Every dining experience at PSI is fabulous . Staff is attentive and knowledgeable. Always make Diane’s birthday that much more special
Peter Shields has such old world charm. The food is always excellent! Its a wonderful place to go for special occasions! Try the Halibut!
Always a great meal with exceptional service. Fresh ingredients at a great value and the BYOB leaves the wine choice open to yourself. Had a perfect tenderloin while my wife enjoyed the Halibut. Consistently a great choice for a hard to please couple that travels extensively to dine out. Worth the trip every time.
Excellent great service the best
Peter Shields is far and away my favorite restaurant in southern New Jersey. It would be a five start restaurant in any area, but here at the shore, with access to so many fresh fish and vegetable options, the food is simply exceptional. It is perfect in every way -- from food to service to ambiance. Our food was delicious from burrata and beets to roasted salmon to steamed pudding. Thank you as always, Carl Messick for such a perfect evening.
The food was outstanding and the waiter Dylan was excellent, very attentive. I would highly recommend dining at PSI. It was a great way to celebrate my Birthday.
Food was great. A bit noisy. Waiter needed queuing. Not attentive.
Food and ambience was great. Little too long of a wait between appetizers and main course with no explanation or apology from waiter.
I enjoyed everything. The service was wonderful. The food was delicious. I ordered the beet salad and it only had one beet in it. I thought for a “beet” salad there should be more. I ordered the branzino for an entree and it was hands down the best I ever had!!
My spouse and I had a wonderful time. Food was great. It is a great place for a romantic dinner.
I have been here many times and always enjoyed the food ... this was the first time ,unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the food
We loved it! Started with prompt seating and a glass of wine. We had pork belly and butternut squash soup. Then we had the hangar steak main course: tender and cooked to perfection. Wonderful meal start to finish. Highly recommend!
Over-rated. The halibut was bland. Tiny pieces of lobster buried in spinach. Furnishings worn and wallpaper scuffed. I have pictures. Fruit flies in my wine. Won’t be back.
We have returned many times over many years! Always a favorite. Never disappointed.
This can be the best Restaurant in Cape May if the service matches the Chiefs talents. The food from presentation to the tastes combined on each plate for the money is well worth treating your tastebuds to. But I stayed in the Inn and was asked about my dinner reservation at check in and when we went to dinner at 7:30 there was confusion on the table and my wife and I were sat at a table by the servers working area (usually this is where you would sit walk ins) Not to mention I had to pour our Wine 3 times?
If the restaurant manager can get her or his team focused and attentive to the details as the chief is you have a great spot to dine at in NJ.
Dinner was perfect from start to finish. We started with the duo of salmon appetizer. It was fresh and delicious. We shared the Rack of Lamb for two. The meat was cooked to perfection! It was served with potatoes, mushrooms, onions and grilled radicchio. The pablano vinaigrette was a nice accompaniment and complemented the lamb very nicely. For dessert, we had the warm English date pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The restaurant is BYOB Peter Shields is the BEST restaurant in Cape May!
Very disappointed. Portions were small, way overpriced. Location is good. Service average. Went to celebrate anniversary and we were very disappointed. Would not return or recommend. Definitely not a top 100 restaurant as advertised given quality and portions of the food. Pork chop undercooked; fish was very dry. Appetizers were minuscule. Bread was not fresh.
This is our favorite restaurant in the area! We have never had anything but a wonderful experience! Always top notch!
Arrived there to celebrate my wife's 65th birthday. My #1 rated restaurant in Cape May. Fabulous menu with choice of 4 course or 7 course fixed price meal or a great menu. We started with the house salad and the beet/fig/barrata. Our excellent entrees were poached halibut with gnocchi and seared scallops over crab and corn risotto. Both excellent. Finished with the chocolate lava cake and vanilla ice cream. Wonderful location, great service and BYOB. What a bonus! I highly recommend
The lamb was perfection. The entire meal was flawless as was the service, thanks Sean.
As a first time patron at this restaurant, I was impressed with the location, the decorations, and landscaping outside. The inside of the restaurant was lovely, and the hostess was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We requested an outside table, which was made immediately available to us. We had a lovely view from our table, and we were trying to enjoy our drinks, but were swarmed by fruit flies! They were everywhere! They flew into my glass of wine, and were beyond annoying. We finally could not stand it anymore, and we had the waiter light a candle on the table, with hopes that it would stop the activity. Unfortunately, it did not, and the waiter agreed to seat us inside, which was fine. Had there not been so many fruit flies (possibly DOZENS!), we would have preferred to remain seated at our outside table. The service was fine, but I found myself pouring my own wine, and my own bottled water. I would not expect that at a restaurant of that caliber. Our food was good; nothing special, and nothing outstanding. We were told by the waiter that we were in for a special treat, but we only found our food to be average/good. I would not recommend this restaurant because there was nothing special there that I feel I would need to go back for. There are plenty of other fine restaurants to try in the area, and I seriously don't think I would ever go back.
