After a poor experience (at a different restaurant) the previous night, this was a delight. The outside dining suffered a little from mosquitoes, but otherwise had a very enjoyable energy from the local music and street traffic. Service was near-perfect: attentive but not fussy, responsive and smiling, very well-paced. Value was pretty decent, and the food was almost all very good: a perfect salad to start that woke up the palate; a good boeuf bourgignon; well-priced cocktails and wines; a willingness to deviate slightly from the menu when asked.
The bread pudding didn't quite match up: too stolid and heavy, a dense glutenous lump rather than the joy that a good bread pudding can be. But I left happy - very much recommended.
My friends and I enjoyed our dinner here. We ate here on a warm night. There wasn’t any air conditioning. But they had a large fan and kept the front door open. The food was great. And we loved the dessert.

This is one of the more pleasant French restaurants in town. It is rather informal, and you are welcomed like family. The location is a bit odd, above a pizza parlor and across the street from several big hotels. But it is well worth a visit. What attracts us is that this is one of the few restaurants where you can have a conversation without having to shout. When we were there, it was very hot, and the air conditioning was not working. The cooling came from a table-side cool-air blower.
The menu is French, with mostly standard items, and the wine list has some unusual items. We opted for a 4-course degustation with wine pairing ($80 p.p): foie gras, scallop, lamb steak and choice of three deserts, with a glass of champagne, sauvignon blanc, bordeaux and armagnac (other choices are possible). Everything was well prepared and attractively served. The service was attentive and helpful.
We enjoyed our dinner on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Petits Plats. Food was very good. Dining area is small . No Air conditioning so it was quite warm. Friendly service. Only street parking. Recommend it.

I love the food here. I always find the service a little less than desired -- mostly the staff disappear to another room and are not available. Also, they need to improve the AC
Excellent cuisine at a fair price. Duck was outstanding. Beef was wonderful. Service was adequate. The outside seating was pleasant. Visiting from out of town. Would come back because of the great food.
Whenever I visit DC I make sure I come here.
Service was very slow. 30 minutes before drinks arrived and 40 minutes later for overcooked food. To top it off, they tried to charge for 5 entrees for four people. Watch your wallet!
Four of us had a lovely lunch. The grilled seafood salad, floating island, and chocolate mousse were particularly good. Because it was't too busy, we were able to have easy conversation, and service was very attentive. It was a very enjoyable experience overall.

Petits Plats never fails to please. Simple and authentic French cooking. Not like some of the other pseudo-French restaurants in town that charge outrageous prices and don't really know what they're doing.
Wonderful discovery...sat on patio...beautiful evening...the waitress from Mongolia was so nice and so competent...really grateful we found and enjoyed dinner here. Back again I insure you now that I hear beef Bourgogne is very good.

A simple bistro with ok food. Nice to have in your neighborhood, but definitely not a destination.
Easter Brunch special menu plus regular one. Sat outside on lovely morning. We’re rather frequent diners here when in town. Usually quite reliable all around but some slip-ups this time. A forgotten order for a glass of wine and a large overcharge for two orders of a main course, upped by $14 in total due « error ». Funny thing is the place wasn’t very busy, with one other party outside and another inside. Also one gentleman lurking around the premises, who appeared to be either the owner or the shift’s lead, did not appear friendly.

