Peter Shields Inn Ratings and Reviews
We were there on our trip to Cape May for the Victorian Christmas. We enjoyed the experience very much. Lovely decorations, wait staff was excellent, food was fantastic, loved the butternut squash, it was best I ever had. I would definitely recommend The Phillip Shield Inn.
On Sunday,December 3rd,Peter Shields kitchen had an electrical problem in their stove hoods, and couldn't cook for early reservations. They offered us free wine, crackers, and cheese,in front of the fireplace downstairs,as repairs were being made. The hostess was very sweet and accommodating. Dinner started an hour late, but as Always,an outstanding meal!! Our compliments to the chef.
Unfortunately I can not review this restaurant. When we arrived in Cape May that evening at 4pm they called me to say my reservation had been cancel due to some sort of emergency. This left us with no place to eat as we scrambled for a reservation some place else. Cape May was having their annual Christmas parade in addition to the house tour that we went to see.
What an excellent choice - the service and the food were just awesome!! My wife and I both chose the Pork Chop and it was one of the finest I’ve ever had...I don’t say this lightly but it was! If your looking for an unforgettable location and meal, Peter Shields is it!!
We had an amazing dinner at The Peter Shields Inn this past Wednesday night! It was the final night of our three day Cape May getaway, and we wanted to save the best for last. Our dining experience was 5 stars all the way! Our table for two on the lovely side porch was so romantic, R.J. our server, was very arrentive, helpful, and pleasant (service could not have been better), and the honey glazed pork chop over sweet potato purée and kale with pancetta that I ordered was the best I ever tasted! My husband had venison and said it was excellent, done perfectly at chef-recommended medium rare. This is truly one of our favorite restaurants in Cape May. We look forward to returning in the spring.
This was my husband's birthday dinner. The restaurant was already in full Christmas decor with white and gold. Very romantic setting, quiet back ground music, polite and well mannered wait staff who knew their food very well.
No loud guests and everyone came dressed up for the occasion.
Menu might sound a bit pricy, yet, BYOB helps the final bill.
It was worth 2 hour drive.
Greeted with a smile as always. Our table was ready for us prior to us showing up (a few minutes early). Food was excellent as always. Chris was an accommodating pro and had all the right suggestions based upon our wine. Be sure to get the ice cream with your dessert.
Went for our one year anniversary and they brought two glasses of champagne to our table and wished us a happy anniversary. From there it only got better. I asked the piano player to play our wedding first dance song and he was happy to oblige. Everything about this restaurant is first class from the ambiance to the service and the food was spectacular. Because it's BYOB you don't need to take a second mortgage for the check and if you forget to bring wine (like we did) you can purchase local Cape May wines for a very reasonable price.
The atmosphere in the Peter Shields Inn was quiet, elegant, and sophisticated, with muted conversation, and an ambiance of a world gone by: Time slowed down; the staff--especially Chris--respected us and were attentive to our needs; and our meals were prepared to our satisfaction. Briefly, it was elegant dining, perhaps the best we have enjoyed in Cape May.
My wife and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary. An evening of dinning pleasures and an attentive staff made the occasion quite memorable. We highly recommend PSI...best meal we had this year and we dine out every weekend in Cape May, Stone Harbor, Avalon and Somers Point.
PSI is ostensibly one of the more upscale restaurants in Cape May, NJ> We were seated in a room with several other large, boisterous, obnoxious parties. Our party of four had to scream across the table to be heard. IF PSI wants to continue to charge premium prices for an upscale dining experience, then management needs to ensure all patrons' dining experiences are equally enjoyable. Will not return in the foreseeable future
Even a superior restaurant has an off night now and again. This just happened to be one of those nights.
We are big fans of PSI and one slightly less than perfect dinner won’t change our opinion. My wife’s pork belly appetizer was tough and stringy. Her beef entree was so salty she couldn’t finish it.
As always, our server, Petar was great and the ambiance was wonderful we will be back.
The food was delicious, however my rack of lamb was quite fatty. I enjoy a little bit of fat but I did not think the lack of actual lamb meat justified the steep price tag. Also, on an adjacent table, I watched a busser drop a clean knife on the floor while setting a table....he picked it back up and put it on the table. That should not be happening in any restaurant, let alone a high end one. I'm not sure if we would go back.
This is 3rd time we have dined at the Peter Shields Inn. As with our previous dining experiences, this was perfect. Our server RJ couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. Our meals were cooked to perfection. 'We were not rushed, rather, we were encouraged to relax and enjoy the evening. Our future trips to Cape May will definitely include dining at the Peter Shields Inn.
