Exceptional food and service!!!! Everything we ate was perfectly prepared and delicious.
Always a good experience. Consistently great food and service. Prix fixe lunch can not be beat.
Grilled octopus was the best this side of Portugal. Braised rabbit cooked to perfection. Interesting and unique list of Greek wines -excellent.
I've been eating at Periyali for more than 20 years. The reason I keep going back is because the high quality of both of the food and the service never flags.
Well, the octopus was fantastic. Everything else was good. But the toddlers running amok in the back area was intolerable. Not a place to go pre-theatre on a Saturday night I guess.
Manager was apologetic, comped us some tasty dessert wine, but yikes.
Will return (later at night though).
Under Philippe's watchful eyes this is our "go to" Greek restaurant and has been even though it's a 30 minute taxi ride for us. We've been doing this for more than 25 years about 4 times/year. Everything is terrific. Dale normally chooses 3 appetizers for 4 of us and then orders a fish dish, last night Halibut, for herself. I always order the same thing.....lamb chops rare. Yes, we've tried other Greek restaurants closer to where we live on the UES but always return to Periyali
One of my favorite Greek restaurants! Warm atmosphere and great food. There is reason why this gem has been here for decades. I celebrate my birthday here every year.
Periyali has been a consistently wonderful experience. I asked for a quite corner and got it
The dips to start were very nice The octopus was perfect as was the lamb shank
It could not have been better
An accommodating, tasty and friendly ambience. Excellent staff serving authentic Greek dishes that have something to please everyone....
The service at Periyali was unfussy but attentive, and the food was similarly high-quality without any pretension. The location itself is a rare New York gem, spacious, airy, and full of natural light. I’d take visitors here without hesitation.
Went for my hubby's Birthday. He loves Greek food. We were not disappointed!
Good food but noisy.
recommend not going on Friday or Saturday night
We were a slightly animated group of 3, which was a little out of place in the quiet, refined Periyali, but the food was amazing and the servers were lovely. I think I have a new favorite spot...but likely in smaller, quieter groups in the future. I wouldn't recommend it for a boisterous group dinner, but definitely not to miss.
Taramosalata, Melitzanosalata, Tzatziki Salad
Souvlaki Kotopoulo (The couscous! So good)
Would order all of them 10 times over.
Very pleasant, good food, and quiet enough for conversation, which is important to me!
Very nice people, excellent fresh ingredients, authentic cuosine.
The service was terrible
This used to be one of our favorite places but nit sure we will ever go back
My go-to place when I want clean, delicious & healthy food. Their Greek salad, grilled octopus & a grilled fish are my idea of a perfect meal! Super friendly and relatively quiet, upscale setting add to the meals enjoyment. Bravo Peryali, don’t ever change!
This restaurant never disappoints, for me it is still the best Greek restaurant in all of NYC.
Slow service, mediocre food
I love Periyali and have been there several times. Unfortunately, the service on this particular day was not good at all. I was dining with a famous performer and was really hoping to get the wonderful treatment I usually get. Frustratingly, I had to get up from my table twice to track down a waiter and a bus boy to take care of us, take our order, clear our table and give us the check. It felt like no one had showed up for work that day. I will be back for sure because the food is wonderful and the space is lovely. Hopefully it was just an off day.
The food was incredible! It always is! Periyali has the best grilled octopus in the city!
Peryali is a gem of neighborhood restaurant. The food is simple Mediterranean offerings: Excellent salads, (Horiatiki salad is a stand out), Greek appetizers such as grilled baby Octopus, fresh fish, and some grilled meets. The service is outstanding. Peryali is a very well managed restaurant, they remember your favorite table even if you live out of town and make it to the restaurant only a few times a year. It is always fun to go there.
Amazing service - Meze plates, octopus and swordfish entries were tremendous
Greek salad was a top 5.
Very interesting and well priced Greek Wine list.
