Seated outside as requested but under a bright light on upper area so we couldn’t really see the view. Note: the menu has changed from what is posted on the website. No biscuits. Boo. Crispy black bass was delicious!! The flavor of the sweet potato risotto was good but the texture was a bit pasty. All in all a good meal. My husband had a scallop and crab pasta. Again, good flavor but runny. We will return and know how to request seating. We’ll also try the Brussel spouts. Service was excellent!!!
awesome al fresca waterfront dining in New Bern! the service and food was excellent, especially enjoyed the tomato pie!
Waitress said "I'll give you time to eat your starters before I order your entrees".
Entrees showed up less than 10 minutes later - we weren't half way thru the starters.
Entrees were sea bass with sides of risotto and "green beans". Beans were inedible, almost black, couldn't cut them with my knife. Pointed it out to waitress, whose solution was to offer us more "green beans". We declined.
Key lime "pie" dessert turned out to be two tiny tarts - more crust than custard.
Nobody died, but we ain't going back.
Perfect night. Food was great along with service. 10 out of 10
Maybe not a bad place if you are looking for appetizers or a sandwich, but steer clear of anything more complicated than that.
Great food, great service, great waterfront view, best in New Bern.
We were outside on the deck facing the water. Just beautiful!
Beautiful views, great service and food. A must visit when in New Bern.
It was a beautiful setting, wonderful food and a great server.
Loved everything about this place. We will be back!
Although this has been our "go to" place in New Bern, our most recent experience was bad. Our server was inattentive, leaving us (and surrounding tables) for long periods (15+ min) at a time, and forgetting items we requested (more bread, my father's coffee, more water, dressing on the side, etc.). Despite an apparent back up at the bar, which admittedly was not her fault, she never once said "I'm sorry for the wait." Nor did she bother to apologize for her prolonged absences. I wish wait staff would realize that a simple "I'm so sorry for the delay" goes a long way. After 15 min of waiting for her to appear, the table next to us left. Our bill was also incorrect.
We were also quite disappointed in the food. We have always found the food to be delicious but this time, my pasta (with scallops and crab) was terrible--the scallops were smaller than a dime, the crab was claw, and there was way too much oily pesto sauce. My father's crab cake and fried green tomatoes were also underwhelming, despite the fact that I got them myself less than a month ago and they were delicious.
And, while I hate to pile on, this is my 3rd visit where the women's restroom door doesn't work; in addition, two of the three toilets were broken.
To their credit, when I was finally so irritated that I got the attention of a manager who was wandering around, he did apologize profusely and gave us a gift card for our next visit.
I am hopeful that the issues with the food and service are a one-time thing. I also know (from experience) that being a waiter is not easy--customers can be jerks when service is perfect. But I also know that it's not hard to smile, be pleasant, apologize for mistakes and delays, and thank people. The manager did restore some of my faith in Persimmons, however, and hopefully they can get the rest of their act together soon.
While I will still recommend Persimmons and will return at some stage, it was a very disappointing visit all around.
The restaurant has a wonderful location on the Neuse River, with great views of the water. We sat outside, and I would recommend the outside deck weather permitting. The noise level inside was much higher.
The seafood was very good and our server was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Beautiful setting, good food and service. The menu was limited, but all we ate was delicious
Great food and drink with an expansive view of the Neuse River.
A must visit restaurant if you're visiting Nee Bern. Right on the water, great ambiance, terrific food.
Service was exceptional.
Nice place to gather with friends. Very cool setting with wonderful view
Good restaurant but upstairs is very noisy.
We went for our anniversary, the server was very nice, we enjoyed the ambiance, we were not as thrilled with the food, my husband got the fish tacos with Mahi, he said it was ok, but did not like the corn tortilla they came on, he was only able to eat one. I got the scallops and crab pasta, the pasta tasted like it was overwhelming with balsamic or red wine vinegar and had way too much feta cheese, I ate maybe a 1/4 of it, save the rest but ended up throwing it away because the next morning my stomach was tossing and turning.
