Bring an appetite for great food & wine!
Let's Gather & Eat!
This was our first trip to Persimmon. My husband and I saw an article in Bethesda Magazine and decided to dine there. We are so glad that we did! Everything about the experience was 5+ stars! Honestly, it was that good! We wanted to go back to dinner at Persimmon the VERY NEXT NIGHT! LOL ~ but we thought that was a little crazy, so we'll wait a few days before returning and trying other entrees. Fabulous food, vibe, service, and value. Truly ~ the BEST!
This is our favorite Bethesda restaurant. Yes, that's a pretty low bar, but we really like Persimmon especially the simply prepared fish and the short ribs.
Birthday dinner was delicious. Dined outside on a beautiful Saturday night. Halibut was perfectly cooked and crab cakes were perfect. I noted when I made the reservation that my husband was celebrating a birthday but had to remind the restaurant. They also charged us for the dessert....overall wonderful restaurant and we will be back!
Persimmon is consistently fantastic. It’s a neighborhood gem that offers a delicious menu, fabulous cocktails and great service. Phil and his staff are top notch. Love this place!
Just discovered this jewel of a restaurant in my friends neighborhood. If I lived close, I would eat here at least once a week!
Delicious food and very attentive service! Persimmon always comes through.
Great meal and great service!!
My wife and I dine at Persimmon occasionally. The food is always excellent and this visit didn't disappoint. First of all, we like the menu--a number of good choices in appetizers and main courses. We never have a problem in finding something we really enjoy. We shared the fried oyster appetizer and beet/lettuce salad. For the main course I had the filet of halibut special and my wife the mussels meuniere. Add in a glass of wine each and we had two very good meals. The service is very attentive, though maybe not as comfortable for lingerers. My only complaint is the small dining room which can feel a little packed in.
Fabulous! Was such a great find, close to our hosts home. Excellent crab cakes/fabulous lobster rolls (for those that like lobster!
If we return to DC, we'd be back!
Persimmon has consistently excellent food at a fair price. I especially like their rack of lamb, bouillabase and catch of the day.
Persimmon is really a great local restaurant. It has become a friendly and easily accessible local favorite among the many restaurant choices available in Bethesda. Their menu offers a good variety of options and each of the many choices available are well prepared and quite tasty. The servings are generous and satisfying..from a great burger to pasta choices or to a favorite of mine salmon, over orzo. The menu items are fairly priced and very reasonable especially in comparison to some the newer restaurants nearby. Their wait staff are all very friendly and accommodating. The kitchen serves up all orders on a very timely basis. Parking can be a real problem in Bethesda, but the restaurant location which is adjacent to public parking lots and some available street parking easily solves that problem for Persimmon. Their desserts offers are things you don’t find on other menus and each of the ones we have tried are all freshly prepared and quite good. Our neighborhood dining group often chooses Persimmon as our dining choice. We often take out of towners here also for a good meal. The restaurant is quite popular and you will need to make a reservation whether for lunch or dinner. When the restaurant was updated a few years ago the changes made include a choice of seating. There now are very roomy and comfortable booths, also plenty of bar seating and there are several tables in an open space with views of the busy and vibrant Wisconsin Avenue. Because the restaurant has become quite popular and often times can be filled to capacity with diners, the noise level can be a bit boisterous but that is not a deterrent to the value of this sweet spot in the abundance of restaurants now available in Bethesda. The management of this restaurant has obviously has paid detailed attention to that which makes a successful business in what is recently become a very competitive choice of restaurants that are available in Montgomery county and Bethesda in particular.
Great food. Slightly overpriced drinks. Easter Brunch menu was a welcomed change and the food was excellent.
We had excellent service and delicious food. Can’t wait to return soon!
The service was extremely slow and indifferent. We had to ask for bread even though we were sitting with no food for a very long time. The excuse was “the kitchen was backed up.” The waiter made no effort to explain the problem nor did he apologize for the delay. In the end, the restaurant comped the desserts, but the meal was compromised by that time. Will have to think very carefully before deciding to go back.
We both had crab cakes which had absolutely no taste/flavor. The poor food rating was because of this dish. Wouldn’t know what we were eating if we closed our eyes.
We had an anniversary dinner at Persimmon. The food was good and service good. We will go there again and sit at the (small) bar for happy hour
My experience was great. For me the noise level was too high.
Very accommodating to dietary needs and extremely attentive service. Food was great
No matter what else I order, I always start with the tuna tartare. the two chunky layers , one of tuna and one of guacamole retain the natural flavor of each ingredient. A little bit of seaweed adds a nice touch. While I like the way the kitchen prepares mussels, they were disappointing this time, not because of the sauce, which had just the right amount of garlic, but because they were less plump and moist than usual. on this occasion. I hope the restaurant will not offer them on the menu when it has not been able to obtain good ingredients. Another reason to like Persimmon is the large metered parking lot behind the restaurant. I have never failed to find a space. For those who like natural light while eating lunch, the tables by the large windows are great.
