Pete Miller's Seafood and Prime Steak - Evanston Ratings and Reviews
Had reservations for valentines dinner at 7:00. Arrived a little early and after waiting 10 minutes in the car for valet the manager came out and said there was no valet available at the moment because there were too many cars !!?? Husband dropped me off and went out searching for street parking which he found about 4 blocks away. After a cold walk back we were seated in the back room next to an exit door where you could feel the cold wind blowing through. No wonder that room was empty. Requested another table and were seated near the band because they pulled a 4 Top apart so we were basically sitting 2 inches away from strangers. Initial service was awful.. took about 15 minutes to put in our drink order. Food was average.. weak wine list. Just a disappointment for a special expensive dinner. Won’t be going back but the band was good!
My wife and I enjoyed a superb meal during the week.
The entree, dessert, cocktail and wine excellent. We had a great female server who was right on target with her suggestions regarding entree choice and dessert.
All restaurant staff very nice including the valet.
Nice jazz ensemble and great ambiance.
This restaurant is a great asset to the Evanston area.
My 4th time there... it has been awhile. Their prices dramatically increased and the portions were 50-60% of the size before. Totally NOT worth it. $35 for lamb chops.. 3 small lamb chops..? not that good. My daughter ordered a caesars salad and lobster bisque soup. more like a cup of soup and 1/3 portion of salad... more like a side salad, but it was the regular portion.
Likely won't go again. Sad.
Love this place. It fell off in quality for a few years but it's back. Really good steaks, good wine list, excellent cocktails and live jazz every night. Best value: grab a burger at the bar and enjoy the comprehensive bourbon and scotch selection, and the live music.
We went here on a very cold night and it was quite cool at our table. The maitra d was very accomodating and offered to move us. Instead, he brought a space heater. Our server was very good, although she didn't tell me that the sauce for the scallops was made with red peppers, which I had told her I dislike. The glass of wine I got was very small - so next time I would opt for a bottle, at least you know what you are getting. My husband had a filet - he said it was good, but not as tender as the ones we get at the super market. The calamari app was very tasty.
I typically have great experiences here, but this last visit was a disappointment. It took a very long time for our entrees to arrive and two had to be sent back because one was too rare and the other was barely warm. The server brought three desserts to appease us, which was nice, but I'd rather we received a discount from the check. We were at the restaurant for two hours, it took 50 minutes for our entrees. We'll go again at some point, but not soon.
My wife absolutely loved the Salmon & Prawn Brodo and my 14oz Boneless Ribeye was perfect for every bite with an even Medium cooked from end to end. I added the Alaskan King Crab and the sauteded mushrooms which for me were just the right touch. The King Crab was flakey and a great counter point to the steak. Both my wife and I really enjoyed finishing off the entire bowl of shareable Brussel Sprouts! The La Marca Prosecco for my wife and my Falesco Tellus Merlot were outstanding for our different meals. We meant to take just one desert to share back to our hotel for later, but couldn't agree so shared both the Death by Chocolate Cheesecake and the Key Lime Tart. They were both to die for.
We went to Pete Miller's for a New Years Eve dinner. The food was great! The people watching was entertaining. Our waiter was attentive but not overly attentive. They had two jazz bands going in separate rooms, but we were still able to have a conversation. I highly recommend the restaurant.
Celebrating our anniversary here was a good choice. With a traditional steakhouse feel, they have a full bar and large, old styled booths in a semi formal setting. A jazz duo was playing the night we were there and they were a great add-on to the traditional decor.
We started out with old fashions using our favorite bourbon and I have to say, those were the best old fashions we ever had! I also had a cab with my steak and it was just ok, their wine list was a bit small and uninteresting. We loved our steak, lobster tail and short rib ravioli! Quite filling and delicious! We each had a different salad, plentiful and tasty. The bread and butter were an outrageously savory treat with our salads. Dessert was the flourless chocolate mousse cake which was outstanding. In sum, if you don’t mind the traditional steakhouse setting, it’s a great place for steak and seafood. We will be back!
Our reservation was for 6:30 on Christmas Eve. We arrived (party of 2) at 6:20, ordered our meal at 6:30 and left at 7.!!!!!!! We had no time to even enjoy the appetizers when the main courses arrived. We felt very rushed. We were seated in a high traffic area & the room was cold. My friend ordered a non-spicy Bloody Mary and it arrived spicy. The shrimp cocktail arrived on a huge bed of ice in a huge bowel that took up most of the space in front of me. The shrimp weren’t properly peeled and had large strands hanging from them! Very unappetizing. The sea bass had no flavor. We were so disappointed with everything.
We were very impressed with the décor of the restaurant. It was like stepping back into a steak house of years past. The drinks were very well done and the food was excellent. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We had the tuna on sorba noodles, bone in filet and ribs and all were great. Valet parking also made the visit easy. I would highly recommend this place.
Although very crowded with two private parties, our waiter was very attentive to the two of us! Noise level was a little louder than usual, and the jazz singer could have lowered her volume slightly, but overall it was a delightful evening with great steaks!
Our waiter was fiendly and informative and lwe loved the live, Jazz Christmas music, even on a cold, snow Monday night! Our food was cooked perfectly and they even had a kids meal with a petite filet. Everyone was so nice to our son in this very grown up restaurant! We will defintely be going back again!
We have been Pete Miller's regulars forever, but I have to say that the food on Saturday night was disappointing. The lobster tails were incredibly dry and stringy, and a guest in my party said her lamb chops were not particularly good. Still, the appetizers, salads and sides were excellent, as always, and the staff tried hard to stay on top of the service which was a challenge as the restaurant filled to capacity. We will be back, but we might wait until the season changes and more fresh options are available.
I was there for my brothers birthday. I had the short rib ravioli, which I tasted more pasta than short rib. The Lobster bisque soup was very good. I had a cucumber Margarita which was quite tasty , and the Bananas foster for dessert, very yummy. I would definitely go back. It is a bit pricey, but we had a live Jazz quartet for entertainment ,so it makes sense when the bill comes.
Purchased a gift card for the place at a silent auction benefit, so the splurge was easier to swallow, so to speak. Not one to normally indulge in a costly, quality steak and seafood dinner, I was looking forward to an old-school experience and the place didn't disappoint. Service was excellent, though slightly less formal than the price point would suggest. My last such dinner was at the Cape Cod Room, where the service was more buttoned up. Server was knowledgeable of the menu and ingredients, dishes served up hot, cooked and seasoned properly and tastefully presented. Seated in a quiet corner of the dining room so the live music was a nice backdrop that allowed for easy conversation. Wine list is accessible, not extravagant. Overall almost exactly as expected.
Ok there is definately a change in vibe since management switched. The menu on one sheet is just tacky, none of the old house special or charms is there. I noticed something was out of place when I saw the utensils and salt and pepper dispensers. Seriously lack of detail in such a high staple in evanston, is just bad business. I pray things change
