007 Bordeaux blend by Fronsac that was a delightful bottle with excellent structure and a perfect complement to the filet de boeuf. We liked the food and experience so much that we returned the next night to enjoy a meal as well prepared as the night before. On night two, we shared an apple tart avec vanilla ice cream for desert - it was well worth the calories! We will be back whenever we are in DC.

Nice small French bistro feel, with multiple small dining rooms - ours had a working fireplace, which was nice. Very good escarcot. The mussels were good, but not the best I've had - I prefer a richer broth. My husband had the rib eye, which was very flavorful and perfectly cooked.