After my friend and I dined at Petits Plats a month ago, she said she wanted to make sure we returned before I left D.C. Last visit, we were seated in what would have been the front bedroom on the second floor of the original brownstone. Friday, we were back in what would have been the first floor living room. We began with a serving of sautéed calamari served with garlic, pine nuts tomato & basil. The calamari were whole little squids in a pewter canister. For our entrées, we both had sautéed shrimp, tuna, salmon & scallops with creamy risotto. The entrées and appetizer were delicious! We finished with scoops of berry, coconut and mango sorbet. My friend and I had the same waitress that we had last time. She was excellent.
Worst service ever, we left without food being served
The reviews said the food is great and place is ok. But it was not good. What a very frustrating and bad experience. I took my boss here today April 18 (reserved via open table) and my son. We came early for our 1 pm lunch reservation. Waited patiently for more than 55 minutes and our food never came. The server was unapologetic and simply said ‘she’ (perhaps referring to the kitchen?) didn’t see the ticket so only started preparing our food after 45 minutes or waiting. He didn’t offer any bread or refilled our water despite our repeated asking. The inside of the restaurant was empty except for our table and another guy in the next table. Then 2-3 tables outside so in short the place was not full. Yet the service was sooo bad and the kitchen staff never delivered. We left without being served after almost an hour of waiting. I do not recommend this place and don’t bring colleagues and loved ones here. It will just ruin the celebration and the mood of the group as it did for us today. Am so upset because it also is embarrassing to my director who flew all the way from Vermont for a nice meal and then got disappointed. And the lone server really needs training in customer service he was that bad.
We had a lovely anniversary dinner at Petit Plats. The staff was very accommodating of a surprise my husband planned. The ambiance was perfect and our food was delicious. Thank you!
We had a very pleasant dinner. The food, as always, is very good. The service excellent and we were never rushed. We like the dinning room downstairs, cozy and quiet.
This is also our favorite brunch spot in The Woodley Park/Cleveland Park area. A nice menu, good food and service and a pleasant, quiet setting.
Our dinner at Petits Plats could not have been nicer. The wait staff was patient and welcoming, the bread is delicious, and the Ratatouille Lasagna is one of the best vegetarian dishes in town! We also enjoyed some of the perfectly crispy French fries--too many! Our room was full of people but there was no problem with too much noise.
Old school French restaurant in a lovely little house with rooms. Good food, nice ambiance, great value. A good escape for lunch.

The decor Petits Plats is of a French farm house. The wait staff is excellent: knowledgeable and attentive without hovering. This visit, we were seated in what would have been the front bedroom of the brownstone. As tightly as the tables were packed, it was easy to hold a conversation. Those 12+ ft ceilings make a difference. My friend and I began with bowls of French onion soup. She had one of the specials for her entree: grilled scallops with leeks, onions & asparagus in a balsamic reduction. I went with the Irish salmon in a potato crust served in tomato confit & olive oil. The potato crust was just on the skin side of the filet, giving it a nice texture. We finished with scoops of sorbet. The best way to sum up our experience is my friend said as we walked out we have to return at least once before I leave D.C. in May.
Petits Plats could be an interesting dining experience. However, they have put absolutely no effort into creating an ambience of elegance or coziness; instead, you feel like you are walking into a college dormitory. The food is better than that and effort should be extended to make people feel that their presence is of importance to the owners.
Enjoyed the moules and frites a lot. Wish parking were easier.

Love this little gem, it's like eating dinner in France! The food and wine list are outstanding and I love the owner Fred, he is true Frenchman and gentleman.
My wife and I sat upstairs and were next to a large extremely loud group. This lessened the enjoyment of what was a superb set of appetisers and main courses, and the recommended wine was quite good and reasonably priced. The desserts were disappointing, but the service attentive and good. We have been before and we will return. Next time we will request a table downstairs, which is both cozier and much quieter.
The place is charming. Unfortunately, the food is terrible. The chicken caesar salad consisted of romaine lettuce with a tasteless dressing, heavy on the mayonaise, with no trace of anchovies or cheese, shreds of croutons, and overcooked chicken strips. The salade nicoise contained an inedible piece of fish, poorly cooked and probably tinged with freezer burn. The waiter was attentive through lunch but disappeared after delivering the check and had to be summoned from another floor.
Food and service were both excellent. Overall a great dinner and experience.
This restaurant is outstanding. Great little hole in the wall. The meal was fantastic from start to finish. The baguette was the perfect balance of crunchy and soft, the foie gras was outstanding, scallop seared to perfection, delicate filet, and warm and delicious creme brulee. I would happily return with my wife or any friends or family. A real treat in the DC area.
I would have preferred to not have had the Valentine's Prix Fixe menu which I think was overpriced for the value. But the food was superb and the service was top notch and it WAS a holiday so I can't really complain.
This restaurant came as a really nice surprise. First impressions are fairly unprepossessing, but we were greeted really nicely and shown to a nice table. The menu is straightforward, but everything on it was delicious and wonderfully prepared. The lamb chops were easily the best I have eaten in DC, maybe in the Eastern US. The squid starter was totally delicious without overwhelming the rest of the meal. The wine list is also very functional and good value. I'll definitely return next time I'm in Adams-Morgan - a great place to escape from all those nightmare mega-conference hotels.
