It was just lovely. Good service. Excellent food. Small and quiet. Great experience. Salmon crepes and French onion soup were yummy.
We went for a romantic french dinner and we not disappointed. We love the duck liver, the escargot and the deviled eggs for a delightful starter. We sipped one of their signature cocktails the M. Smith while we waited for our dinner of boeuf bourguignon & steak frites accompanied by a delicious Bordeaux and a Pinot Noir. The topper of course is always desert with Pot de Creme and strong coffee. The waitstaff was very nice and not too obtrusive and the ambience was reminiscent of a Paris patisserie. I highly recommend as the prices are on Point with Portland’s burgeoning restaurant scene.
Amazing food, drinks, and setting. Great time
As a french person, I initially had my doubts and was pretty skeptical about what I would encounter..however, both my french friend and I were greatly surprised and pleased with the food and the entire experience. Everything was very flavorful, refined, and authentic! The prices, although a bit on the expensive side, were reasonable for the quality of the food.
La Petite Jacqueline has moved into the old port & a larger space in the old Squire . They were very accommodating and we had wonderful seats . It was also restaurant week so they had great specials but we dined from the regular menu . I had the onion soup which was spectacular followed by duck confit cassoulet which was to die for , my wife & daughter had fried cauliflower & crepe dishes with smoked salmon & Ham & gruyere with pot de creme for dessert with expresso & a nite cap of absinthe , couldn’t ask for a better ending to the meal
We were delighted. The food was excellent, and service was good.
It was my birthday and I love French food! Parsnip soup, coq au vin and salted citrus creme brûlée! It was to die for and very special. The bartender made the best Manhattan ever. I celebrated with my three beautiful daughters.
As a fan of petite JACQUELINE this meal was disappointing. I ordered the roasted chicken and literally couldn’t cut the leg section nor chew it. I sent the dish back and to management’s credit they didn’t charge for it and were apologetic. Still, it left a void in the meal. I will certainly return to the restaurant as I’ve had many excellent meals there. I’ll just avoid the chicken.
We really enjoyed our dinner. We especially appreciated the small plates and getting to try a variety of items. The deviled eggs were fantastic!
great spot in heart of Old Port. Charm and interesting menu. Not overpriced. Great service
Petite Jacqueline is an excellent choice for a French Bistro. The food is always excellent. Noise level could be softer and the ambiance could be a little nicer, BUT the quality of the food is excellent. I would definitely recommend going to this restaurant.
Fairly small restaurant so the noise level is pretty low. We had the fondue which was excellent. Wanting to keep with the French theme we had escargot, another winner, and the duck crepe and salmon crepe. The salmon crepe was a bit too salty for our taste. The duck crepe was right on. Finished the meal off with macaroons. Yummy!
Special Valentine’s Day menu and wine pairing option were a real treat. Food was excellently prepared and presented; a truely flavorful delight. Wine choices were delicious. Our first visit will keep us coming back.
A great place to spend your Valentine’s Day dinner with your partner.
We were greeted by name without even asking. I asked if perhaps we'd made a scene the last time were there but no, we must come here too often. The Valentines Day three course prix fixe menu was wonderful and the wine pairings were great ant at $12 a great value.
We'll be back!
I had crepes in Paris last summer, and the crepe I had for lunch exceeded the taste of my Parisian experience. Delicious!
An excellent spot in the heart of the Old Port, with authentic French cuisine, romantic atmosphere, and superb service. Ideal for a date, anniversary, or to expand your palate with their exceptional array of fine food and drink.
wonderful small resto in old port of portland. fun, lively and engaging barback and management really cares, we waited a little while for our entrees and they comp'd our affagato for dessert. classy.
Love Petite Jacqueline, even moreso at this location than when it was at State and Congress. The food is outstanding/authentic French at an affordable price. The location in the old port is a gold mine. The atmosphere is like a Parisian Cafe. The music fits the decor...truly lovely. I've been on multiple occasions, but this most recent visit was for a business meal...we were interviewing someone for a job. There were four of us. We selected Petite Jacqueline, because it was one of the only good Portland restaurants open on a Monday night. We had fondue as a shared appetizer (note: this was my first time having fondue, and it was very good, served with cubed baguette, sausage, cherry tomatoes, and diced apple). My main course was their half chicken dish...very comfort food...roasted chicken with mashers, gravy and carrots...lovely. My colleagues had the cassoulet and special (tri-tip with fries featuring aioli and cheese...kind of like a poutine presentation). Both of my colleagues raved about their dishes...one of my colleagues is from Montreal and she said the cassoulet was authentic and outstanding. Our interviewee had their vegetarian ravioli main course and loved it. For dessert we had their affogato, pot de creme, and creme brule. All of the desserts were, again, outstanding. Our wines were sauvignon blanc, blanc de blanc, syrah, and malbec. All good accompaniments to our dishes. Will continue to visit Petite Jacqueline. On other occasions, I've enjoyed their mussels and their artic char. Five stars.
I'm in my happy place when I'm at PJ. I love the food. I love the ambiance. And the staff is lovely.
Got the last reservation on a Saturday night and we were thrilled!
The staff treated us like we were their first guests!
Duck and Artic Char Papilotte were featured and delicious! Maine doesn't have many French Restaurants, so if you love authentic French food, you should go!
Great service and atmosphere, my "French Attitude Burger" was cooked to perfection, and our entire table loved their meals.
Had date night with my husband and its definetly one of the best restaurants we've been to in Portland! FONDUE was amazing and our meals were just as great! We can't wait to go back!
