We went to PSI for our wedding anniversary and it was wonderful. RJ was our server. He was personable, attentive, and knowledgeable. We were seated in a lovely side patio area with just enough privacy, but allowed for the perfect amount of ambiance for the aesthetic of PSI. We did the chef’s prefixed menu and we were stuffed. I highly recommend PSI to anyone who visits Cape May.
My husband and I just got married. We went to Cape May for our “Mini Moon” as we have to wait until the summer for our actual honeymoon. We wanted a romantic dinner. It could not have been more perfect. The ambiance was so nice and quiet. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. My husband and I both loved our dishes. He got the halibut with gnocchi and I got the sea bass with artichoke. For dessert we shared the panecotta which was heavenly! After dinner, we sat by the fireplace which was so warm and cozy. Just a lovely evening to celebrate our recent nuptials! :) I would definitely recommend PSI for a nice romantic night out!
Wonderful as always. My No. 1 favorite restaurant in Cape May.
Beautiful atmosphere. Peter was our great waiter. Food was next level
RJ was our server and he was friendly and attentive. Great service and 5 stars for RJ. Food was great. Enjoyed everything!
Always a romantic setting.
We had a very special chef’s tasting. Thank you!!
I had the Tuna Crudo appetizer - the chef has the ability to create incredibly complex flavors in each bite. For an entree, I had the Day Boat Scallops - also incredibly flavorful! My 17 year old son had a Sea Bass which he loved and my husband and daughter both had the halibut with homemade gnocci...we ordered an extra side of gnocci to share after the first taste. Warm Fig Pudding was a hit! Delicious with friendly service and relaxing atmosphere. Would have been nice if Cape May hadn't been 45 degrees, but Peter Shields is always worth the trip!
Wonderful! Service and food are always good and it is a BYOB which is a good thing!
This was a repeat visit for myself. Was so excited to bring my husband and daughter for dinner. Our food was fabulous and the service was very good. One appetizer was brought to the table late (had been forgotten) but worth the wait. The only complaint we had was the noise level. We were seated next to a large and very Loud group.
PSI was wonderful, again!
Peter Shields Inn is an elegant high end dining experience in a historic inn overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Ask for a table with a view if you go. Everything is well done, service is efficient but not overbearing. Food is excellent. We had the haddock and the tuna and both were perfectly prepared. I highly recommend, especially for a special occasion. BYOB however.
A weekend getaway with my family. The meal was excellent, fresh, and showed a love for food. Live piano was very nice, and they were accommodating to our one year old who enjoyed the asparagus with crab soup. I highly recommend this for location for anyone who appreciates a high end food experience.
We had a selection of either a two course menu or four course menu. We decided to go two course, since the four course menu I would have gone for if I was a bit hungrier. The service excellent. The table setting elegant, and yes it is a bring your own bottle, and they are prepared to chill your wine or beer. I can say the food was tasty, eclectic and enjoyable. Well worth the wait.
If you want a quieter experience take the early table reservations.
Not only does the waitress or waiter ask how is everything going so does the hostess as well.
Wonderful as always!
Romantic, classy, charming, and best of all, super delicious food!! BYOB so plan ahead and bring a nice bottle or two of wine. I cleaned my plate at each course because it was so good. Can’t wait to go back!!
Really enjoyed the food. Had a great time.
Excellent food & service. Nice, quiet atmosphere. Very classy in general. Special fixed price for those who stayed at the inn like us was very nice. We would highly recommend it & look forward to going back!
We have dined at Peter Shields many times and have gone for many special occasions including a surprise “50th” celebration for my husband. Peter Shields NEVER disappoints!
As always, a memorable experience
Absolutely beautiful. Went for Easter brunch. Loved it!
Easter Brunch
Simply Amazing ... as usual
They again check off all the boxes —
excellence in cuisine, service, ambiance
And as the Maitre d' said as we were leaving
“See you soon!”
... Yup!
The Easter brunch was spectacular. The food was wonderful, the ambiance was festive, and the staff was very friendly.
Great service, great food and love that it's a BYOB restaurant. Would definitely go again.
Excellent atmosphere with live piano, attentive service and consistently delicious food make this restaurant our favorite in Cape May!
