The food is exquisite. Our server Mariah outstanding. Great value and great food
Valentines dinner. Would highly recommend! Food and service excellent.
Great food and service. A little pricey, but quality food. Plentiful portions. Will return.
Excellent food. Ravioli special to die for. Pork chop was as good as any we have had.
I almost couldn't leave this review because the restaurant "cancelled" the reservation after the fact, thus preventing me from leaving a review. I had to contact OpenTable (OT) to reinstate the reservation.I left a review on TripAdvisor (TA) when I couldn't leave a review on OT, and lo and behold, I got a notification from TA that someone had flagged my (100% legitimate) review as violating their terms of service. Likely a rep from the restaurant trying to suppress my review, like they tried to on OT (fortunately TA has not taken it down). I am probably not the only one this has happened to which is likely why the majority of reviews for this restaurant are positive. We were not rude or mean but rather honest about our issues in a polite way but clearly the restaurant does not want anyone to know when a customer has a bad experience & why they are still so popular & can charge fairly expensive prices for bad food/service. Our issues -
--Horrible smell in their new room where we were seated. Everyone in my 9-person party smelled it. Staff is now immune to it; they had no idea what we were talking about.
--Food improperly cooked: Chix livers tough, pastas mushy and flavorless; garlic flatbread app w/Caesar salad/shrimp: flatbread was stale, salad overdressed shortribs tough & basically slices of brisket (unlike any shortribs I've ever had)
--Bad service: this is a BYO and they did not put our white wine on ice. 1/2way through the meal I realized that the bottles were just sitting on the table we had a large party server rarely checked in on us, most of the time when we needed something we had to flag down the busser or another server
I relied on the good reviews to bring my family there, but was ultimately embarrassed that I brought them there. I will not return.
Best experience ever
We went to Pescatore on Valentines Day. We had a reservation for 9:15 but we did have to wait a little in the tiny vestibule with other diners. I think they were extra busy because of the holiday. We ended up ordering the $55 prix fix. I had an arugula and burrata salad, bronzino and tiramisu. The salad was good, a little over dressed for my taste and I might have enjoyed more greens. The burrata was excellent. I also really enjoyed the fish and dessert. My husband had an arugula and crab salad which he liked but also found overdressed. He did not like the veal chop he ordered. I think he liked the limoncello cake but I didn’t. The wait staff was very pleasant. The back room could use some ambiance. Kind of reminded me of a hall.
Lobster bisque, lobster tail with pappardelle, crab and arugula salad and veal all were delicious. Prices and service are good. Just a bit noisy but on Valentine’s Day it was busy and good.
Had a reservation for Valentines Day. Just a short wait. Seated in new extended dining area. Was a nice add to expand their seating; area was decorated nicely as well. Had option to order from their regular menu or the fixed VD menu; we chose the fixed VD 3-course meal. Everything on the menu sounded great and all our full meals (4) tasted great. Prices were fair. Service was good. BYOB was nice. Will be going there again.
Delicious delicious delicious!!!! We always enjoy eating at Pescatore’s! And being a byob makes it a good value!
Can’t wait to go Bach !
Great meals! The portions were huge! The staff was very nice. Can't wait to go back!
Dinner for 10 at Pescatore! The staff was friendly, the food was delicious, and we all really enjoyed the live entertainment that played all our favorite tunes! Will definitely be coming back!
The atmosphere, service and food were top notch. The waitstaff was super friendly and accommodating! I had the seafood pescatore and it was delicious! The gravy had a ton of lump crab meat in it! Also, the desserts were to die for, particularly the homemade tiramisu. I’d highly recommend if you are looking for a good Italian meal!
Great evening with friends! Glad we chose here, the food was great, love a good BYOB too. Super cute inside - great for a date or a dinner with friends. Service was friendly and attentive. I’ll be back!
I went here with 3 work colleagues and all thought the food was delicious! I would especially recommend the long hots with an outstanding tomato sauce/gravy :). A little delay between our apps and entrees, and needing to request additional water got 4 stars instead of 5, but I’ll definitely be back, and refer to friends!