Excellent meal during our last minute vacation in Cape May. I had the scallops and my husband had the filet. Both were perfectly prepared.
Well, my expections were high and PSI did not disappoint. It’s such a beautiful setting and food was outstanding. Very tasty and perfect portions. The only negative thing I’d say was that, although the service was good, I felt like the server tried to be too casual. Peter Shields Inn isn’t a causal place. Excellent quality service takes more effort and the servers at PSI need to learn and perform service that should stand out to other restaurants in the area that aren’t on the same level as PSI. Service is often the weak link in most restaurants unfortunately, and PSI has a few issues on this end as well. Other than that, we will return for the food and atmosphere for darn sure.
Great food and service good to be back for a great meal
Truly a fine dining adventure. Felt like a Michelin 2 star restaurant in Paris
My wife and I regularly eat at Peter Shields for special occasions or just “date nights” when we are able to get a babysitter. Food and service has never disappointed and always been top notch. On of our favorites and “go to” places in Cape May
This lovely venue is top notch. Staff are professional and friendly. Food is superb. Menu is varied. In the several days we were in Cape May, this was by far the best meal I had and in the most attractive setting.
Dinner was great excellent. Our Server Dan was extraordinary pleasant well versed!
Beautiful mansion turned restaurant. Beachfront! Food - delicious!! Service - Excellent!! Had the fixed price menu that was offered during the week so it was a bargain.
We had an end of summer meal here on a Saturday night. We've been coming here for years and use it as a special restaurant we treat ourselves to from time to time. It never disappoints. We were there the night they changed over their menu to fall. And this was the first time we ate at the outside porch area which was lovely. Our server TJ was wonderful and took great care of us as do all the regulars like Kim who we've been served by for years and her counterpart whose name escapes me at the moment, but he's tall with an accent and awesome as well. We shared a salad that had poached pears with cheese and nuts and was delectably dressed and they even split it for us before bringing it out which makes it so much easier. I had the bronzino over vegetables and some potato puree. I did find it a bit salty but as it mixed through with the vegetables it did work. Hubby had the steak with risotto and when he asked if he could have something other than the mushroom risotto since he doesn't eat mushrooms, they offered him risotto without mushrooms so you know everything is made fresh and to order. To top it all off we shared the chocolate lava cake with ice cream which is always delicious. Being able to bring our own wine makes it affordable as well. It gets difficult for me to dine there at times due to a mobility disability, but it's worth it and last time, they let us know that we could exit from the downstairs so we went down to use the restroom at that time and were able to get out at street level.
Beautiful, romantic, excellent food and service. Scallops are a must try along with the halibut! Perfection.
Yum yum yum yum.
A must for good food nice atmosphere and friendly service
need to work on their rolls. rolls were not warm and didn't have flavor. everything else was delicious.
Went with another couple for the price fix dinner. (A little early for Cape May standards—served until 5:30, but skip lunch to enjoy!) Dan, our jovial and knowledgeable waiter, provided expert service and information about each offering, changing some sides without complaint. I enjoyed my tuna tartare over mango salsa with ginger-flavored crema, while our dining companions raves about the delicately-flavored vinaigrette on the endive salad. Each of us had a different entree from the price fix menu: hubby loved his chicken, declaring it like nothing he ever tasted before. Friends found the duroc pork chop moister than in any restaurant, and my bronzino was a generous portion with crisped skin. Sublime! Bread pudding had a wonderful, cake-like, not gummy texture.
My only complaint was the volume of noise in the dining room as the midweek evening wore on.
One of the best anywhere, a visual and epicurean treat.
Great ambiance, food and service. Would highly recommend it.
Second visit, everything again spot on. Tables slightly close together on the (enclosed) porch where we were seated, but refreshingly quiet- a rarity now. Our server, RJ, and apparently the kitchen, knowledgeable and accommodating of a gluten allergy. Not cheap but pretty reasonable for the quality of food and atmosphere.
Pretty average. Kind of bland old people food. I definitely prefer the ebbit room or the red store for dinner.
Fabulous!! Loved everything!!! Our waiter RJ was terrific. Will return one day!!