Consistently outstanding! I enjoy the chefs tasting menu. 4-5 courses that are thoughtfully designed and in my opinion... flawlessly executed. This was my third time dining here in the last 2 years.
Elegant dining, outstanding flavors, attentive service... even the piano player is something special.
Go for a date or special occasion or every day dining. I probably wouldn’t take my family of finicky young kids or teenagers.
But I will make a point to get one dinner here each time I visit Cape May.
We did the Winter pre fixe menu for only $33 per person. It’s also BYOB. The food was incredible, prepared and presented perfectly. We will definitely be back again and might splurge to try the regular menu.
We went on the Thursday before Easter - the 'winter prix fixe' menu gave 3 choices for each course, and everything we had was delicious. The salmon main course was cooked perfectly (medium) to order; and the roasted cod was also excellent. Good value for the quality of food at $33 per head.
The view was fantastic, the service staff was very attentive and very knowledgeable and the food was beyond great from appetizer to dessert and the restaurant being a byob made the experience more special.
Simply incredible from a to z....they do everything right!!!
We have been there many times - anniversaries, birthdays, dinners - and it is always great!
This is not the first we have eaten here and certainly look forward to returning. The food has always been excellent as the service. We tried their tasting menu this time and were absolutely delighted. We didn't expect portions to be as large as they were, the chef even threw in a little surprise. Some might say that we overate and would probably be right, but we loved every last bite.
Although a bit pricy, the food and service are great. Nice place with nice piano music.
Food is amazingly good. From appetizer to desert. Celebrated anniversary and couldn't ask for better experience.
Wonderful time. The food was outstanding!!
As always it was an awesome dining experience
As usual, food was outstanding. Very disappointed in delays in service. Don't know what was happening in the kitchen but took forever to receive our entire. Problem dinner was this past Thursday which may allow the restaurant to find out what happened. We love this restaurant and hope we won't be disappointed again
Peter Shields Inn is a bed and breakfast that also has a delicious restaurant. Typical prices for a "special occasion" restaurant. The ambience is wonderfully victorian with a great view of the beach and Atlantic Ocean. Service was timed nicely and efficient. The meal Itself was outstanding. I had the duck that melted in my mouth. I would definitely return to this restaurant to celebrate another occasion.
I have always wanted to dine at Peter Shields and brought my sister and dear friend in from Chicago to finally get the opportunity. We pulled up and thought how majestic the building looked. I was surprised a restaurant of this supposed caliber did not offer valet parking to better serve its' patrons. Our reservation was for 8 PM. We arrived on time and were greeted by a young woman at a check in desk and was told people were finishing their dessert and there wasn't a table ready to seat us. She told us there was a lounge down the staircase which was off the main floor. The doorway had the word "restroom" above it. I was not interested sitting to wait for our table outside the restroom in the basement. Shortly after another young woman greeted us and told us to do the same thing. I explained to her we are now waiting 10 minutes and I had hoped our table would be ready soon. We stayed together in the foyer where there was only 1 seat. Were they kidding me. Were we in their way? Servers were passing through the foyer to serve other clients. What was the hang-up from the staff? It certainly wasn't to better serve us. The feeling was overall they didn't like us standing there where other clients could see we were not being seated. One would expect from a restaurant such as this they would not have kept us waiting. We were finally seated 20 minutes later than our reservation. The atmosphere was pretty however the food also lacked a great deal of luster with the exception of the potato leak soup and lamb stew. If you decide to go dine here please take advantage of the special pre-fix dinner as that is about as much as I would pay for a meal to dine there. Our strip steak looked lovely but was inedible. When I asked the waiter if it was sirloin he said "we don't serve sirloin at Peter Shields and we don't serve prime until the summer." Really??? The hoity did not live up to the hipe! There are much better choices in Cape May and glad we didn't pay full price!
PSI never disappoints. We are so lucky to have an establishment of this caliber blocks from our home. The cuisine, service, ambiance are all top notch and done with the utmost of class yet warm and inviting. PSI staff care about your experience - you are not just a number to them. We look forward to our next visit over the Easter holiday!
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Service, ambiance & food were all fantastic.