Excellent excellent excellent. Our 2nd time there & did not disappoint. Party of 4. Appetizers grilled octopus, fritto misty, & special Caesar salad were all delicious ($25.95 seemed high). Sunday gravy was a large portion & also quite good. Sea bass special was made to perfection. A large slice of chocolate cake topped off out dinner.
This was my second time coming to this restaurant and I still love it! Food was great, byob and I was celebrating another birthday there and they was very accommodating! Mariah our waitress was knowledgeable and very nice! I will be back!
Dated decor- odd smell. No vibe. Food was average. Server was fantastic!
I was visiting the area on business and came across this hidden gem! The service, ambiance, and food was impeccable. I ordered the sea bass and it was to die for! On a higher note the BYOB aspect added to the tremendous value. Will certainly be back! Highly recommended!
We had an excellent time at Pescatore this weekend! Our server was friendly and accommodating. She recommended the flatbread special and It was delicious! I will definitely look to them the next time I’m planning dinner out with friends or a private party. 5 star experience!
Always a good meal at Pescatore! We were a party of 4 and all enjoyed very much. Service was very good to go with a great time. Highly recommend it!
Good food, accommodating with special diet
Birthday good time delicious food little over priced for smaller portions
I would recommend but would definitely want to eat dinner in the cozy older room of the restaurant. We sat in the new room which is oddly cold and not cozy and atmospheric like one would expect as reflected in the adjoining room. Honestly, it was hard to figure out what they were thinking when decorating the new room.
Easily one of the best restaurants, byob or otherwise, on the Main Line. Fish was great, veal was great, always appropriately tasty and VERY fresh. My biggest complaint is that Pescatore is not in Bryn Mawr.
Dinner for four on a Sunday night. We understood going in that this was a heavily seafood oriented menu. However we were disappointed to see how unusual many of the options were and how few pasta dishes were available. And, even the pasta dishes were seafood oriented. They did serve bread at the table however it came cold and hard and basically looked like it just came out of a box. The wait staff was pleasant but certainly was not what I would call attentive. Once we decided on main dishes I have to say the food itself was for the most part quite good Though as I indicated we felt the selection was quite unusual and not exactly anything to go crazy over. We really did have a hard time deciding what we wanted, not because of too many selections, but primarily because they were too few really worth looking at.One member of the party got veal which left a bit to be desired. And the thing is the overall atmosphere always really on the dingy side. Being a neighborhood restaurant that can be expected of course. But looking around at the walls in the floors and everything it really was a bit unsettling to see how the place has been kept up.Overall we are certainly glad we gave this restaurant a shot, but honestly we would not go back again.
I’ve dined at Pescatore several times in the past, but this experience drove me to write my first Pescatore review. They have recently expanded- which brings our neighborhood a beautiful update. They have the quaint charming dining room and now a gorgeous new room for private parties and an expanded dining area. As always, our meals were delicious with large portions. The chef was able to cater to my daughter’s vegan diet. If you are looking for a traditional Italian meal in the area, you can’t beat Pescatore. The money we save on dining at this BYOB will keep us as loyal customers!
We were celebrating with very close
Friends for my husbands birthday. We loved the appetizers and special salad. My husband thought his entre was salty. I had the bronzino which was very good not the best I’ve ever had. Our friends liked there meals. They brought a dessert with a candle and sang happy birthday which we thought was a very nice touch. Overall we liked our meal , the ambience, and would definitely come back again.
The food was absolutely delicious! We ate everything we ordered the flatbed Caesar salad was delicious! We had the specials for the night ! I had The Bronzino and my husband had stuffed veal chop ! Delicious!!! We had the big chocolate cake for dessert , server was Knowledgeable and professional! Can’t wait to go back ! They just expanded, we are going to have my daughters bridal shower there this spring !!!!!!
Overall, I was disappointed. The service was great, but the food was only average. Tried the chicken and the fish. Both could, have used seasoning. Everything was flat. Also, thought that the bread could have been better, since they made an effort to present it with shaved cheese and a pesto oil mix. Too bad the bread did not come up to the presentation. Apps were average as was the risotto. The best item we had on the menu was the artichokes.
The service is always wonderful and the food is prepared to preference, fresh and delicious!! Never disappointed.
