Persimmon Ratings and Reviews
We’ve dined at Persimmon a number of times and always had a wonderful experience. The food is delicious and the service impeccable. A special treat is that their Restaurant Week menu was the whole menu, not limited selections like at many other restaurants.
Although we usually go to Persimmon during the week, we had out of town guests and went Saturday night at 7pm. Kudos to Persimmon. Both service and food were excellent. Recommend a booth if you can to keep the noise down. And Tues half price wine night is a treat.
This was our second time here and we were not disappointed. We were the first one’s in the restaurant and were immediately greeted, seated and made to feel welcome. Our server was very attentive. The tasting meal was a good value with more than adequate portions. The weakest part of the meal was the desert which wasn’t bad, just mediocre compared to the rest of the meal. Our overall all impression was excellent and we would definitely go back.
Persimmon is one of our favorite restaurants. I love the Arugula and Fennel salad and the Crab Cake dinner. My husband almost always gets the Duck Confit salad. We've tried a number of their entrees and all are delicious. The service is always friendly but not intrusive. And the drinks delicious (especially the martinis).
All the entrees ordered by the five members of our party were fabulous. The waiter was reluctant to make recommendations of entrees, beyond telling us which were particularly popular, but in fact everything was really tasty. Noise levels were also sufficiently low to allow for ease of conversation.
Persimmon serves consistently good food. The servers are knowledgeable, and most of the dishes are interesting and well prepared. The specials are worth considering, and usually include a fresh fish option. We recently had an excellent rockfish, and the bouillabaisse was memorable.
I have tried the tuna tartare at more than a dozen restaurants in the area and think that Persimmon's is the best. Rather than mashing the tuna and avocado, the kitchen staff cuts the tuna and avocado into one centimeter chunks arranged in two layers, one on top of the other. This not only improves the texture, it brings out the flavor--especially in the tuna. A glass of sauvignon blanc with this dish makes for a very good beginning. I also like the crab sandwich, one which has a large patty of crab that does not have a gooey binder, I am not a fan of the ambiance, but I always request and get a window table so my ambiance is the outside. The service is usually attentive, but not intrusive. On this occasion, my server spent much of his time at the booths at the back of the restaurant and only infrequently looked around the partition that separates the booths from the tables in the front of the restaurant.
This neighborhood bistro has a varied menu with good specials added. Our meals were quite tasty, although the fresh fish special of the day (red snapper) was just a bit overdone. Service was great and friendly, without being too "In-your-face." I would definitely return to Persimmon.
It was one of the best meals I’ve had in along time. We had the sesame crusted tuna and lamb shanks. Both were cooked to perfection and perfect portions. The service was impeccable. The dessert was the icing on the cake. We had the porfitaroles. The pastry usually gets soggy from the ice cream. However, it was firm but light and held out til the last bite! I will be back again!
I love the sunset dining. It's nice to be able to get a 3 course meal with both reasonable portions, and a reasonable price. It's particularly suited when you're going somewhere afterwards (in our case, we were going to the Kennedy Center) and need to eat early and don't want to carry around leftovers.
We both had salads, filet, and the creme brulee, and everything was perfect, but there were plenty of other delicious looking choices on the menu.
Persimmon is truly a neighborhood gem. Try it!
Persimmon continues to be a great neighborhood bar with excellent food, especially the crab cakes. However, the service was uneven on a recent Monday night with less than half the restaurant full. We had to get up and find a server to order dessert. And, couldn’t they add some color to the walls or table cloths to make the interior more pleasing? It isn’t cheap so diners deserve a more complete experience.
