Persimmons Waterfront Restaurant
As locals , we eat here often. Generally, I love Persimmons. You can’t beat the view. Great cocktails. The food is almost always wonderful. But the food and service are also hit or miss. Usually a hit......but sometimes not. And “not” often enough for me to notice. They seem to struggle when they’re super busy.....not being a restaurateur I don’t know how one handles biggg crowds. But that seems to be a challenge for Persimmons (missed reservations, food not the right temp, messy and not stocked rest rooms)......that said, we still love this place and are willing to take the good with the not-so-good. It’s walking distance for us and there’s almost nothing better on a beautiful day than sitting on their deck.
Thank You for your review! Our team will cover your concerns and ensure this is something we strive to meet.
We knew that we'd get good seafood and the seafood was terrific. Beyond that, we were blown away by the sides. We had the corn which had a mystery ingredient that we can't share and the crispy Brussel Sprouts were heavenly. The quantities were just right and the service was attentive, courteous, and warm. It was a wonderful date night in a strange city.
Thank You for the review!
Party of 6, which included two children. Ordering was prompt and appetizers were good but we waited way too long for our entrees and when we received them, the children's dinners were not included. They only ordered grilled cheese and fries and it took another 20 minutes for those to arrive. The scallops with risotto and the filet with crab were OK, but my pork ribeye and my husband's mahi mahi were cool and not prepared well. This is our fourth and last visit to Persimmons as each time the quality of the food and service has deteriorated further.
Sandy, we are sorry you encounter this experience at Persimmons. Our team will be covering your experience with all staff members and cooks to ensure no one endures the experience you encountered. We do hope you and your family revisit us in the future. Please contact management if needed to discuss further concerns.
Food was absolutely phenomenal! Definitely order one of the many side dishes and share ...we had the beet salad - the Mushroom and goat cheese and the brussel sprouts and pork dishes for our sides ..
Than You for your review Tracy!
Crab cakes were small and dry.
Service was great!
Somewhat noisy for conversation .
Thanks Suzan for the the review.
AMAZING Entrées... Very nice clam chowder as well. Waitress was very engaging and made great suggestions. I will be back and will bring friends...
Russell our clam chowder is pretty good and our waitresses are the best!
We had the scallops. The food was excellent, but $33 for THREE scallops? Come on.
We are excited that you enjoyed the Scallops Vickie. Thank you for the review.
My experience at Persimmons started with a warm greeting by the hostess. She located my Open Table reservation and seated me right away! Many wonderful items are offered here. I selected the Shrimp & Grits, and they were delightful! I’ll be back soon to work my way through the rest of the menu!
Thank You Photo Guy! We can’t wait to serve you again!
Good wine and beer selection. Friendly service. Gorgeous view of the river.
Our view is the best. Yes, our management team love having the best wines and beers.
Very nice evening out with friends. I ordered the scallops, which were delicious. Attentive host and wait staff. Definitely returning!
Persimmons is always a great experience.... The food is amazing, the staff is engaged and personable... We come to New Bern every year for our anniversary and Persimmons is a regular stop that never fails to deliver....
I didn't get her name, but the live jazz singer during dinner, upstairs, was phenomenal. The food was scrumptious (I had arugula encrusted mahi and my partner had the fried chicken....both got rave reviews); I had the Rossalie mixed drink and it was out of this world. I will definitely be back!
They don’t have a vast gluten-free menu but took every precaution to keep my husband safe. We always stop by Persimmons on the drive back from Atlantic Beach.
Lovely place. Drink service was slow to begin with. Food was very good although I was told there was no gravy for the side dish of mashed potatoes I ordered even though my BF's half fried chicken over mashed potatoes had gravy. We are looking forward to going back to order the delicious looking cheeseburgers that were being served. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our meals.
The menu needs to be update, food wasn’t prepared ver well. Had to return the desert.
Great meal selection, and the live music was fun. One suggested improvement is to pipe the live outdoor music into the inside dining area. My mahi meal was very tasty, though the salt level was very high.
I had some friends in from out of town so I wanted to take them to Persimmons because it is consistently a great place to eat. It has a special feel since it is on the water. They had a band that night and although we didn’t sit outside that is a nice option if you enjoy music. The food is always great and there are lots of choices.
Very nice. Want yo go back soon.
Loved our visit, dinner on the deck, and listening to the band. Will definitely be back on our next visit.
I suspect they had kitchen problems, drinks were weak and bar service very slow, chowder came just after our main course and we asked to have it first. Some meals were cold so they brought out additional but by then the damage was done. The scallops were very good despite being luke warm! Our reservations were for 5 at 8:00, we arrived 45 mins early and were given the option to be seated right away if we choose to eat outside which we did but still didn't eat until 8:15. My guess is not enough personal, everyone was apologetic and tried to be cordial. If we should return to the area in the future I would give them a second try!