Stay away from the fried calamari It was nothing special
Great for larger parties to share
We are going back
I picked Periyali for a belated celebration of my birthday with 9 family members, all with different tastes and dietary needs. Everyone's preferences were fulfilled. The salmon in a phyllo wrapping was the choice for several of us, including me. I had my first taste of okra, which turned out to be quite flavorful and not at all slimy, which it's reputed to be. The octopus, a signature appetizer, was another new taste treat for me, and the avgolemono chicken soup was the best I've had. The waiter made good recommendations for both red and white wines. And the desserts were a delicious end to a delicious meal. We appreciated the quiet atmosphere and the seating at a large round table where we could all hear each other. An extra guest, who joined us for a before-dinner drink was graciously accommodated. Altogether, Periyali was the right choice for the occasion; it's on my list of all-time favorite restaurants.
Inconsistent service where we had to request menus. Entrees arrived like warm and unremarkable. Did not live up to its high rating.
Is great. It could be less pricey, but in general great experience
Good classic food. A little overpriced, but hey that's new york.
Food was really good. The octopus and the sauce were delicious. Fresh fish.
Elegant Intimate Greek dining.
Excellent food. Attractive.
Have dined there many times..
Expensve,but worth it for
a special Occasion.
Periyali consistently masters the art of simply, yet expertly prepared, ultra fresh and delicious food. The scrumptious food, very attentive waitstaff and pleasant atmosphere elevates Periyali to one of NYC’s best restaurants. Nestled in an ethereal space in the Flatiron, Periyali offers authentic Greek cuisine served by an expert waitstaff. (MAC, the waiter, is an exceptional, accommodating, gracious, attentive and warm professional. HE makes a delicious meal absolutely perfect).
The grilled octopus is cooked to perfection with a scrumptious lemony sauce. It is notably delicious and the best we have ever had.... anywhere. The Greek salad and predominantly vegetarian Greek dips offered as appetizers are fresh and so tasty. The fava bean dip is our favorite, with its super fresh, lemony smoothness. The kebabs (chicken or filet mignon), moussaka, and lamb chops are all so very good. The composed entrees are accompanied by a vegetable (string beans, horta) and potatoes or rice etc., all very well prepared. The fish options are so fresh and simply, yet expertly, prepared. If the bass special is available, get it, it is moist, flavorful and delectable. Leave room for a strong, rich cup of Greek coffee to end your lovely dining experience.
Whether you are a meat lover, pescatarian, or vegetarian, Periyali’s offerings will meet your dietary preferences and exceed even the highest of expectations. Periyali is a fantastic restaurant and should be on your NYC restaurant bucket list.
The food was excellent. The service was equally as good. Just a lovely overall meal.
Everything was wonderful except the restaurant was full of really strong-smelling stargazer lilies. It ruined the experience. One guest was allergic; another hot a terrible headache - and this despite changing tables. I heard another table commenting about it as well. If I go back, I will call first and make sure they don’t do that again. It really ruined our night, and I believe others in the restaurant felt the same way. In addition to making us all uncomfortable...what a distraction from their wonderful food.
Great food and service. Always a good time at this restaurant.
Periyali always offers us a special experience. The food is authentically Greek and always delicious. The service is wonderful.
Very solid meal with two relatively small issues: terrible muzak soundtrack, and our waiter forgot one of our side dishes. Otherwise everything was lovely; one of the best Greek spots on NYC for sure.
As usual service , food and drinks were perfect.
Service was terrible. Waiter barely looked at me, mumbled and didn't seem to care about the menu.
No water refilled
Entree came while eating appetizer and insisted on giving it to me even though there was no room on the table.
Waiter was absolutely lovely and helpful.
I was served TWO glasses with lipstick on it...
We were there the last evening of restaurant week and chose that menu. The octopus was wonderful as were the lamb chops although I suspect they downsize the portions on the restaurant week menu as the photos I viewed on yelp were of larger portions on the octopus for sure. Two lovely lamb chops were delicious but again, I suspect at full price there would be more. The moussaka was a bit disappointing.
They do have a regular prefix menu at the same $42; no lamb and an $8.00 supplement on the octopus so I guess it was a good deal overall.
Service was efficient but a bit stiff.
I would probably return on a restaurant week menu but not on the regular menus.