Always good and the service is very good. Trout fir appetizer, halibut for main didh and profiteros for dessert.
Great as always. Food is fresh and inventive and service is great. Just wish the sound level could be a little lower.
I had been to Persimmon before with friends and had a positive experience. It was my son’s 21st birthday and I’d hoped it would be a memorable meal. It took a very long time to get our drink orders, apps and had to request bread several times. The waiter was very indifferent to our needs. When it came time to order dessert, the waiter was not around. I will not return again as there are many other restaurants in Bethesda that have superior service and know how to make customers feel welcome.
This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant - a place where you can get a table, share a laugh with friends and have good food. We are always confident that we will have a great experience at Persimmon.
We (and our guests) love this restaurant. Food is not your ordinary fare (it is creative) but is always excellent. Portions are large. Parking lot (meters) is behind the restaurant, so you don't have to suffer the normal Bethesda parking difficulties.
Service is excellent. Nice to have a solid dining option in Bethesda that does not compromise to meet the needs of the chicken fingers crowd.
This food at Persimmon is always excellent in a very nice but casual ambiance -- it a great choice for special occasions, or a casual night out.
My friend and I were hoping for a lunch during which we could catch up on visits. The manager was extremely nice to lower the music. However, we should have taken a booth because a couple tables of very loud women came in and we had a hard time hearing each other over their loud conversations and laughs. This was not the fault of the restaurant.
Service needs to improve Waiters too casual in their service. Friendly, noisy atmosphere. Excellent food with wonderful presentation.
Pristinely fresh and perfectly prepared branzino and that yummy chocolate dessert in a martini glass -- what's not to like?
Persimmon is always a winner! If you haven’t tried the avocado and tuna tartare, you’re missing a great treat, and the rest of the menu is also excellent. A go-to restaurant.
Delicious food beautiful presentation
Unfortunately, gone are the days of tables covered with white table clothes. The food is OK - nothing very exciting but also no bombs. The dining room was half empty around 7:00 pm on a Saturday night. This clearly sends a clear signal.
We were there celebrating an anniversary. The food was excellent as well as the presentation. Our Server was very good and attentive. Would recommend Persimmon to all. It is a very good neighborhood restaurant.
Good food and value. We like it because it’s cozy and quiet, but this time the music was too loud, even after asking to turn it down.
This was our 2nd visit to Persimmon and we went specifically for the sunset dinner which is a pre-fix and you get to choose 1 appetizer, one entree and one dessert. It is a great deal. The tuna avocado appetizer was a nice portion but the tuna had moments of not tasting as fresh as I expected. The mussels and broth were plentiful and delicious but it would have been ideal to have the delicious cheese bread at the table for dipping when we were served the appetizers. The salmon was tasty but the mushrooms and artichokes sidedish was unusual. The artichokes tasted briny like jarred artichokes instead of fresh. The pesto risotto was rich. We also got the jumbo lump crab cakes but the plate only had one crab cake on it although the menu stated "cakes". The cake was tasty and so was the bacon mashed potatoes. While the chocolate molton lava cake was enjoyable, it seemed to have pudding inside instead of melted chocolate. We didn't enjoy the pineapple empanada. It was properly cooked on the outside but the inside was cold and a bit bland and it wasn't until we were almost done that we realized the carmel sauce wasn't served on top. Finally, the service was just okay.
Good lunch experience. Hamburgers were outstanding
Great food, great service, and a nice happy hour! The tuna and the egg rolls were particularly tasty.
Since 2007, Persimmon has been our restaurant for special occasions. Our occasion for going on Saturday was my daughter's 25th birthday, and also to celebrate she and her husband beginning graduate school in the fall. The food is outstanding, the portions are good, the service is impeccable, and attention is paid to every detail. No questions asked about substitutions, which are cheerfully done. The meal can be as leisurely as you want.
It was good to see Phil, who as far as I can tell, has been with Persimmon since the start.
Two complaints: the ambiance is not good because of the noise in a space where too many tables are crammed in, and lack of privacy for the same reason. They should either put in more booths, or spread the tables further apart. Frankly, with as successful as Persimmon seems to be (it is always full whenever we go), they should expand to address these two issues. I'm afraid that as much as we love it, when we want to be able to hear ourselves and prefer to be further away from others, we do go elsewhere. Please fix these two issues!
Ash, our waiter, is especially good. He created a drink (a fruity martini) just for me!
The ambiance could be improved by better and softer lighting. Otherwise food was delicious.
