Bring an appetite for great food & wine!
Let's Gather & Eat!
It’s a regular “go to” for special occasions and never disappoints.
This was our first visit to Persimmon. We were told the food was excellent and crowed very millenial. The latter was not the case but the food was very good. I had the crab cakes with mashed potatoes small place with hard surfaces. All in all I'd go back but as far as price, it's more of an $80-$85/couple food, not $120/couple, including glass of wine.
Strong as usual
Food, Service, Ambience were terrific. The appetizer and main course specials were spectacular. A favorite restaurant of ours for many years!!
Persimmon is still one of our local favorites. The fish of the day was halibut, and it was perfect, as was the sesame crusted tuna. Crab and avocado tartare also beautiful. We had hoped that after 9:00 would be less noisy but it took a while to quiet down. For this review, I have to take it down a notch because the trout spring rolls were not what they used to be. Cocktails were delicious, but they were out of our first choices for wines by the glass. Service was excellent.
Fantastic food and waiter. The lighting is a bit too much but otherwise it was perfect.
My Branzino was delicious. Only complaint was my husband and I split the profiteroles for dessert and the tops were burnt 😕
Lovely lunch restaurant. I had the Bouillabaisse. The others has Cobb Salad, and salmon with greens. Everything was delicious. One of us asked for the frites that came with the mussels because she didn't want mussels. They were spectacular. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - the way they are supposed to be.
Waiter was rushed. Got one order wrong. Had a rude somewhat unfriendly demeanor.
Food was outstanding!
Loud, loud, loud. Spotty service, stark environment. Food was good and good value.
As always, Persimmon and it's staff and food were great! We always enjoy ourselves when we go. I had the salmon w/pesto risotto. Excellent! Highly recommend.
A great neighborhood restaurant that always has good food and great service. They are very accommodating if you want something that isn't on the menu. I had their special - which was 2 small lobster rolls - which were delicious. I continue to go back there with new people.
Amazing as always! Love Persimmon!
Dinner was great. The restaurant looks like it needs an overhaul. Table linens at minimum would be a big improvement. Have always liked Persimmon but they need to step up the decor or they will lose customers.
Persimmon has always been our favorite go to restaurant for special occasions. The food this time was mediocre. But the major problem was the molten chocolate cake that had to be sent back......it was inedible. Tasted terribly salty and no molten chocolate! Was told by the waitress that the chef used salt instead of sugar and they just had thrown them all away. I feel that we at least deserved an apology from the manager. Very disappointing.
Food is always terrific at Persimmon. Service is excellent. Nothing formal or stuffy here. Ambience is not fancy at all; Persimmon is a friendly, casual, neighborhood place with outstanding food. Public parking lot in the rear is super convenient and free on the weekends. We like this restaurant more than any other in Bethesda which has a great many places to eat.
We were somewhat reluctant to try this restaurant again, because a number of years ago, when we went there, it seemed somewhat mediocre. However, we were very pleasantly surprised by how good it was this time. We still would probably only go here for a special occasion, given that the prices are on the high side.
We were there early (6:30) on a Tuesday night, so it was pretty quiet.
We shared the antipasto with a half off bottle of wine to start. Our dinners were lobster rolls and crabcakes. We were too full to order dessert.
Everything was delicious and we will be returning.
A great neighborhood spot with someone for every taste and appetite
1st time at Persimmon to celebrate a birthday. Enjoyed the food from the appetizer to the dessert. Server was very attentive, energetic, friendly and fast.
This is our favorite place for our anniversary and it was wonderful as always. Great service, delicious food and a wonderful experience. We got there early enough for the 3 course menu and it was all as terrific as it always is.
Our waiter Ash was excellent and he made a great martini. Food was awesome.
Excellent service and food was amazing...from the empanada appetizers to the special fish of the day entree to the delicious profiteroles for dessert.
Too noisy. Hard to have a conversation
This is our favorite Bethesda restaurant. The fish is especially fresh & delicious.
The service was excellent. It is a lovely restaurant with ample parking nearby. The appetizers - wedge salad and charcuterie trays were great. The desserts were also very good. The entre selections, however, were just not good. I ordered bouillabaisse which was heavy on muscles with other rubbery fish in it. It seemed like they used their muscle broth and added some fish and called it bouillabaisse. My friend had short ribs which were very chewy and the polenta was pasty. Her son ordered roast chicken which was also very dry. We were very disappointed. Not sure what was going this Sunday. We used to love this place.
Very nice neighborhood restaurant
We went for Restaurant Week and the food was very good. Would good back for lunch/dinner to try other items.
The service was extremely slow. Our table was also in an awkward spot in the restaurant. We loved the food though.
We all had the 3 course special. The food was fine dining at its best. The portions Were large particularly given the very reasonable price of dinner. Scallops with a delicious risotto. Tuna with avocado was memorable. Lamb chops superb.
Great meal and great service!
The surroundings don't match the food.
We had a late lunch during Restaurant Week. The food was excellent; We had the trout, citrus scallops, molten chocolate cake and cheesecake. It was late, so there were very few diners there. Our service was friendly and knowledgable, but a little slow - large gaps in between visits - especially when the restaurant is virtually empty. It's been several years since I was last at Persimmon. I remember it a lot nicer. It's dingy - old, dark furniture and decor. They really need to update the surroundings. That's too bad, because the food is great, as is the location.
There is not a better appetizer in Bethesda than the avocado and tuna tartare at Persimmon. The ingredients are cut into large chunks and arranged in two layers. The result is much better flavor than the mash up that is offered at many restaurants in the area. All of the seafood dishes are simply prepared using very good ingredients. The list of wines by the glass is limited, but well chosen and reasonably priced. My only complaint is that the restaurant does not offer espresso as an alternative to the weak regular coffee.
Overall excellent. Sadly our first lunch preference (sea scallops) was unavailable - apparently the chef decided they were spoiled/not able to be served. Alternative: Trout on a bed of veggies + bay scallops was very very good. Desserts were incredible... I'd never had anything like this chocolate martini cake. Service was prompt and efficient. Noise was pleasantly acceptable, although when a party of 8 came in and sat near us, the noise level went up a lot.. as is often the case. We'll be back again.
Everything was superb, especially our hostess Megan.
We went for restaurant week. The value was great! I wouldn’t spend the regular menu prices. The waiter was good, ambience blah, food pretty good.
Food was good overall. However. It took a long time between ordering and actually getting the main course. Same for the dessert. Not sure what caused the delay. Crab cakes good but for $28 I expected better. Apple crisp served Luke warm and should have been served .The restaurant is on the smaller side and charming. Noise level is moderately high though. I would definitely give it another try.
Persimmon is a small and (at least when we were there on a recent Tuesday night) quiet restaurant. The service was good - a little slow to get us our bottle of wine at first but otherwise fine. The food was excellent. My wife had the Lobster Roll which she enjoyed, I had the filet with spinach, mashed potatoes and onion straws which was delicious plate of food. Tuesday was half off bottles of wine which was great as we were able to get a bottle we might not have otherwise ordered. The wine list is good. The food prices were reasonable. There is street parking in front of the restaurant if you are lucky, but there is a parking lot with metered parking right behind the restaurant which is very convenient. I would happily return to Persimmon.
