Persimmons Waterfront Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Good food, service could have been better. Server was polite and met our needs but did not review specials, the chef’s beef of the day, or veggie of the day, etc. had to flag her down a few times for her attention. We were not given napkins either, had to hunt some down. Overall good food but I feel lime the servers need bettter training. For the price, I would expect much better service. Try the fried brussel sprouts, they were great.
The service was excellent (Nikki), the food was good, and it was nice to know their products are purchased from local suppliers. However, there is a lot to be desired. It is Very noisy, not romantic at all for a Valentine/Anniversary/Date dinner, has a small selection of foods, and is extremely overpriced!
Tried this restaurant several years ago and was very impressed with the food and service. However, when we returned expecting the same unique experience we found that the quality and service had degraded, so we decided to stop going. That was two years ago. On a whim this year we went back and our experience was as impressive as the first time. The food and service was great. It is a bit pricey but the food choices and quality were outstanding - all locally sourced. Service was very good. However, do not sit at table 21 it is very cramped. And, yes we will be returning.
We have come here a number of times and the food is always great. It is one of the few places in New Bern that updates their menu, so there is almost always something new to try. The cocktails are always perfect. The portions aren't huge, but theyre not supposed to be, but we always leave full. I ordered the Pork Chops and it was one of the best I have ever had. My husband got the ribeye and always loves the quality of the meat they serve. The rotating butchers cut is always a good choice.
Nice location with parking and great water views. Menus trendy and awkward to handle. Food was VERY good. Wine list has great by the glass variety. Service could use a bit of polish to match the high end experince they aspire to achieve. Overall, this was a fine meal in a nice setting.
For several years after they opened, Persimmons seemed to run hot and cold.......good and not-so-good. With new ownership and new management however, our experience has been consistently great. As locals, we probably eat there every 2 months. Our New Years Eve dinner this evening was perfect. Perfectly cooked food. Great drinks. Super service from Nikki. All around awesome!!
Persimmons is the jewel of New Bern. It has wonderful entrees and sides. We went on New Years Eve. We both ordered filet mignon and twice baked potatoes. The filet was tender and perfectly prepared. (I can highly recommend the peppercorn sauce)
We ordered dessert too. My husband had the berry cobbler with ice cream, and I had the New York cheese cake with berries. Both desserts were to die for. Persimmons is a higher priced restaurant, but it is worth it.
I love the fact that you can dress casually!
This restaurant used to be fabulous. It's one of the most attractive in New Bern.
I generally do not complain but I was so disappointed with the food here. We had Sunday Brunch and I had to send my omelet back because it was cold as did our guest. When the waiter brought it back, it was still cold. He brought the other guest at my table a freshly cooked omelet but mine had been microwaved. I sent it back again and was served a warm omelet but it was still mediocre and by the time I was served, the guests at my table had almost finished their meals. Everyone at my table was disappointed with their food and the less than good service. It was so inferior to my previous experiences here. I was embarrassed to have recommended and taken my guests to dine here.
Waitress was nice, she tried hard and did very well--food was a bit pricey but very good--creative and well made with care and presented beautifully! Their sage vinaigrette salad dressing was truly outstanding, we even bought some to take home with us!
Only wierd thing was that they apparently ran out of bread! We arrived at 6:45 so not late at all, but I think they didn't count on all the patrons they had! She managed to find us some, probably not their usual offering but it was good anyway! Otherwise, food was wonderful and we would go back!
We recently moved to the New Bern area from Southern California. We are foodies, and Persimmons is outstanding.
My husband and I enjoyed this filet mignon because it was perfectly prepared. It was cooked to order and the meat was tender and juicy.
A friend of ours ordered the shrimp and grits, which he said was excellent. Our other friend ordered "the special" which was a ravioli. She couldn't stop talking about how delicious it was.
The service was outstanding. The wait staff was attentive and informative.
We eat out a lot, and I would rank Persimmons in the top five restaurants we've experienced. That ranking includes restaurants in Southern California!
Yes, Persimmons costs a bit more, but it is worth every penny.
This restaurant was within walking distance of our hotel, and the location on the water is beautiful. It was comfy and quiet, and the service was great.
Food was delicious! My husband had the short rib with white truffles; pricey, but he really enjoyed it! I️ opted for the fresh catch (grouper) and it was also amazing! Sauces nicely flavored, and we had plenty to eat without additional sides (although we both ordered a small salad; not on the menu). Vanilla dressing was very nice. And decaf coffee was a great way to end this truly special meal
The server was ok, but she was constantly disclosing items the restaurant did not have; no oysters, some dishes unavailable. She did miss a few instructions. Salad come out beautiful, but was ordered without onions. On the redo, salad came back half the size. The calamari is worth it. Try it. Friend tomatoes were good, but heavy on the breading flavor. The steak was cooked to perfection. As this was dinner for four, and my cost of $250, restaurants like this should never not have any ingredients though. They don’t run out of items at Chipotle and dinner for four costs $220 less. I mean if you’re missing mushrooms for the steak, get your but over to Piggly Wiggly or whatever you have to do to get it done, right? I’m not sure the location is something I would go back to unless I really had to. It’s a tough decision.
We ate outside in an unseasonable warm October, and it was delightful. Our server was a bit too smiley and chatty, but that’s better than being ignored. We ordered pretty ordinary fare (soup and sandwiches, fish and chips), so can’t judge the more creative offerings. We had reservations for a Saturday lunch, but I’m not sure they would have been necessarily. The outdoor patio area has only a couple of tables that are on the same level as the restaurant. The other areas require stairs. I observed several people with canes and a walker who apparently wanted to eat outside and had to opt for indoors.
Two weeks ago we were their and they ran out of decaf coffee. This visit they were out of Grey Goose Vodka. A restaurant of this caliber should not run out of these common items. On our previous visits the food was good. This visit not so much. They dinner music was good until half way through out dinner they shut if off. We will return when the weather permits comfortable outside dining but we will expect better.
