The wine list was OK, appetizers & entrees were great. There were many fine dining selections to select from. If you're a foody that likes the nice bistros in Paris - this is a fun choice on the Carolina east coast. They seem to be committed to the local sourcing of their menu as it is mentioned more than once. The service was attentive, thorough and full of personality! This restaurant obviously pays attention to the quality of their menu - and the server was a bonus! We did not take advantage this time, however, we did note that you could drive your boat up to the restaurant - pretty fantastic option.
Phenomenal! They say the better the view, the worse the food but Persimmons turns this on its head. Yes, the view is stunning but the food is even better. We went for Sunday brunch and I'd have to say it was the best brunch I've EVER had. Awesome service. I will be back for lunch or dinner very soon. You will not be disappointed.
Lovely restaurant with romantic atmosphere and decent wine list. We went for an anniversary. It’s off season, but I imagine eating on the deck would be nice in the warmer weather. My fish was well cooked, but didn’t include all the ingredients listed, and the wine pours are quite small. My partner’s chicken and dumplings had nice seasoning and was presented beautifully, but the dumplings were a bit gelatinous and didn’t have enough chicken.
Special farm to table
The only not so high rating was the bar. The Margarita my wife ordered wasn't prepared right; tasted too sweet. According to our waitress the bartender was not too familiar with making drinks. She didn't finish her drink and later ordered a glass of the wine I selected. Other than that everything else was delicious.
Our party was seated promptly at our reservation time. Service initially was prompt but then really tailed off throughout the rest of the evening. The service was very slow even though the restaurant was not that busy on a Saturday evening at 7:30pm. All dinners were very good but for the price, the shrimp and grits should have more of each item. Menu is a bit pricey.
Great meal...no complaints; we always like Persimmons for the waterfront view and consistently good food and service~
Love to visit Persimmons personally, but a party member’s steak wasn’t cooked to her request.
The restaurant has wonderful views but the food is less than stellar and quite pricey, Cosmo was mostly water. Sauted farm greens were inedible. Shrimp and grits passable. The spicey potato cake (special side for the night) was visually unappealing and not good.
The water view is nice but the food just isn't special. The menu sounds better than it is.
Wonderful creative meal. Always great choices and specials.
My wife and I were first-time visitors to the new Bern waterfront area. We asked several locals as to where would be a good dinner on the water for a date they recommended persimmons. We were extremely pleased with the waitstaff the food and the cocktails. I would recommend highly. We will definitely visit or next trip and look forward to having the same waitstaff
It was a little chilly but beautiful sitting by the water.
Great service and even better food! A must go when in New Bern.
Awesome food and great staff. Will definitely be returning.
We went for dinner and just got appetizers: fried green tomatoes and fried oysters. Doesn't sound like much but the other ingredients made it delicious. Next time we will try an entree but the appetizers are really good.
Delicious miss the crab roll though!
Great restaurant with a view and dishes you will find nowhere else in New Bern.
Good food, service could have been better. Server was polite and met our needs but did not review specials, the chef’s beef of the day, or veggie of the day, etc. had to flag her down a few times for her attention. We were not given napkins either, had to hunt some down. Overall good food but I feel lime the servers need bettter training. For the price, I would expect much better service. Try the fried brussel sprouts, they were great.
The service was excellent (Nikki), the food was good, and it was nice to know their products are purchased from local suppliers. However, there is a lot to be desired. It is Very noisy, not romantic at all for a Valentine/Anniversary/Date dinner, has a small selection of foods, and is extremely overpriced!
We ordered the Valentine Pre Fixe. It was okay, but nothing special. $165.00 for two. It was not at all a good value. We were disappointed.
As always, enjoyed dining at Persimmons Restaurant. The service was excellent. We felt a lot of personal warmth and attention from the server. The chicken and dumplings meal was tasty.
a nice venue with a higher price point than most restaurants in New Bern. We had a gift card and that was the overwhelming reason we went there.
