About Perry's - Embarcadero
Perry’s on the Embarcadero is a sleek waterfront outpost of the Union Street original, following the same combination of all-American favorite fare and comfortable, welcoming service that Perry’s first made a San Francisco hallmark in 1969. The décor is warm – murals reminiscent of the memorabilia made famous on Union Street, combined with exposed brick walls, a wood-burning fireplace and breathtaking views of the Bay and the Bay Bridge.
Perry’s is known today, as much as ever, for its classic American food, its warm personable service and its fun, bustling bar. Perry's traditional yet innovative menu includes a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, pastas, steaks and grilled fresh fish. Perry’s on the Embarcadero is conveniently located in the heart of San Francisco’s bustling financial district, across the street from the Ferry Building, less than a mile from AT&T Park and easy to reach by public transportation from all over the city and the greater Bay Area.

Perry's - Embarcadero Ratings and Reviews
2 adults, 3 boys under 12, 6:00 res. 2 boys order filet to split, waitress brings petite. We ask if she can leave petite and bring another. She "asks" manager and comes back and says manager says No, she must bring regular filet. Over 20 minutes later, 7:15 now, regular filet arrrives underr cooked. Manager makes it right, knows nothing about original ask. Bad Waitress. Manager removes 2 items from bill. Says waitress should have left boys petite originally. Good, smart manager.
Perry's is consistently good American-fare, but the steuart St restaurant is also very comfortable and inviting. We had cocktails (perfect French 75) and a delicious Brutus ceasar with chicken. Shared a brown apple Betty for desert that was so big, even shared we couldn't finish. Going to make this Perry's a monthly ritual.
Not a fancy menu (mostly American food classics) but everything was nicely cooked. My wife had the salmon and I had chicken penne pasta - both very tasty!! Nice bar area and well located in Embarcadero - well worth a visit for an uncomplicated but delicious meal!
The good - The food. I've been here twice and everything has tasted great. I'd definitely recommend the salads, the tomato bisque soup, the grilled salmon and the petrale sole. The sole is among the best I've had in a while. The dessert choices are interesting and tasty. Decent beer selections as well.
The not so good - The service on the most recent visit was very disappointing. We arrived on a Monday night before 6:00. Hardly a peak time for dining, but you wouldn't know it from how long things took. Our appetizers arrived roughly 30 minutes after we ordered them and the entrees came probably another 20 minutes after we finished the appetizers. The worst part was our server. He was friendly and enthusiastic, but judging by his blank stares I'd say we were more familiar with the menu after a five minute glance than he was. Just as the plates from our entree were being cleared from the table he dropped off the check. We got his attention before he got away and asked if we could see a dessert menu. He seemed more overwhelmed than apologetic at that point.
I'll give the server the benefit of the doubt and assume he was relatively new. For all I know it might have been his first night. Even so, as much as we enjoyed the food, it's hard to walk out feeling good about the experience when the service is a let down.
So, I'm 2 for 2 on the food and 1 for 2 on the service. We might give it another try if we're in the neighborhood, but who knows.
UPDATE November 2017:
Had a chance to dine here again and I have no complaints. The food was just as good as the first time, and the service was excellent.
Our server was Bryant. He was knowledgeable, prompt and everything came out the way we ordered it. He graciously accommodated two requests from my wife that would have been met with condescending refusals in other places we've been at. Great experience overall.
The Embarcadero location is always on the top of our list when thinking of a place to bring someone from out of town. The food and drinks are dependable for just about any finicky diner but the icing on the cake is the view of the Bay Bridge from the back patio. There are great picture-taking opportunities for anyone who wants to have photographic memories to take home.
My coworkers and I usually love this place! It feels like the set of Cheers when every place else is closed. But this past Friday we ordered the steak salad and each received 4 tiny nuggets of steak! When usually each fork had a piece of steak. When we complained to the waitress she told us they weighed a set portion per bowl which had never been true before! So we could pay more on top of the $18 to get the amount of steak we used to get? What a rip off! Hopefully it was just for that day....
Food and service were great! Not a huge menu, but the food and portion sizes were great. We had a couple of Perry Burgers, Ribs, Seared Ahi Burger and everyone loved what they had. All reasonably priced as well. Not 5 stars because I had ordered a mixed green salad with grilled chicken and chicken was good, a little dry and I had literally two cherry tomatoes that were cut in half and pinch of pine nuts and the vinaigrette was barely coating the lettuce I almost felt like it came straight from the garden to my plate, no washing. Great atmosphere as well and staff was quite friendly.
We like Perry's - over the years we mostly have gone to Union Street but also to Embarcadero when meeting people downtown or to/from the Ferry. We have gone to the one in Perry's home town (Larkspur) a couple of times but the nature of the old Lark Creek Inn building makes it very noisy - especially in the bar area.
Overall the food is very good, the staffs in all 3 are very customer friendly and are focused on you as the customer. We love their 1/2 priced wine nights too.
I had made a reservation for 7 guests for my bday breakfast but unexpectedly, I ended up having 11 guests with one more arriving late.
I know that large groups are challenging for kitchens but as someone who works in the hospitality industry, i was completely shocked on how they treated us.
The back of the restaurant was totally empty but we were seated up front squashed against another table.
Then my last guest who arrived late was denied food from the breakfast menu because she arrived after 10:30 and the kitchen was "closed" -- even though they were still cooking our food. And she couldn't order from the lunch menu since it wasn't 11:00 yet. I understand about timing and turnover but that was the worst customer service I've ever experienced. All of my guests had to give her food off their plates since she wasn't able to order. Our bill was $250 and we would've spend happily spent more but this wasn't allowed. I would think that an exception could have been made for her -- all she wanted was the lox and bagel plate! This was so frustrating for me as the birthday girl and host!
I was debating between Town's end or Perry's and I regret choosing Perry's for my birthday breakfast.
As a long time Open Table user, I never write poor reviews but I had to share my negative experience since it was so unprofessional and unaccommodating.
Went to Sunday brunch. Orderd Eggs Benedict which were cold. Served with potatoes that were not cooked thoroughly. 😩 Server could have had a little more empathy.
Would not go back and will not recommend. There are soooo many choices in the area...pick any one but Perry's.
I ate at Perry's 3 times last week. The first, breakfast, was only lukewarm. The second, dinner, was served with salad and main course at exactly the same time. The third, breakfast, was very tough French toast. When I asked for more syrup, the waitress brought it out and sat it on the table next to mine. When I asked again several minutes later, she then picked it up and moved it to my table. The atmosphere was nice, location was easy since we were staying at Hotel Griffon, but the food was only mediocre.