Went for a spur of the moment dinner out. Our review is very much like the inside of the place— half good, half just ok. One half of the dining area is charming and dimly lit with twinkle lights while the other half is bright and under spotlights. The menu had items that sounded good but many had too many add-ons. Crabmeat where it didn’t belong, including in the lobster bisque. Salads with too many extras— apples, figs, and cranberries and nuts and cheese. Sides like Brussels sprouts were cooked to death and could use a lighter hand. The plate came with way too much on it (also a theme). This place has potential but needs to edit what they have. (Also why not Maine lobster tail? Not sure why South African is on the menu.)
In general this was good but could be better. Hopefully they will look at feedback and tweak a few things.
Nothing special about the food. To the point, I've never known my husband not to finish a pasta dish but he barely passed the 50 yard line with the torteloni (a basic pasta dish). The vealin my Veal Sinatra was tough and flavorless and featured jarred peppers, simply unacceptable for a feature ingredient. The tiramisu had something in it that was soured. Blech, blech, blech.
Once again a visit with great food and service. The service is always professional and friendly. The menu options are exceptional, as well as the optional specials. We enjoyed the stuffed veal chop and Chilean sea bass at a recent visit. The new expanded dining room was a pleasant surprise.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was quaint, warm welcoming, and BYOB. The waitress was knowledgeable, super patient, polite with a great personality. Our appetizer was a salad served on pita bread, topped with romaine lettuce, shrimp and crab meat with some type of mystery house dressing. It was Delicious!
For entrees I had the Veal Pavarotti. This dish was posted on-line, but surprisingly enough it was not
on the menu at the restaurant. The waitress made a special trip to the Chef to see if I could have this dish prepared, and she returned to the table with a yes. Online the ingredients for Veal Pavarotti consist of veal medallions, gulf shrimp, prosciutto di parma, mozzarella, mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, marsalla demi-glace. I was excited about receiving the entrée only to find it was a total disappointment. The veal was over cooked – a little tough, the prosciutto was flavorless, there was no shrimp, nor were there sundried tomatoes, and the mushrooms were from a jar or a can. The Veal was served with brussels sprouts, which at best, were simply ok.
My niece had Lobster Di Mare housemade pappardelle, south african lobster tail, pancetta, provolone picante, tomato, onion, pomodoro which she raved about as being delicious. Her husband had a dish of spaghetti with shrimp and clams that he said was very good. It was my birthday, I was the guest at the table, so the last thing that I wanted to do was complain about anything and take the joy out of the special occasion. I indulged my meal quietly and lied about the quality and flavor of my dish. The truth is my entrée was a huge disappointment. If I dine at Pescatore’s again, I will be sure to stick to whatever is on the menu. If I return.
This was our first visit, at dinner on Christmas Eve. The overall service was very good, particularly considering that the restaurant was busy. I dined with my wife and son, and we all had three course dinners. The food overall is about average for an Italian restaurant, with none of our choices being really outstanding. Interestingly, none of us felt completed satisfied when finished, though the portions seemed adequate.
If you are in the Bala Cynwyd vicinity, you may want to try this restaurant when you have the urge for Italian food, but otherwise, I wouldn't recommend too long of a drive; you'll likely find a similar quality of Italian food in your own backyard.
My second visit and just as delicious as my first! If you like chicken livers, make sure you dine here. Everything is very fresh and the portions are very generous. We had the burrs ya & meatballs too. Entrees included sea bass, Nona’s Sunday spaghetti, lobster&crab, scallops & the veal chop special. We all loved our meals. The noise level in the back room can get a bit loud but the food compensates. BYOB is a plus too.
The food was great and the server was personable. It’s a little expensive for some of the dishes (depending on the portion size of the dish) but overall a hidden gem in Bala that’s perfect for a special night out.
Too noisy on a Saturday night. Will return when less busy, any night but Saturday
This used to be an excellent restaurant. Recently it expanded, and they have not yet adjusted. My hot appetizer of meatballs came out of the kitchen cold, my entree of pork chops and brussel sprouts took forever to come out of the kitchen and was cold also. The others in my party complained of the same problem. We didn't stay for dessert. I would not recommend this restaurant any longer.