Tried this restaurant several years ago and was very impressed with the food and service. However, when we returned expecting the same unique experience we found that the quality and service had degraded, so we decided to stop going. That was two years ago. On a whim this year we went back and our experience was as impressive as the first time. The food and service was great. It is a bit pricey but the food choices and quality were outstanding - all locally sourced. Service was very good. However, do not sit at table 21 it is very cramped. And, yes we will be returning.
Not a very good experience. Steak was tough and potatoes were bland.
We have come here a number of times and the food is always great. It is one of the few places in New Bern that updates their menu, so there is almost always something new to try. The cocktails are always perfect. The portions aren't huge, but theyre not supposed to be, but we always leave full. I ordered the Pork Chops and it was one of the best I have ever had. My husband got the ribeye and always loves the quality of the meat they serve. The rotating butchers cut is always a good choice.
Great meal. Great setting. Great service.
Nice location with parking and great water views. Menus trendy and awkward to handle. Food was VERY good. Wine list has great by the glass variety. Service could use a bit of polish to match the high end experince they aspire to achieve. Overall, this was a fine meal in a nice setting.
Amazing food and awesome service. Best place in New Bern to eat and relax!
Table next to us VERY LOUD.
The portions were TINY and the prices were ridiculous. My husband ordered his steak medium and it came out rare (blue). We will not be returning.
My wife and I went for New Year's Eve. We had an early reservation, so it wasn't crowded. The food was good and the service was fine, but it was a little pricey. If we were local, we would only go for special occasions because of the cost.
For several years after they opened, Persimmons seemed to run hot and cold.......good and not-so-good. With new ownership and new management however, our experience has been consistently great. As locals, we probably eat there every 2 months. Our New Years Eve dinner this evening was perfect. Perfectly cooked food. Great drinks. Super service from Nikki. All around awesome!!
Persimmons is the jewel of New Bern. It has wonderful entrees and sides. We went on New Years Eve. We both ordered filet mignon and twice baked potatoes. The filet was tender and perfectly prepared. (I can highly recommend the peppercorn sauce)
We ordered dessert too. My husband had the berry cobbler with ice cream, and I had the New York cheese cake with berries. Both desserts were to die for. Persimmons is a higher priced restaurant, but it is worth it.
I love the fact that you can dress casually!
This restaurant used to be fabulous. It's one of the most attractive in New Bern.
I generally do not complain but I was so disappointed with the food here. We had Sunday Brunch and I had to send my omelet back because it was cold as did our guest. When the waiter brought it back, it was still cold. He brought the other guest at my table a freshly cooked omelet but mine had been microwaved. I sent it back again and was served a warm omelet but it was still mediocre and by the time I was served, the guests at my table had almost finished their meals. Everyone at my table was disappointed with their food and the less than good service. It was so inferior to my previous experiences here. I was embarrassed to have recommended and taken my guests to dine here.
The food and service were both very good. Must try the Brussel Sprouts - delicious. The drinks at the bar were only ok - while trying to be creative the alcohol gets lost in the equation. Looking forward to warm temps and sitting outside.
The food was incredible and we had he best service! Highly recommend!
Waitress was nice, she tried hard and did very well--food was a bit pricey but very good--creative and well made with care and presented beautifully! Their sage vinaigrette salad dressing was truly outstanding, we even bought some to take home with us!
Only wierd thing was that they apparently ran out of bread! We arrived at 6:45 so not late at all, but I think they didn't count on all the patrons they had! She managed to find us some, probably not their usual offering but it was good anyway! Otherwise, food was wonderful and we would go back!
Always my go to place to impress people, especially dates. The food is always good and different from other spots in town. Very creative and the tastes are exciting. Looking forward to my next visit.
We recently moved to the New Bern area from Southern California. We are foodies, and Persimmons is outstanding.
My husband and I enjoyed this filet mignon because it was perfectly prepared. It was cooked to order and the meat was tender and juicy.
A friend of ours ordered the shrimp and grits, which he said was excellent. Our other friend ordered "the special" which was a ravioli. She couldn't stop talking about how delicious it was.
The service was outstanding. The wait staff was attentive and informative.
We eat out a lot, and I would rank Persimmons in the top five restaurants we've experienced. That ranking includes restaurants in Southern California!
Yes, Persimmons costs a bit more, but it is worth every penny.