The menu never changes and the date ordered the Scallop and crab pasta. Big mistake she did not enjoy it at all
Met all expectations on a Rainy but busy weekend, cheers to team Persimmons!
Lovely outdoor seating with a water view, friendly service, and great seafood and southern fare.
The atmosphere sitting outside was exceptional but there was an issue with a meal and did not appreciate the attitude from the waiter.
Food was outstanding, service started out amazing but as they got busy, no follow-up and I had to flag someone down to get the check.
Food was delicious. Unfortunately the kitchen neglected to make gluten free the dish ordered but the server was so V gracious and removed from the bill. She offered great service despite the mishaps.
As always, everything was perfect
Excellent food! Great location.
our server was working hard but never made us feel like she had her attention elsewhere. Exceptional. The food was also very good, worth coming back for another meal.
Price a bit high but not unreasonable.
But the after dinner drink was unbelievable and not in a good way.
So, eat the food and skip the bar unless you are ordering beer.
I had a delicious fresh piece of crab cake along with green fried tomatoes. Wonderful shaded outside patio with a view on the water. My Gysband enjoyed the Mahi Mahi with collards. Will definitely be back
Noisy- no tablecloths, drapes, carpets…to absorb sound…resulted in a very noisy dinner experience. My wife was delighted that they could prepare one dish with gluten free pasta (she has allergies). However…the pasta was not cooked all the way…it was actually crunchy. Also, the pale was served with two pieces of bread (not gluten free) on top of her pasta dish. My stars are extremely generous.
Unhappy with quality of my burger. Very thin. Service was great though and nice place. Just food wasn’t as good as should be. I know that it was just a burger but still not good.
These guys were swamped by people yesterday, but we were told when we made our reservation (for our anniversary) that we should arrive at least 15 mins early to get a table on the waterfront patio, and then when we got there they said we'd have to wait until the reservation time. It may have been means to get us to buy a drink in advance, but it was a bit frustrating to have to wait in a crowded area when we specifically wanted to be on the open-air patio.
Hushpuppies were overcooked and dry and cost $9,00
Food in general was ordinary.
Hostess were rude and unfriendly.
Persimmons is always good. However, we had made a reservation well ahead for 4 for a special occasion and specifically asked for a table outside. When we arrived we found that people without reservations were being seated outside ahead of us and when we got to the hostess she said we would have to wait 25-35 min for an outside table. If it is the policy that outdoor seating is first in line each day gets the table, this should be clearly stated on website. It is not fair for folks with disabilities that make it difficult to stand in line. We were very disappointed. Food and service ok.
Made a reservation for 6:30, and we arrived about 6:15. We were seated right beside a couple with a newborn baby when there were about 4, 2 person tables available. Our waitress took our drink orders, and my husband got his beer about 15 minutes later. They were out of the wine I ordered. I ordered the sirloin steak with a crab cake, and my husband ordered the scallop and crab pasta. He said it was not good. My steak was tough, and the crab cake was way too salty for me. The waitress finally brought me a steak knife when she saw that I couldn’t cut my steak. Ordered calamari, which was delicious, and brussel sprouts which were very bitter. The waitress took the brussel sprouts off the ticket, they were inedible. Other than that, the restaurant was very loud, nothing like it was last year when we visited. We won’t be back.
Hush puppies tasteless and hard. No sweetness like you would expect from Southern cooking. shrimp and grits not good. Waitress couldn't remember order and when food came to the table it was wrong. Only great part was views are spectacular. I would go to another restaurant for dinner and go hear for drinks and views.
We were the last seating on a Friday night. Wait staff was very friendly, however halfway through our meal, they began to close the dining area, upturned chairs on tables to clean the floor, etc. Made us feel a bit rushed. Fish and vegetables were a bit over done and the risotto was a bit under done, but had good flavor.
Best restaurant in New Bern! Their shrimp appetizer is delicious. The staff is outstanding! Sit outside, you won’t regret it!
Food and service were great, we will definitely be going again in the near future.
Would recommend sitting at bar for cocktails and apps
