Sad to say that 2 of our party ordered the Catch od the Day and it was not good. Either overcooked or something and all dried out! Terrible. Wish they would have voiced their opinion earlier and we would have sent the platters back! The other 2 diners had delicious food!!
Consistently delicious food and great service. We went twice this month and enjoyed it very much.
Our second time here. Restaurant is tucked away from the center. Good food (i love the way the menu is organized, nothing overwhelming in terms of choice - 3 sections : meat, fish and everything else). The fish boullaibaisse is yum, so flavorful and so were the crabcakes. Portion size is plentiful so we had no dessert.
A little pricey but worth it. Service was good and accommodating (we added an extra person to our reservation which was no problem).
Food was incredible. What a hidden gem!
I have been to Persimmon many times and have always enjoyed the well prepared and attractively presented food as well as the friendly service.
After seeing all the high recommendations, I found the food good, not great. The "ambiance" is tiled floors and wood tables. Food was better then the atmosphere, and perhaps because of a Monday night, the service as only fair given one wait staff.
Food was very good with a few exceptions. The wasabi fried oysters were tasty, but the order had only 2 small oysters. More an hors d'ouvre than an appetizer. But priced like an appetizer! The crab cakes were tasty, but they were not full of lump crab meat like Maryland cakes should be.
Service was phenomenal. Several people ordered dishes to be split in the kitchen. No problem. People wanted their courses in a not normal order. No problem. People wanted a substitute for the side dishes that came with the dish. No problem. And the wait staff got everything right including who got which dish.
The restaurant was noisy from people speaking. Thank goodness there was no music playing.
We will return but will avoid the oysters and crab cakes. Veal chop and rack of lamb were perfect.
GREAT place for a get-together with friends. Three of us had a chance to catch up, eat delicious food (tune, halibut), and take enough time to enjoy the experience.
Convenient to ample parking behind the restaurant, Persimmon is great for an intimate lunch conversation, a birthday celebration (molten chocolate cake to die for), or a chance to eat at an outside table with servers who won't forget you. The lunch menu is extremely affordable for the creative cuisine offered. I loved the Cobb Salad with Blackened Tuna and my friend was very happy with a beet and goat cheese salad. (A closely kept secret is that lobster rolls are always available event when not listed on the menu.)
My review for dinner is not as enthusiastic because the outdoor seating is in full sun on a summer evening and indoors is too loud to enjoy a visit with friends. Price is much higher for dinner. We found out the hard way that what is listed on the website menu is not kept up to date, so use that as a guideline but not as a guarantee. But the available options are always good for the vegetarian in the crowd and largely locally supplied.
Always reliable good and creative fare. A neighborhood gem for sure. We love the place.
It’s around the corner and we love going. It’s always delicious. The service is fabulous and attentive. The menu is great with tons of options. We highly recommend Persimmon, it won’t disappoint:)
Went for a wedding anniversary after hearing great things from friends. We went at 8:30pm on a Friday so tail end of the dinner rush. It's a small restaurant so every seat was taken and it was a bit noisy. Not an evening killer by any means but just know that going in. The service was a little slow at first but the place was packed and in fairness it was picture perfect once we put our order in. The food is great, large portions and very affordable for what it was. The wine list provided great value as well. All in all we were very satisfied with our experience and would recommend for sure.
Service was just okay. Food unmemorable. Tables too close together and noisy dining room.
The service was excellent. Food was great. The ambiance may be compared to that of a diner. Will definitely return for the food.
My daughter’s 32nd Birthday
We were lucky that the dining room wasn't full, so we were able to actually have a conversation. Also, the food and service were excellent.
We did not get good service this time and the menu did not have much for vegetarians. But the menu changes, and the food is consistently excellent. So I will come back again bur without my vegetarian family members. Hoping the service gets back to the standard I've experienced on past visits.
See my Yelp review here! 5 ⭐️’s across the board!
This restaurant was really loud -- impossible to have a conversation at the table without yelling at each other. The wait staff seemed a bit pretentious as well. I would not go there again.
I ordered the fish tacos. They were ok but the chip were stale.
