Bring an appetite for great food & wine!
Let's Gather & Eat!
Excellent service and food was amazing...from the empanada appetizers to the special fish of the day entree to the delicious profiteroles for dessert.
Too noisy. Hard to have a conversation
This is our favorite Bethesda restaurant. The fish is especially fresh & delicious.
The service was excellent. It is a lovely restaurant with ample parking nearby. The appetizers - wedge salad and charcuterie trays were great. The desserts were also very good. The entre selections, however, were just not good. I ordered bouillabaisse which was heavy on muscles with other rubbery fish in it. It seemed like they used their muscle broth and added some fish and called it bouillabaisse. My friend had short ribs which were very chewy and the polenta was pasty. Her son ordered roast chicken which was also very dry. We were very disappointed. Not sure what was going this Sunday. We used to love this place.
Very nice neighborhood restaurant
We went for Restaurant Week and the food was very good. Would good back for lunch/dinner to try other items.
The service was extremely slow. Our table was also in an awkward spot in the restaurant. We loved the food though.
We all had the 3 course special. The food was fine dining at its best. The portions Were large particularly given the very reasonable price of dinner. Scallops with a delicious risotto. Tuna with avocado was memorable. Lamb chops superb.
Great meal and great service!
The surroundings don't match the food.
We had a late lunch during Restaurant Week. The food was excellent; We had the trout, citrus scallops, molten chocolate cake and cheesecake. It was late, so there were very few diners there. Our service was friendly and knowledgable, but a little slow - large gaps in between visits - especially when the restaurant is virtually empty. It's been several years since I was last at Persimmon. I remember it a lot nicer. It's dingy - old, dark furniture and decor. They really need to update the surroundings. That's too bad, because the food is great, as is the location.
There is not a better appetizer in Bethesda than the avocado and tuna tartare at Persimmon. The ingredients are cut into large chunks and arranged in two layers. The result is much better flavor than the mash up that is offered at many restaurants in the area. All of the seafood dishes are simply prepared using very good ingredients. The list of wines by the glass is limited, but well chosen and reasonably priced. My only complaint is that the restaurant does not offer espresso as an alternative to the weak regular coffee.
Overall excellent. Sadly our first lunch preference (sea scallops) was unavailable - apparently the chef decided they were spoiled/not able to be served. Alternative: Trout on a bed of veggies + bay scallops was very very good. Desserts were incredible... I'd never had anything like this chocolate martini cake. Service was prompt and efficient. Noise was pleasantly acceptable, although when a party of 8 came in and sat near us, the noise level went up a lot.. as is often the case. We'll be back again.
Everything was superb, especially our hostess Megan.
We went for restaurant week. The value was great! I wouldn’t spend the regular menu prices. The waiter was good, ambience blah, food pretty good.
Food was good overall. However. It took a long time between ordering and actually getting the main course. Same for the dessert. Not sure what caused the delay. Crab cakes good but for $28 I expected better. Apple crisp served Luke warm and should have been served .The restaurant is on the smaller side and charming. Noise level is moderately high though. I would definitely give it another try.
Persimmon is a small and (at least when we were there on a recent Tuesday night) quiet restaurant. The service was good - a little slow to get us our bottle of wine at first but otherwise fine. The food was excellent. My wife had the Lobster Roll which she enjoyed, I had the filet with spinach, mashed potatoes and onion straws which was delicious plate of food. Tuesday was half off bottles of wine which was great as we were able to get a bottle we might not have otherwise ordered. The wine list is good. The food prices were reasonable. There is street parking in front of the restaurant if you are lucky, but there is a parking lot with metered parking right behind the restaurant which is very convenient. I would happily return to Persimmon.
Love Persimmon. The food is great and the people/service are lovely and attentive.
Outstanding, as always. Persimmon is always "the place" for a fine dinner or pleasant lunch. Also a place we typically take out-of-town guests.
Great waiter and always good food w a nice wine list and great cocktails
Excellent range of choices, very friendly service, our favorite choice in Bethesda
We hadn’t been here in years and it exceeded all expectations! The person who greeted us was amazing and so warm. She turned out to be the owner! The service was perfect and the food was so flavorful and delicious. One friend drinks water constantly and his glass was never empty! We had the delicious beet and goat cheese salad, the scallops, and the salmon. All were fantastic. It’s so great to be in Bethesda without any parking issues (free county parking in the back, on weekends). This is a true gem!
Foodie level menu and food flavors. Great service.
Wonderful menu, well prepared imaginative dishes and attentive, but not intrusive, service. Only minus is that the wood floors and booths tend to magnify noise during crowded times. I suggest dining early (lunch and dinner) and enjoying the calm.
Persimmon is always delicious and consistent in great food and service.
Good and creative entrees and attentive servers. The place is looking run-down, however, and could use some noise reducing materials.
We've lived in Bethesda for 26 years and this was our first time at Persimmon. It was wonderful. Food, wine, service: perfect. We'll be back for sure.
Nice local restaurant, good choice for something different
When we said we’d share the wedge salad, it came plated for two. That’s service. It’s why we keep coming back in addition to the food.
Best kept secret in the area
Great consistent food and great drinks. Bartender Lee is a trip.
Persimmon is a neighborhood gem. A small bistro that sweats the details. The wait staff is engaged, knowledgeable and attentive but never intrusive. The food shines. The menu items are always supplemented with specials. I have been three times now and have never been disappointed.
Kudos to the staff at Persimmons (Liz/Hostess and Ash/Waiter on our most recent visit) knowledgeable, friendly, obliging, and dedicated to customer satisfaction. We are creatures of habit and often order the same items. The Antipasto Board of Meats, Cheeses and Chicken Pate is more than enough to split between 2 diners as a single appetizer: sinfully indulgent. Steamed PEI Mussels Provencal Style were delicious; they should use the broth as a sauce in other fish dishes! (Really. Please think about it...) The crab cake is good, although not exceptional for the DC area. Our "Daily Fresh Catch" (red snapper on this visit) with a mélange of shrimp and vegetables is always terrific; regrettably on this visit the snapper was overcooked --- it was whisked away and replaced without complaint (always the sign of a smart kitchen and a fine-dining experience.) Desserts are always interesting, but we were so full, we took the cheesecake with top-notch house made whipped cream home! A solid B+/A on every visit.
We have been coming to Persimmon maybe once every three years for about fifteen years. The food has been consistently excellent, fresh, imaginative, beautifully prepared.
Food and service were excellent. We mentioned to the hostess that we thought the decor was a bit harsh. Could do with the old persimmon warmth and some table cloths. She said they are planning to repaint very soon. I expect they get frequent comments like this from long time fans such as we. They also could use some sound absorbing materials as well.
A/C was very cold. Wrong food delivered - tuna on Nicoise salad instead of salmon. However, food was delicious, service attentive. Deservedly one of the better places to go. Easy parking behind restaurant.
We love our neighborhood restaurant. Food is always excellent. Menu has great variety for all tastes and eating restrictions . Service is always excellent. I can’t say enough about my favorite go to restaurant:)
Consistently delicious food and great service! This is one of our “go to” restaurants for birthdays, anniversaries, etc., and it doesn’t disappoint!
The tuna tartare/avocado starter was the standout on a delicious dinner.
