We had scheduled a birthday dinner for my wife and had an amazing time. Our server Corey was incredibly helpful attentive and fun to interact with. He’s a rockstar. The food was amazing and we couldn’t have asked for better weather for the outside seating.
Our first time at this restaurant. The food, drinks, ambiance and our server Piper were excellent!! We will come back to this fantastic place with a beautiful view on the water!
We were seated earlier than our reservation. Which was fantastic. Our cocktails were very good. Our server (Carlie) was fantastic. She was attentive, with a great smile and personality. We decided to split our meal and the kitchen staff split it for us and served it. It was hot and delicious. A seafood pasta dish that was a perfect portion for sharing. I think we enjoyed the bread as much as the meal. It was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside.
We had a very good experience and will return.
Pierre was a great server, Mahi dish was a little over cooked but it was still really good. scallop pasta dish was good, key lime pie delicious, overall friendly staff and was just a really good dinner!
Never say you are celebrating a birthday. We are Sr. citizens and had a table upstairs with a room full of yelling children
I love kids but my ears hurt, my head hurt and we could not hear each other
We just sat in silence
A sad birthday party for my husband…
Waitress was great
The good news is that I have experienced a pleasant meal here in the past
I will never sit upstairs again!
Enjoyed sitting upstairs on a rainy night and watching the storm roll across the river. Our waitress had a 2-table party (about 18 folks) but that didn't stop her from being attentive and prompt with service to us. Enjoyed our entrees (sea bass for hubby and crab/scallop pasta for me). Hadn't been there in over 18 months, but we are already planning our return visit.
Food was delicious - love the local flavor and farm-to-table vibe! Mixed drinks were perfect and the desserts were lovely. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable and just right1!!! Thanks for a wonderful birthday dinner with the fam~
Enjoyed our dinner outside on the waterfront patio. Our server Sara was excellent!
Great food & cocktails. Be sure to sit outside on the patio for a great water view.
We are new to New Bern having lived here just under 3 months but Persimmons is one of our go to restaurants for date night. The drinks are great. The menu is wonderful with options for every palate. Recommend sitting on the dock if the weather permits. They often have live music and you just can't get enough of a great dinner with friends/family on the Neuse.
Delicious as usual. And very creative and tasty choices.
First time at Persimmons on a recommendation. Great setting right on the waterfront. Polite and friendly associates. Noticed right away that it was stuffy and too warm inside despite pleasant outdoor weather. Nice variety on menu. No specials. Ordered Shrimp & Grits. Served with a creole sauce and collards. Would have preferred collards as a side, as opposed to atop grits, and sauce was a distraction from flavor of grits. Enjoyed the butter cake with strawberries for dessert. Very tasty. Overall, pretty good meal but slightly less impressive than expected.
Both dinners were very flavorful! Server was very attentive. Will definitely return.
Great place to eat. Had a reservation for 630, but got there early and they were able to seat us ahead of time. Food was excellent and service was just as good!
The host was very unfriendly and not very accommodating. So much so that I dont think we will return.
Food was top notch and we liked that they had some small plates for the smaller appetite. Loved looking over the waterfront.
Great food and beautiful views
We came here back in March of 2020 and had a great dinner and service. Not so much this time, service was slow and very poor attitude. Food was not great either. I’m wondering if they had a complete turn over in staff and management. I recommended going to any of the other great restaurants in New Burn.
Took a chance and boy are we glad we did.
Food was so good and the service spectacular.
Wished I lived in the area, would go back often!
It was pretty avg. Nothing really stood out. Food was good but nothing I would drive 45 mins for again. Price point was reasonable for what you got. We waited 30 mins after our reservation time. It was very hot and humid inside the restaurant.
Arrived 10 minutes early for a 7 pm reservation only to be seated 8 10 pm. First available table was outside. Bugs were everywhere including the food. Appetizer came out barely ahead of the entrees. Second round of drinks never arrived. Recommended appetizer was just not good, entrees lacked seasoning.
