Peter Shields Inn Ratings and Reviews
Four of us enjoyed a lovely evening at Peter Shields. The ambiance was lovely, a piano playing softly in the background. The food and service were both outstanding. It was our pleasure to dine at Peter Shields. From appetizer to dessert, we all smiled with delight. We will enjoy recommending Peter Shields to our friends, and look forward to dining here again.
The ambiance is beautiful and all dressed up in holiday splendor. Our table was near the amazing fireplace as requested, and the food was delicious. We started with the fresh greens salad with beet, goat cheese and walnuts in a vinegarette dressing....it was tasty. I enjoyed the grilled tenderloin which was melt in your mouth perfect. A lovely holiday dinner enjoyed by all.
Probably the best Jersey shore restaurant meal! My husband had a sea bass risotto and butternut squash soup and I ordered the beef tenderloin cooked to perfection..
All we’re excellent.. would highly recommend and will most definitely be returning! The ambiance was a low key, but elegant atmosphere.. was beautifully decorated for Christmas!
An absolutely beautiful way to spend an anniversary or special occasion! We were so lucky, because we went on a night when the snow was gently falling and the inn was decked out for Christmas. Our waiter, Petar was fantastic, as was Tom, who first seated us. So friendly and genuine! They even brought over flutes of champagne for us! We were seated by the fire which really was wonderful! I ordered the Salmon and my husband, the Sea Bass. Each dish was incredible with so many surprise flavors...and the butternut squash soup with smoked trout was out of this world. The dessert was stupendous, fig pudding cake with homemade vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce! Mmm mmm! Thank you Peter Shields Inn for a memorable evening..couldn't have been more perfect!
Peter Shields is one of our favorite restaurants in Cape May. We love visiting Cape May often and often eat at Peter Shields. The Inn and restaurant was decorated tastefully and the food, as always, was superb. We ordered from the early bird price-fixed 3 course menu for $40 per person. Each course was not only beautiful to look at, but delicious as well. We look forward to our next trip to Cape May and Peter Shields.
Excellent excellent excellent. Definitely some of the best, if not the best food in Cape May.
Only complaint is that last two times dining there I was freezing! Once we sat in a back porch area, and this last time we were very close to the front door, so every time it opened we felt a rush of freezing cold air (since it was actually cold in cape may that day!) not enjoyable to be shivering and trying to enjoy your dinner.
Two of celebrated our December birthdays early one recent Sunday. Since there were only two, we sat on an enclosed porch, it was lovely. The meal was consistently excellent, soup to dessert. Their cappuccino is better than many coffee shops.
The Inn was thoughtful enough to send over a cup of homemade chocolate ice cream with some birthday candles.
Sean was our server and we just loved him.
We went to use the restrooms before the trek home and ended up watching the Eagles with some Inn guests. What a perfect evening.
We were there on our trip to Cape May for the Victorian Christmas. We enjoyed the experience very much. Lovely decorations, wait staff was excellent, food was fantastic, loved the butternut squash, it was best I ever had. I would definitely recommend The Phillip Shield Inn.
On Sunday,December 3rd,Peter Shields kitchen had an electrical problem in their stove hoods, and couldn't cook for early reservations. They offered us free wine, crackers, and cheese,in front of the fireplace downstairs,as repairs were being made. The hostess was very sweet and accommodating. Dinner started an hour late, but as Always,an outstanding meal!! Our compliments to the chef.
Unfortunately I can not review this restaurant. When we arrived in Cape May that evening at 4pm they called me to say my reservation had been cancel due to some sort of emergency. This left us with no place to eat as we scrambled for a reservation some place else. Cape May was having their annual Christmas parade in addition to the house tour that we went to see.
What an excellent choice - the service and the food were just awesome!! My wife and I both chose the Pork Chop and it was one of the finest I’ve ever had...I don’t say this lightly but it was! If your looking for an unforgettable location and meal, Peter Shields is it!!
We had an amazing dinner at The Peter Shields Inn this past Wednesday night! It was the final night of our three day Cape May getaway, and we wanted to save the best for last. Our dining experience was 5 stars all the way! Our table for two on the lovely side porch was so romantic, R.J. our server, was very arrentive, helpful, and pleasant (service could not have been better), and the honey glazed pork chop over sweet potato purée and kale with pancetta that I ordered was the best I ever tasted! My husband had venison and said it was excellent, done perfectly at chef-recommended medium rare. This is truly one of our favorite restaurants in Cape May. We look forward to returning in the spring.
This was my husband's birthday dinner. The restaurant was already in full Christmas decor with white and gold. Very romantic setting, quiet back ground music, polite and well mannered wait staff who knew their food very well.
No loud guests and everyone came dressed up for the occasion.
Menu might sound a bit pricy, yet, BYOB helps the final bill.
It was worth 2 hour drive.
Greeted with a smile as always. Our table was ready for us prior to us showing up (a few minutes early). Food was excellent as always. Chris was an accommodating pro and had all the right suggestions based upon our wine. Be sure to get the ice cream with your dessert.
Went for our one year anniversary and they brought two glasses of champagne to our table and wished us a happy anniversary. From there it only got better. I asked the piano player to play our wedding first dance song and he was happy to oblige. Everything about this restaurant is first class from the ambiance to the service and the food was spectacular. Because it's BYOB you don't need to take a second mortgage for the check and if you forget to bring wine (like we did) you can purchase local Cape May wines for a very reasonable price.
The atmosphere in the Peter Shields Inn was quiet, elegant, and sophisticated, with muted conversation, and an ambiance of a world gone by: Time slowed down; the staff--especially Chris--respected us and were attentive to our needs; and our meals were prepared to our satisfaction. Briefly, it was elegant dining, perhaps the best we have enjoyed in Cape May.
