Everything was perfect! Food is to die for! The fire was gorgeous and so romantic. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Unfortunately, there were rude guests in the same room (demanded that fire should be turned off as one guy was hot) which was a bit unpleasant but restaurant staff was lovely and very attentive.
We would highly recommend this restaurant!
Great reliable traditional French dishes
Lynn and I have been fans of Petits Plats since not long after it opened, but it's been several years since we've had a chance to get back (I don't get to DC as often as I used to). Over the years I've been there for dinners, for group events, and its always been marvelous, but my favorite is probably going for a late long lunch when we can relax and linger over a bottle of wine. So we booked a 1:15 table on Monday. When we arrived, most of the tables in the little main dining room were still full with people finishing their lunches, but Edgar seated us right away. The room is bright and cheerful. Because of the chill in the air the fireplace was lit and gently warming. Lynn ordered the arugula salad and, of course, some mussels (mariniere). She says she forgets there's anything else on the menu because she always has mussels and they're always fabulous. (Edgar told us that they have mussels delivered every day, including Sunday, and examine them carefully before accepting the shipment. He says they'd rather tell people they're out of mussels than to serve something that wasn't up to their standard). I had escargot and the steak frites. The steak comes out sliced and perfectly cooked. The frites are some of the best that I've had anywhere. The wine was a delicious Burgundy that matched perfectly with the food. It was a wonderful experience. We weren't at all surprised.
First time at this neighborhood gem and our group of 5 very much enjoyed our dinner. We had a lovely table just by the fireplace on an unusually cold DC evening. The snails, duck confit, homemade fois gras terrine and beef bourguignon were wonderful. There is a reason that when done well these are such classic dishes. We were a bit disappointed in the crepes for dessert but otherwise had a great dinner. We would all strongly recommend this restaurant for locals and visitors staying in the nearby Omni Shoreham or Marriott.

Excellent food, as always, with excellent service. Menu is sufficiently broad as to serve a variety of taste, and we have never been disappointed with our choices.

Excellent as usual. Amazing attention to detail. Makes us feel good every time we visit.
The food is so good here. We had the roasted tomato soup, beef stroganoff, bread pudding as well as the creme brûlée. Soups here have such subtle and complex flavors-they are so tasty. And the Beef tips in the Stroganoff could not have been better. While the bread pudding had a different spice —I could not identify it—in taste, it was fine. The creme brûlée was perfect.
Service was good and attentive although I got the feeling some of the servers were inexperienced. Our main waiter was polished. I would recommend strongly—not just for a French flair, but Belgian and a good mix of American thrown in. The Chef obviously has such a deft hand.

Our first visit, and had the Valentine's Day menu. Wonderful atmosphere, superb food, excellent wine pairings. Absolutely recommend Petits Plats!
We came to Le Petits Plats for Valentines... It's easy to walk past and miss it (my husband thought I was turning into the pizza restaurant that's in the English basement, because that sign is more obvious.) My husband has hearing problems, so we asked to be seated upstairs... which is quieter. We chose the foie gras w brioche toast + the endive/apple salad for appetizers & the rack of lamb + the duck breast, all of which we split. The foie gras and endive salad were lovely (and I grew up in Belgium & we have a house in France). The foie grass plate was every bit as good as in the one-star Michelin restaurant in our hometown of Sancerre -- and both together were delightful. The lamb plate was also spectacular, and the duck breast was very very good -- the duck not quite tender enough, but the taste was wonderful, and I LOVED the sides with it -- the pureed sweet potatoes, the quinoa, etc. By the end, literally, there wasn't a drop of sauce left on our plates!
If we were quibbling, we'd say the 2016 Sancerre my husband was served (by the glass) was not as crisp and flinty as most Sancerres (the vineyard is a bit of an outlier in its taste), but then also 2016 was not the best year.
The trio of desserts was very good — a crème brûlée that I liked because it was creamy, but my husband prefers the more classic version and he likes his crème brûlée warm from the caramelizing. There was also an ehh chocolate mousse and a nice fruit tart. The best part of the dessert was the truffled chocolate heart that was the garnish in the fruit tart. The desserts were nice, but not in the same class as the appetizers or the main courses. The service was also good, but our water glasses lingered empty on too many occasions and it was hard to catch the eye of the servers. But it was a busy night, so certainly we understood.
We have been there before and we will definitely be back. And not just because we can walk there. This is a restaurant worth coming a long way for.
We went to Petit Plats for a business dinner after a workshop at the nearby Omni Shoreham hotel. The restaurant was not very busy on a Monday evening, but the service was excellent, as was the ambience. We sat in a small front room with a real fire in the fireplace. Two of us had the special duck breast with a juniper berry sauce and wild rice and acorn squash puree. The combination of flavors was outstanding. One of the other in the part had mussels - again, reported as outstanding. My only complaint was that the wine should have been decanted, but otherwise, a very enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend Petit Plats.
Whenever were in DC we always try to have a meal becausebecause it’s such a wonderful experience .

