Peter Shields Inn Ratings and Reviews
Excellent food and service! We dined here on President's day weekend as two couples celebrating the birthday of one of the group's members. Two of us had the Prix-Fix menu and two ordered off the standard menu. With the choices available on the Prix-Fix, everyone ended up with something completely different -- and EVERYTHING was excellent and well prepared! We also had very attentive, but not overbearing service that was well timed. In the background was a live pianist playing light, familiar music to add to the evening.
You will spend some $$$$ at this place, but since it is a BYOB, you save there on your drinks; and I firmly believe in "you get what you pay for" -- this place provided excellent food and service for the price you do pay!
OK, so this review isn't so good for a restaurant that is generally great.
We live nearby and go there often. On Valentines Day they featured an aged, prime NY strip "special" at $80 (I was salivating! ). I expected it to be better than their "normal" $60 NY strip..... It turned out to be a bad steak
There was a whole lot that added up to our bad experience including:
- it was Valentines Day and I wasn't inclined to make a scene (MY BAD!!!!)
- our server went missing for the entire time it took to eat our meal (we had to pour our own wine during the meal!)... no opportunity to complain...I wasn't about to get up and run around to find someone
- the food runner did ask how our meals were but before I could explain that my steak was poor, he laughed and ran away (I assume he misunderstood me?)
My steak was:
- Very small (probably a good thing)
- Mostly fat
- Over-cooked (somewhere past medium versus the request of medium rare)
- Tasted a bit "off"... "spoiled"
In summary, we paid $80 for one of the worst steaks I've ever had. I believe PSI might have gotten hosed by their supplier but that's just a guess. Holiday supply chains are sometimes difficult in their business.
My wife's meal (a different dish) was wonderful as is usual at PSI.
Our server finally returned for our dessert order but never asked about the entrée and I didn't volunteer (my bad again). The hostess did ask about our meals on our way out. I told the truth in a nice way and she offered to replace my meal....... REALLY?!... do they think we would want to hang around the crowded lobby waiting for a handout at 9:30 PM on Valentines Day? There had to be a better option. Ummm, quietly passing along a small gift certificate would seem like a win-win.
We'll go back to PSI because they are really good at what they do but I have to say that we probably won't go on Mothers Day or Valentines. I guess any business can screw up when they are stressed.
Obviously one of the top rated restaurants in the state waitresses was very helpful with the menu the table was perfect near a fireplace quiet atmosphere you can hear yourself talk for a change in a restaurant. The choices on a Valentine's week menu were exceptional and it tastes was out of this world I definitely will go back and it doesn't have to be a special occasion five stars
Dinner was excellent, as was our wait staff, in particular, Dorothy. She was very attentive, and handled an unpleasant guest, seated by us, with poise and professionalism. We haven't been to Peter Shields in at least four years. The food was delicious and the portions appeared larger than they use to be. There wasn't a green salad listed on the menu, but when we mentioned this to Dorothy, she was able to get us mesculan greens with beets and goat cheese. They have also added the piano player which was very nice, instead of piped in music. All in all, a wonderful evening. Thank you.
As usual,s the Peter Shields Inn did not disappoint. Every aspect of the dinner was as expected for a premier dining establishment. From the decor, through the service and food to the end. This is fine dining as is expected from this restaurant, especially as we were not rushed.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary on Thursday and luckily for us, Peter Shields Inn reopened their restaurant after a brief renovation hiatus. We had a spectacular dinner (as usual) and look forward to many more throughout the upcoming year. Thank you Peter for your attentive service.
The Peter Shields Inn lived up to its five star rating in every way.
The romantic, yet laid back ambiance; the attentive and friendly service; the incredible and delicious food deserve every one of those five stars. It was well worth every penny, and we will return again!
Party of 4...Third year in a row for NYE weekend. Disappointed in the surf and turf entree...scallops over salted and inedible. Salmon sausage patty was dry and over cooked with little flavor. Appetizers (soup) were excellent (oysters wonderful). One entree originally removed from bill. Took persistence to finally have both taken off the menu. Offer of dessert (head hostess) on the House was nice, but the original offer should have been to take the two surf and turf entrees off our bill. After a warm welcome and banter throughout our meal, our waiter seemed perturbed at the end. By the way, we tipped on the entire bill (including the two entrees removed). This was a kitchen problem. Not in service. After always loving PSI (was there for dinner in September), we left feeling awkward and a bit shamed. Sigh.
I had one if the best meals of my life at the Peter Shields Inn. We chose it for its location, walking distance from our hotel, and expected a typical high-end beach resort meal. The food was spectacular in its preparation and ingredients, the service was polite and appropriately timed for a leisurely meal. They brought dessert with a birthday candle and instead of the usual waitstaff singing, the pianist just segued into "Happy Birthday ". Classy. We will definitely return for special occasions.
I had such a wonderful Halibut (my absolute favorite) dinner at the Peter Shields Inn in Nov celebrating my friend's birthday that I decided to do the same for mine in Dec. Only this time I also brought my fiance. He had the NY, I had the fillet and my friend had the salmon. It was all superb. They both raved about the tartar appetizer which I tasted and also loved particularly the tuna. I also very much enjoyed my salad and especially the chocolate lava cake for dessert. The service and ambiance were also both excellent. Thank you for making both of our birthdays very special.