Despite making a reservation, we still waited an hour for a table. The bar was packed and there was no one walking to take drink orders so we couldn't even get a cocktail while we waited. We were also forced to wait outside. Once we finally got to a table and placed our order, I checked with our server to ensure that food would be timed appropriately and that our appetizer would not arrive with our entrees. She assured us the kitchen would time everything appropriately. Unfortunately, she was wrong and in fact, both our appetizer and entree arrived to our table at the same time. I ordered a ribeye and they gave me a different cut of meat that was tasteless and too tough to even chew. No one mentioned that the cut of meat I ordered was not available. They just tried to pass off a lesser quality cut of meat as a ribeye. We brought this to our server's attention and asked for the check. By this point we were disgusted and just wanted to go home. We drove an hour to enjoy a nice upscale meal and had anything but. In addition, there was a large party across the room that hollered and clapped the entire time we were there. My husband and I couldn't even speak to each other across the table. We have been to Persimmons many times over the years (usually on a week night) and had stellar experiences each time. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. They are not equipped to handle large crowds and also provide high quality service and food. I would not recommend going on weekends or holidays. They have lost dependable repeat customers to the holiday weekend walk-up crowd.
This is in addition to review - our waiter
Corey upstairs was phenomenal!! He was so attentive & helpful & outstanding meeting all our needs .
Beautiful place. Food was outstanding. Would give 5 stars but it was miserably hot inside.
Appetizer, salad and entrees were served all at the same time! Waitress was not concerned about this when we complained.
If you enjoy jaw dropping water views, mouth watering food and having folks serve you as if you you are royalty, then Persimmons is the place for you.
Enjoyed the best Calamari ever, served with slaw and almost a meal in itself. Salad dressing was flavorful as was my crab cake and fried green tomatoes. Our new favorite restaurant in New Bern.
Love this restaurant! Service is always excellent, food and beverages are delicious.
Food was not good. The 4 of us made it through but won’t eat here again unless want a burger which is on the menu . Cooked oysters none of us could eat and we all like oysters . Rubbery with bad dressing sauce.
Went for a simple night out and was outstanding.
Have dined there many times. Sometimes good and often very good. This last occasion it was ghastly. Steak as tough as shoe leather, oysters tough and not fresh tasting , service friendly but not efficient, and all at a high cost. Food was also presented in such an unattractive manner that I thought I was back in a military chow line.... at least there food was better. If I ever go again it will only be because other city restaurants are all full and unavailable.
We had dinner at the restaurant in late May on a week nite. Crowd sparse and like it that way. Food creative and tasty. The NC-style Old Bay shrimp appetizer was done just right. We had blackenend tuna entre with a curry flavor and they split it for us very nicely, gratis. We ordered a side of greens which could have been more generous. Our waiter was great and service was good. Awesome location on the water yet walking distance from sites and shopping.
Seating was NOT what was requested. Food overcooked and fried hard.
The view of the water was nice and our waitress and bartender were also very nice. The food lacked flavor, the green tomatoes were thin and were missing any sort of flavor and although photos show a different type of French fry my husband recieved frozen fries, this could be my mistake I just expected homemade ones. We will continue on in checking out other places there are so many in the area.
We LOVE Persimmons but we brought out of town guests on Sunday and the music was WAY too loud. The artist was excellent but her volume distorted her high notes and they cut right through our ears. We asked our server to turn it down and she said the artist insisted it stay that loud which is too bad. Maybe you could put a note on OpenTable that you'll have loud music so people can make their choice.
The flying gnats were terrible. They flew into our meals. We couldn't complete our meal. My friends and i swatted gnats the entire time .Swarms of the gnats attacked our meals. Drove 2hrs 45 minutes to enjoy the experience. Didn't happen. But i love the restaurant and setting.
We had a great time and will return
The food was excellent
Great food and great service!
Food was great portions were small so you should consider an appetizer.