Nice and cozy atmosphere
A good "go to" french bistro in the Woodley Park neighborhood. Good food, very good value and a good and reasonable wine list.
Quiet, hidden-in-plain-sight gem of a restaurant! Had an enjoyable, delicious meal with friends and were able to hear one another perfectly (such a rarity in this area).
Another great meal from Irish salmon to scallops and mushroom stuffed pasta followed by yummy desserts and cheese plates. Decent wine list too! Can't wait to go back!

This is perhaps the best meal I've had in Woodley Park. The menu is classic French. All of our dishes were well prepared. The service was a bit spotty, and while we LOVED sitting fireside, the restaurant needs freshening up.
I never take the time to write reviews, good or bad but this experience moved me to Act. Three dear friends went to Petit Plats for a special holiday meal. Everything was superb. We shared appetizers, two main courses and a dessert. The chef split all in the kitchen and the presentation was exquisite. The waiter was accommodating to our every request. With the roaring fire and a fine bottle of Sancerre, the evening was the special occasion we wanted
We had excellent food, including potato leek soup as appetizer, special of monkfish accompanied by vegetable moussaka, and wonderful floating island for dessert.
Chef was really on target that night! Wine list includes affordable choices, and service was
very accomodating. Will return!
We were taking our young adult nieces out for the holidays. The food was superb and the service was excellent. We stayed late talking, and ultimately realized no one else was there except the help and we felt bad keeping the place open. We appreciated that there was no pressure to leave and enjoyed our evening immensely.
I dined here tonight for my aunt's birthday. The food and service was great! Our waiter Edgar was excellent and made sure we were satisfied. We were not disappointed with anything. We will definitely go back.

Loved this place! After months of wanting toget brunch here, we finally made it. So worth the wait! Can't wait to go again. We both got the Eggs Napolean (salmon version of a benedict) and belinnis and it was all delicious.
This is a throw back to old school charm, with fireplaces in two of the rooms we saw and a good traditional french menu that was very good. The service could have been better, but that's my only complaint. A great find. We will return.
My friend and I walked past Petits Plats the first time. It's in the top three floors of an old brownstone. The basement is a grab-and-go pizza joint with a garish sign. Petits Plats has an awning over its door, and the name is perfectly visible from the other side of Connecticut. Too bad we crossed the street before looking for Petits Plats; all we saw was the pizza sign. The decor is a French farm house. We were seated in the front dining room, the parlor of the original brownstone. Both of us liked the fireplace. Each of us began with a bowl of French onion soup. We followed that with one of the special entrees, the baked rockfish. It was served over leeks & other veggies in a white wine based light cream sauce. The rockfish filet was prepared perfectly: tender and flaky with a crispy skin. The veggies complemented the rockfish. We completed our delicious meal with creme brulee. The service was excellent.
We had a terrific meal with gracious and friendly service. The vegetarian lasagna and the goat cheese and red pepper salad were delicious as were the arugula salad and the bronzino. All in all a great evening
Loved it! So rare to find a traditional French bistro these days. Lovely, friendly service, happy atmosphere, Just wonderful. The cassoulet and floating island were perfect, and nice wine selection. Will definitely return!
the food was very good, but the escargot was brought with the soup and as a result it was cold and rather chewy. I would specify that courses be brought another one another.
We really like Petit Plats even though we almost always pass by it as it's so unimposing. The food--particularly the fish--is terrific. Boeuf Bourginon is melt in your mouth. A decent wine list. The menu is reliable--not a lot of changes--but that also means that it is reliable and comforting. Perhaps a bit rushing on service, but then they are near a convention hotel.
It has been years since I have been to Petit Plats, but it is even better than it was way back when!! I'll be back!!