The food was amazing. I had never had unicorn fish before and it was awesome. Also get the butter cake dessert! The only thing stopping Persimmons from getting 5 stars was the noise levels. It was difficult to carry on a conversation.
The place is beautiful. The band was terrible. The food was good, but the service was poor and slow. We initially got half of what we ordered and half of someone else's order and then finally after another 30 min we got the rest of our food. They need more staff and to train them better if they are going to charge $25 a plate for an entrée. It took us 30 min after asking to finally get our bill and there were folks who had been waiting an hour for a table that we passed on our way out. one couple sitting outside at a table near us finally moved in and ate at the bar because they could never get anyone to take their order. If the service gets better(management?) this place will be good.
Hush puppy appetizer was tasty, but over cooked; shrimp burger is 5 large crusted shrimp with lettuce, tomato on a bun, tasty, but I was expecting a “patty”...would have liked to have a bag overall worth a visit if you are in the area.
Absolutely Delightful. The honey vinegar russels sprputs and rhe basket of biscuits were warm and fresh.
In all it was an amazing evening with great food, excellent service, and friendly diners. Enjoyed it! Highly recommend the shrimp and grits!
We have eaten here a few times over the last several years, usually with friends.
The hostess seated us quickly, at a great inside table with a view of the water.
The waitress was quick to get us drinks and wine. All were quite good (a bourbon old-fashioned, for example).
The food was really excellent with ONE EXCEPTION. We loved the caprese salad, crisp-battered asparagus, the sirloin steak (perfect!), the strawberry salad. The dessert (strawberry cream puffs; 2 of us ordered them) disappointed; the interior was a “way-too-sweet” spicy strawberry goop, NOT a cream. We recommend that the chef change the interior to a strawberry cream, using real whip cream. (We communicated this to the waitress as well.)
Other than that dessert, this was a perfect meal. We will be back, as we have faith Persimmons will resolve the dessert issue.
Visiting from out of town, my son this would be a great place because he took his fiancée there. Ambiance on the water is awesome, live entertainment was awesome. That’s about where the awesome ends for us though.
Understaffed, our waitress told us halfway through the meal that she had too many tables in her apology for lack of service, forgetting drinks, etc.
My Fish Tacos very good, my wife commented that she loved the grits in the shrimp n grits. Brussels sprouts decent. My son and his fiancée each had the filet. One was ordered medium and was seriously well done. He ordered medium rare and it was Pittsburgh Rare. Straight from the searing station to the plate.
Since we had already been there over an hour, wasn’t going to send stuff back.
Prob worth another try but when you charge $30 for a small filet, you should have cooks on staff that actually know how to cook it,
Very limited menu. We both had the divers scallops. The scallops were cooked to perfection, but the entire dish was so sweet we could hardly eat it. It was like a huge sugar pill. No other taste but sweetness attack...will not return. And they were out of the basic Chardonnay (bottle), so we had to settle for a very mediocre Pinot Grigio (sweet too...). Overall very overpriced for the quality off the cuisine and wine.
while the menu was interesting and inventive, the food was just good, not great. ambience was very nice with water views and clean, modern decor. the waterside deck is dog-friendly, which we really appreciate. service was very good to excellent. overall we felt it was a bit pricey compared with the other good restaurants in New Bern. but all in all we would probably go back, especially if we were entertaining guests, or if we wanted to bring our dog and dine out on the deck.
Wonderful as always
I didn’t realize that they closed at 1500 and reopened at 1700 on the Sunday that me and my family visited. However, they didn’t rush our experience and our waiter was great. The grounds are scenic and great for photos. I would recommend giving them a visit.
The menu offers a wide variety and the food was delicious. The inside of the restaurant was on the noisy side but not so much that one could hear table conversations. The service was OK, but in fairness we were told about 15 minutes after we placed our order that there was a problem in the kitchen. We will return.
Good experience overall but one meal was undercooked and had to be sent back.
Great food, great service, unbeatable ambience, moderate noise level because there was a band playing outside.
Always excellent choices in food. I only wished for a few more seafood choices that day. However, my blackened Mahi was excellent
This is a wonderful restaurant! For the most part, I've had good food. I love the atmosphere and if course waterfront dining is a plus! Service is always friendly and efficient!
There was only one bar tender and he was covered up. We waited 30 minutes to get our drinks. My husband ordered a coke and after waiting longer he was told they did not have any glasses available. My nephew’s steak order was wrong and he was charged for the more expensive steak he did not order. We had family with us who had never been there. It was embarrassing.
Persimmons on the waterfront in New Bern is a special place. This was my second time dining there, and it was as good as I remembered. The menu is full of options, and it’s hard to decide, but our party enjoyed the crab cakes and shrimp and grits. Some of the best I have ever had. The ambience is lovely, and their renovations are complete and look amazing. Service is always prompt, and they offer great suggestions and never rush you.