As always, very good food, with excellent service. Easy parking on-street or in the County lot behind the restaurant.
We have been to persimmon many times sometimes alone sometimes with friends and some times at happy hour. One of the things I appreciate about persimmon is that it is very consistent. The kitchen always turns out top-notch dishes. They are consistently made with high-quality ingredients and prepared correctly. The hot food comes hot, the cold food comes cold. The servers are well-trained and skillful and know what to do without being coached. We will continue to come back here for a long time.
Good variety and elegant menu choices. Such a menu led me to believe the ambience would have been that of a white table cloth place whereas it was a bit more like a tavern. The red meat dishes were a bit hit, the rock fish however was just a tad dry for both of us who ordered it. Veggies were perfect.
Persimmon uses very good ingredients and prepares them in ways that preserve the natural flavors. I particularly like the tuna and avocado tartare. It consists of a layer of chunks of tuna on top of a layer of chunks of avocado. A little bit of seaweed completes the dish. I have not found a restaurant in the area that does a better job with this starter. The restaurant also does a very good job with salmon and mussels. I save five star ratings for truly outstanding restaurants. Persimmon is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Montgomery County.
Very good food and service. Quite loud for a Tuesday night. Some drunk middle age women were cursing and taking loudly in my ear throughout the meal. But of course that's not the restaurant's fault. Very good overall.
This place was a lovely choice for a birthday dinner celebration. It is small, bright yet offers an intimate feel. The food is uniquely prepared and the wine list is extensive. In my party two people shared the rack of lamb which was abundant and two other people both had the filet. One was prepared perfectly while the other was prepared as order. Due to this the restaurant not only quickly turned around the meal prepared right the also took it off the bill. WOW! I had the seared ahi Tuna which would have been better if not placed on top of the yummy couscous. Unfortunately it continued to cook and I would have preferred it more rare. Nonetheless it was delicious. I look forward to returning to try other items.
Bar and dining area close together. Too noisy. Would only go back if I was eating early on a weeknight when it was sleeting.
We have been going to Persimmon for many years. We have never had a bad meal or bad experience. It is a “go to” special occasion restaurant for us.
Stan & Judy Stern
Always good food and service.
The food was delicious and healthy. We mostly eat a vegan diet, but sometimes have fish, and we were able to find good options and they adjusted the dishes as requested to leave out cheese, etc. Our server was very knowledgeable and efficient - stopped by at just the right times to check in with us. We often eat at their "sister" restaurants in Cabin John near where we live - Wild Tomato and Sal's - and Persimmon is a good complement to those - similar but slightly more upscale in price and food options.
You should provide espresso and cappuccino coffee!
We had an incredible meal during restaurant week. Ash, our waiter was fantastic, gave solid recommendations and everything was at such a great value. Highly recommend the smoked trout eggrolls and the braised short rib was out of this world! Kudos to the chef! Looking forward to our next visit.
Great as always....
Four ladies went for Restaurant Week. We all ordered different appetizers and entrees and each of us swore her meal was the best. Great value for Restaurant Week. Persimmon also had the greatest number of selections in each category - I know because I checked all the menus of participating restaurants. The only downside was the noise level, but even with that, Persimmon will become a ‘go to’ place for me.
We love this restaurant! Persimmon has been a favorite of ours but we don't eat out very often. Our meal last week was so delicious, and the menu so varied and exciting, that we plan to go back soon.
I have been coming to Persimmon for years and one thing that I love about it is that the quality of the food is high and perfectly prepared and presented. The service is attentive and warm and the ambiance is cozy.
My experience at Persimmon was very enjoyable. The food was good as usual and the place is cozy and comfortable. I highly recommend Persimmon
Quick seating and excellent service all evening. The restaurant week menu was fabulous! As always! Very nice wine selection and interesting and delicious entrees. Persimmon is a Bethesda jewel for dining.
Good food, good service on a busy Restaurant Week evening. Can imagine that it is even better a quieter time. Will hope to try it then also!
This is one of my favorite restaurants - the food and service is always great. I love that it feels like a neighborhood bistro.
