Service was slow; we were seated for an hour before our first course arrived. Waitress was not trying at all to engage with us. I felt she was cold and a bit standoffish. Third course, the entree, was not hot for 3 of the four in our party. We did not complain bc we had already been there for almost 2 hours and did not want to prolong the dinner.

Sent my father to Peter Shields for his 83rd birthday. The food (halibut and duck), service and ambience exceeded his expectations. I was impressed with how easy it was to call ahead and make sure his dinner was charged to my credit card even though I couldn't be there. Clearly Peter Shields is class act and a great choice for a special occasion.

Our first time dining at Peter Shields, an amazing experience. It was my dad’s 87 birthday and it seemed like a perfect way to honor him! He isn’t one for fancy restaurants but I have to tell you he absolutely loved it! He loved his dinner and the piano player played happy birthday!
So grateful , thank you!

Not exactly the waterfront dining experience it’s hailed as-it’s across the street from the ocean, very hard to see the water from inside the restaurant. Standard fine dining experience, not particularly interesting if you’re a foodie. Bit of a tourist trap. More stuffy than romantic.

Had a 5.30 reservation which they repeatedly declined to for a later time. Eventually after many calls they agreed to a hour later. When arrived there were many tables empty only 25% occupied on the porch. I complained to the manager Amy to no satisfaction. It appears they were keeping tables open for walk ins.

We found the Peter Shields Inn on your website while staying in Wildwood Crest. The Inn is beautiful both inside and out. We especially loved the pianist who played throughout dinner with a very nice selection of music at a level you could still have a conversation without effort. The food was gorgeously presented, but a very full price for the portion sizes ( hence the 4 star) . We both had the Corn Chowder and the Scottish Salmon, which were delicious. Overall we loved the ambiance and would recommend it to friends. Next time, though, we'll go for the "Early Pris Fixe " between 5-5:30pm. Its location across from the beach, means a nice stroll along the water after dinner . BTW...people do dress-up for dining...no sloppy "beach wear" seen. Also, it's BYOB in case you want an alcoholic drink like beer or wine.

Our birthday celebration with four adults was outstanding! Two had the early bird dinners, pork and chicken where the mashed potatoes were to die for! One had the four course chef's dinner where the day boat scallops starred! I had the Wagyu flat iron steak over tasty risotto - asked for the steak cooked medium but was served medium rare. The summer corn soup appetizer was creamy and delicious - get this if it is on the menu. Service was outstanding, too. Water glasses filled promptly, attention from our waiter appropriate and pleasant. Our request to sit by a window was granted so we had a view of the Atlantic Ocean while dining - lovely.

Been going for 17 years for our anniversary. Food, service, atmosphere great. Waitress congratulated couple next to us for their anniversary but NOT to us, we are usually offered a glass of complimentary champagne but none was given. Filet mignon not on menu, you can still get it off the tasting chef menu as an entree but it is smaller and not worth $52. Oysters are great but now they charge extra to get the caviar with it at $35. I hope they will reconsider putting filet as a regular menu item.

Love dinner on the patio looking at ocean and hearing piano music.

It is one the finest restaurants one can go to. All food was unbelievable. We have had Dan the waiter for at least 4 years, and he is about the best professional we’ve experienced. If you’re not going for a special occasion, you’re wrong.

We had been here last year and left with positive views, however, this year was very disappointing. We felt we were treated poorly because we were not staying at the Inn. After being seated we sat for 15 minutes before being greeted by anyone. The waitress said she would bring bread, but none ever arrived. Portions were small, especially for the price. Presentation was worthy, but food had very little flavor. The chef needs to venture into using herbs and seasonings. We went with items that were recommended as the “specialties”. Tuna Tartare $15 and jumbo lump crab salad $23 both of which were about the size of a silver dollar. Orecchiette pasta with lobster had about 3 tsp size pieces of lobster for $24 with a watery sauce. Alaskan halibut for $38 had some hard peas, a few chunks of carrot and a tasteless sauce. Duck breast for $49 was dry. The only redeeming thing was the piano playing. We will not be back.

Food was outstanding. I had the tuna tartare, husband had the crab salad. Both were great, but I preferred his because of the smoky flavor. we both had the wagu beef and it was so good. Service was outstanding. Would definitely go again.

We had an outstanding dinner at Peter Shields. All 4 of us felt that this dinner was the best each of us has had in a longtime. The halibut was especially noteworthy. The service was topnotch - all waitstaff members were attentive and set a perfect pace that provided us with a relaxing, delightful dining experience.

Peter Shields is the most luxurious dining experience in Cape May. Food, service (Peter is the best!) and atmosphere never disappoint. We experienced one glitch this visit—one of our dining companions has food allergies and the wrong entree was given to her. Since we all had similar dishes, the error wasn’t discovered right away. A recipe for disaster. Luckily, we just switched out and moved on with no bad results.

The restaurant is beautiful and romantic. Our waiter was great, warm, professional, but not stuffy. All the other staff were fabulous as well, from the hostesses to the bussers. The food was delicious, my favorite being the crab salad. Salad was very good. The duck was excellent. My only wish is that we would have been seated in the Zebra Room (didn't know about that room until that night after we ate) which I believe had open seats that were not used that evening. Our table wasn't bad but it was at the doorway going to the deck and it was by the wait station.

It’s located right across from Cape May beach in a beautiful Victorian home. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed with a piano playing in the background. The service is professional and the food is excellent. The Mahi-mahi and the Halibut were delicious. We also love the mushroom soup and house salad. Desserts are made in house and are yummy! It’s a bit on the expensive side but not overly priced for the fine dining experience. The pasta all looked wonderful but we couldn’t eat another course-next time. All in all it’s a delightful experience!