Started the meal with nice inventive cocktails. We both had Salads Lyonaise - delicious. They held the last cassoulet for us - thankfully!! It was an original take on an old favorite of ours. We split it. Also could get a half carafe of wine, which isn't that common these days. Waitress was a bit overwhelmed with an unexpected theatre rush, but was so gracious to us that we didn't mind at all. She and the bartender were both terrific hosts.
Had a great dinner and such a relaxing time. We will definitely go back again. Portland has great food and here is another example.
This was my first visit to Petite Jacqueline since they relocated to the Old Port. It was a wonderful experience. The larger dining room made for very comfortable seating compared to their older quaint but tiny space. The service was very good, but could have been a little bit warmer and more engaged. The food is as wonderful as I remember from the old space. It was a cold night and I had the cassoulet for my entrée. It was superb. And the foie gras appetizer was also wonderful. With apps, salad and entrée, we had no room for dessert, but we vowed to go back for coffe and pot de crème sometime in the near future.
Great dining experience, menu is just right, but would like just a couple more desert options. Customer service is the best in Portland, friendly from start to finish.
superb food and service. quite moderately priced for the quality
A gem with exceptional food, service, and atmosphere.
Food was excellent here. The only significant let down was the waitress who was inattentive and seemed to be going through the motions.
My wife and I would certainly dine here again but we would request a different waitress.
I really dislike post-meal email requests for reviews - it just clogs up my email. Everytime you go out and do anything - whether it be going to restaurants, going to a doctor, going to a store, everyone hits you up with a subsequent email request for comments. It is a really stupid marketing idea and makes me feel negative about the place to which I had gone.
We were driving through Portland on a Sunday morning and we were looking for a spot to have breakfast/brunch. Petite Jacqueline was one of the few restaurants that took reservations (there were five of us so that was key). The meal and ambiance well exceeded our expectations. The ambiance was great - very sunny and clean space with a cute french bistro flair. Our waitress (forgot to get her name) was awesome - very attentive but not overbearing and always made sure our coffee mugs were full! Most of us wanted something from the menu slightly adjusted and there was no problem accommodating our requests. The french onion soup was one of the best I have ever had (including the one that I make!). The crepes were amazing - something for everyone (from meat to veggies to sweet ones). The Eggs Benedict was also great, both with the lobster and without. Each dish was served with a simple, lightly dressed salad, which was delicious. We can't wait to come back to Portland and stop in at Petite Jacqueline for dinner (talk about comfort food!).
Had a wonderful meal. The service was attentive and friendly. The menu was on point and the cocktails were well made. Great restaurant.
We had dinner for 4 people at a beautiful spot in the corner by the big windows. I loved my dinner entree which was a beef special with a deep fried brie. It was cooked to perfection and quite flavorful. The greens salad was kind of bland. Our sever was quite attentive which was nice. My one complaint about the service is that I wished she had asked us ahead of time if we wanted separate tabs (one for each couple). Otherwise it was a great overall dining experience.
Such a cute spot! Love the French music in the background. We ordered the duck liver appetizer, I had the chicken entree and my husband had the burger. All were well above average and everything was very reasonably priced considering what were delivered! We enjoyed the special dessert as well. The restaurant was quiet and the service was well above par. Highly recommended!
Had a fabulous real authentic French bistro meal tonight at Petite Jacqueline. This is a sweet little place with large windows, marble tabletops, and great staff and service.
We both started with the frisée salad which was a generous portion of fresh greens, lardons, and egg. We’ve had this dish many places, primarily in New York, but this one excelled over any we’ve had elsewhere.
The mussels, were a large portion that was hard to finish even though they were delicious. The onion soup was authentic and good.
There’s a small but good wine list, all appropriate matches to the food.
This was a winner meal.
Went once for hubby's birthday plus had been to old spot years ago, first evening lovely. Went again next night just because we liked it so much, and again, absolutely lovely except the cassoulet was very salty. I had had it the night before and it was absolutely perfect so I recommended it to my husband. So with that said, you know they make things individually and on the spot. We mentioned it and the server was very nice about it and took it just the way it was meant, just as a comment so that they would know in the kitchen. They even took it off the bill. Things like that happen at a place where food is cooked individually and not in mass quantities and everything else, appetizers (french onion soup and duck terrine amazing), salads fabulous (lyonnaise the best we've ever had anywhere!), chicken entree and mussels all absolutely delightful. Dessert offering impressive .. their pot du creme melts in your mouth. I would have given it 5 stars in all categories except for the salty cassoulet ... again, stuff like that happens every so often. We've now been there 3 times and my hubby and I agree that this is one of the best little French bistros we've eaten at, and we travel and eat out a lot! This is a must visit and try if you love truly authentic bistro food in a quaint setting and like excellent service.
Service, ambiance and French Onion Soup were great, but please tell me how a French Bistro runs out of Quiche Lorraine just as they opened for lunch ?? Because no one wanted to come in early and make a few FRESH ones I suspect.
Crepe was dry and skimpy on fillings. Salads were very good and the prices here are extremely reasonable.
Like most restaurants in Portland, there is no parking.
All in all, petite Jacqueline did not disappoint. I had escargots to start and Beef Burgandy as a main course. The Beef was delicious with a deeply flavored sauce and nicely braised beef and vegetables. The escargot had a flavorful garlickly crumb topping, although the snails themselves could have used ore flavor, a strong marinade perhaps. I will go back to Petite Jacqueline to try some of the other dishes they offer.
We had a wonderful time at Petite Jacqueline on Christmas Eve and the service was awesome. Thanks you
Excellent brunch! Loved the quiche!
